DRUNKEN SAILOR - VoicePlay (acapella) ft Jose Rosario Jr. (REACTION) SO MUCH FUN!! 

This is a great one! Always a joy to set a-sail with Jose Rosario Jr! And I love the bridge that Geoff wrote for this! But don't forget to leave the CC on! They tend to put in interesting comments and descriptions of the music.

I suspect forgetting it's all vocals may be fairly common, it happens to me frequently. The BTS for this song is hilarious.

I loved their singing. I even loved their dancing. I had a great laugh at them when they made fun of themselves, but I almost lost it when I saw Cesar twerking in the background of the dance scene. LOL. So good!

This was a fun one, done after a few of their more serious works. They just wanted a fun video. This song has so many versions created over the years, and not all of them are "family friendly" either. 😊

The drunken sailor is a past member Matthew (Bucky) Buckner. He is in a couple of their shorts. He also did Geoffs' choreography for his Monster Mash video.

This is the most recent! Geoff's tribute to Alan Rickman's Robin Hood movie is echoed in the line "Gonna carve his heart out." (in spite of only having a wooden spoon). Eli put on his best British accent and said "And make him listen to VoicePlay while we do it." They had a ball doing this, so many changes of tempo, time signatures, etc. Glad you were here to let us look over your shoulder.

Such a fun song. Apparently this is a song that they sing sometimes in camps making up new lyrics as you suggested. I had never really paid attention to the lyrics other than “ what do you do with a drunken sailor” until college when my roommate provided some very suggestive lyrics😱. So when I heard they were doing this I was a little concerned. I was relieved that there are traditional lyrics and they used those🤣. It was nice to see Jose return as the captain trying to keep his unruly crew in some sort of order. Geoff wrote the bridge which really provided a nice change of pace. When we all complained about the creepy doll, Geoff told us that “ her name is Clara and she has feelings!” From what I’ve found online, the captains daughter was a reference to the cat of Ninetails that was used to punish drunken sailors. And put to bed is because they passed out. The scupper comment refers to dousing the sailor in bilge water. For such a fun song it’s got some pretty icky references if you look them up. When you watch again, watch Eli while Layne is playing with his toys. I believe that the whale and the boat are a reference to the Wellerman which they put out as a mini not too long before. That would explain Eli’s frantic head shaking and desolation when the whale 🐋 ⛴️🐳 finally catches up . I had watched this a number of times trying to concentrate on each of the characters before I was finally able to focus on Eli. His expressions and his reactions in this are easily overlooked but they add a lot. It’s just that everybody else is so over-the-top crazy that I kept getting distracted!

Their Patreon is fun, but I think it is really hard on the reactors among us to keep themselves from watching all the videos before they actually get to RU-vid. I'm not sure I would have the self-discipline needed! This one was a real bop! I cannot play this without dancing in my seat. It came the month after they did "Creep" and cheered us all up. In between, they did a 'biggie' (same vertical format as a 'short', but much longer) of "Wellerman". There are new lyrics in this one, but not on the verses. Those already existed. Geoff wrote a bridge that started with José singing about 'Old Souls' and ended when he called Eli a 'monster'. It is after all, a rather repetitive song and it needed something to break it up better. Absolutely LOVE Bucky (the Drunken Sailor)'s dancing. Those flappy arms! Perfect drunk dancing! Next Halloween, when you hopefully will get around to Geoff's "Monster Mash", just know that the 'dance moves' in it were choreo'd by Bucky.

Their patreon is so worth it. I love the behind the scenes and monthly chats.

Oh, they added! Often when a song is repetitive, Geoff writes a bridge to add interest. The one he put into Golden Hour is my favorite part of the song. He’s also done it some on his solo channel.

Did they add lyrics? Actually, yes. Geoff wrote the bridge...starting with "all souls aboard..." through Jose's monster comment.

Yes we all can laugh at this song now, but if you think back when this song was originally written. One person could mean be the difference between life and death. So a drunk sailor was a major danger for everyone. So the song has gone from a warning of what might happen to what crazy prank can we come up with, without getting in trouble . That said this was hilarious to watch. 😊

The souls of all bit is all geoffs lyrics, he writes fantastic lyrics, he roes the same in golden hour. Poor old ele is having a bad time, drink nicked and obviously has bad ptsd around a whale and long boat.
