ℹ️ About the Episode: One of the most rewarding aspects of traveling by RV is that you meet great people along the way. When we were in Auburn, AL, earlier this year, Ronnie & Tera (with Airstream Nuts & Bolts) invited us to a wine-paring dinner at Lucy's. Mark Pisoni with Pisoni Family Vineyards was also there, sharing his amazing wines. He captivated us with the story of how his grandmother secretly gave his dad the money to keep looking for water in the hills of Big Sur to grow their grapes. We remembered the story vividly, and when we were near Big Sur on this trip, we wondered if Mark was around so we could share his vineyard with the KYD Community. He graciously said yes and invited us to his property, where we met another RV couple that also inquired about stopping by after tasting Pisoni wine the day before at lunch. (Yes, it's that's good!) In this episode, we start at the Pisoni Family Vineyard and then travel along Highway 1 to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. We only forgot one crucial resource to complete our dry camping experience!

I am 46 years old, married with two children (15,10). I’m realistically 20 years away from retirement and live vicariously through your videos. I am so unbelievably jealous of the life you live. I understand that these videos are the highlight reels, but still. Sometimes I want to turn off the video and not watch because I know that what you do isn’t a reality for me right now in life, and that I only get a few days every year to do it. The drive, setting up the trailer, the unknown, it’s all part of the experience that I love. I just really hope and pray that my body doesn’t fail me before I reach that part of my life and that one day I’ll too get to do what I watch here. Please don’t stop, continue onward my friends. Well done!

Hi Jerry, we were in that exact spot. Ready to go, but didn't want to wait 20 years. That's where the whole "start small, start now" came from. Without preaching, we've added books to our Amazon library that truly made making a change possible. You might like some of the books while your prepare. www.amazon.com/shop/keepyourdaydream/list/3SPG741CXFX8S?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d

I'm in the same situation but only about 8 years away. I do RV currently with a 40' toy hauler. We just can't do as much because of work. I work in a factory but we make the most of the summers here in Iowa. We "camp" about 70 days a year and I go into work. I can't wait till we can hit the road and have our own adventures.

The Pisoni vineyards were stunningly beautiful, and the care and precision with which they prune and grow their grapes, bring in the pollinators and good insects - just wow! I don't know if all vineyards do this, but Pisoni definitely knows what they're doing. That view from Nepenthe was absolutely breathtaking. Great video today and can't wait to see your upcoming video in Hawaii with Carson. That should be lots of fun.

While not my story, it was from my brother. He and his wife RV full time. They had been in California for several months and were heading to Reno, NV. He said it was the fastest he went from absolute glee to deep despair. Near the NV border, he found Diesel for approx $5.75/gal which was huge drop from the $7.75+/gal prices he had been paying for many weeks. That was the glee part, when he filed up his 150 gal tanks. the despair came when he drove another approx 5 miles and just over the NV border, found diesel for $3.25/gal.

We were camping in a no hook ups site that was next to the drinking water tap & we ran out of water because we underestimated our needs. We have a 100’ fresh water hose so we hooked it up and it was 5’ short! We bought another length and now we have 159’ of hoses😂. So the 5 gal lug brought back unfold memories-it was a scorching day with no shade. At another campground we (read me) were able to snake the 100’ hose through the underbrush to the tap.

Wow, you’re making us homesick. Our home is in the Monterey Bay Area but have been full time for 7 years. Thanks for a tour of the vineyard and the wonderful story behind their business. The Salinas valley not only grows produce for the entire country but has become a great region for vineyards and wineries. The hills along the coast in the spring are a vibrant green and there’s not a lot of fog yet, making the ride from Carmel to Big Sur absolutely stunning. So glad you got to explore this area a little. There’s is also a dog beach in Carmel. The only one around for miles. I could go on but you’ll just have to come back and spend more time exploring. The one bummer is, not much for camping around Monterey Bay. Cheers!

Great video! It has been interesting that my wife has finally joined the team and watches your videos with me each Sunday night. We have been dry campers for almost all of our camping. When we sold our tent-trailer we were asked if the water system worked. I had to honestly reply, "I don't know. I've never used it". When we upgraded to a Travel Trailer we learned the processes of using the water system and going to Dump Stations. This summer we arrived at a campground to discover that they had a boil-water alert and we chose NOT to fill our Fresh Water Tank. This was not the first time that this has happened, but previously we'd always be able to find a clean water source and fill our tanks. However, this time, we were stuck! Thank goodness we had some bottled water on board, but we had to boil water for dishes and cooking. Since then we have filled up our Fresh Water Tank and Portable Jugs before departing each campground, to ensure we have water at the next campground. So, this week we will fill up with water at home, before heading of for a few nights in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario. Looking forward to some Fallish camping.

I loved watching this episode as I just got back last night from my PCH road trip! I flew into San Francisco, spent the first night in Redwood City, 2nd night with my Aunt NeeNee in Santa Cruz, night 3 in Monterey and drove the Pebble Beach 17 Mile drive the next morning as well as driving over the Bixby Bridge, coffee and a donut in Carmel then on to Morro Bay and spent night 4 in Ojai. Next stretch was Ventura where I went to the botanical gardens and the pier for the best fish taco then to Malibu and through LA to Orange County where on night 7 I saw Toad The Wet Sprocket open for Counting Crows. What a week! Much of it inspired by your travels ❤

You guys need a water 💧 bladder in case you forget to fill the trailer. Just keep it rolled up in a small package and take the truck to grab water up to 60 gallons. Just set the bikes out at camp and make some temporary room for it, then use the trailer siphon option to pump it into your tank. That's how we do it with our Reflection. Juat a thought. You may have already thought about it and have your reasons not to. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻

Air tags get their location from another apple device. In the case of a drone, we're usually remote and I'd be the closest device to ping from. Wouldn't not have worked in the vineyard. The last location would have been my truck when it was next to my phone.
