Day 1 of the repair. Got the area prepped and the base down, ready to start the main build. Few tips & tricks shared along the way! #drystonewall #stonework #build
I didn't realise how little I knew about 'dry-stone walling' until I watched this upload! Thank you Josh, for me, one of the best you have done in terms of tuition, just excellent. BTW, love the music at about 23 minutes!
Fantastic, one of hardest, dirtiest, gratifying work ive ever done,I spent year and half rebuilding thousands of feet of walls, had one helper,Fantastic Work
What do you do when you blow your lower back out? This just happened to me. I stacked 3 tons of rocks then a medium sized rock took me out. Any tips for healing?
I just bought a house with this style wall and I don't have a clue nor the money to hire someone. You I believe you're going to be a life saver because I have to do the exact thing you're doing here!
Greetings from the US and thanks for a great tutorial and commentary. Love that you showed your work, just like the teacher asks for in math (maths) class. : ) About 10 years ago we hired a landscaper to install a couple of short retaining walls to terrace a slope and divert water away from the house. It looked great, compared to the old slope, but even then I could see that all the dry stacked rocks weren't 100% tight -- but I didn't know any better. I'm gearing up to do repairs to fix spots where the wall has sunk back against the slope. Question: by "hearting" do you mean sufficient rough rubble between the rocks and the native soil?
Josh, you've inspired me to repair my own dry stone retaining wall, which is buckling from roots too! Only problem is its on a slight slope from left to right. Should I start my base at the low end of the grade and work my way up, or start from the high end?
Yes I would start from the lowest end. It will help to keep the courses level but just try not to use up all the big stones down one end 👍 Thanks for watching!
@@J.HarveyStonework well we have an extremely old civil war dry stone wall and have already killed 3 rattlesnakes in 3 weeks!! They were pregnant too!! Trying to figure out on what to do and how to keep them away? Our walls are completely clean nothing around them. Any advice
