@@gertleroy indeed, I’m more of a free diver spear fishing type of guy but your techniques will definitely help me out, what I’m doing now is holding my breath in the pool for 1:15 min then slowly transitioning still holding me breath to dynamic apnea and I do swim underwater all around the pool ( I would say another 20 meters ) and repeat .. my max holding breath with 2-3 contractions is 3:15 min .. as long as I keep it above 3 minutes I can spear fish in -70 -80 feet .. the ideal would be -65 feet .. I want to feel comfortable.. thanks

Hi man, nice video, but did you mentioned the safety measures?? Like avoid walking near glass, near streets, so in case of bo, falling will not be so harmful, even walking on sand it shouldn't be done alone, so we can avoid our face getting down in water in case we loose our conscious

@odoacredacalcutta5085

a way to do this may be walking with some weight the first 10 metres, than drop half of it at 20, and the remaining at 30. and then while going back picking them up again. problem with this kind of training is that you can't really practice equalization, which, for me, is the hardest part, in term of energy consuming.
@gertleroy
@gertleroy 3 года назад
nice add! true about the EQ, but also not true! EQ is not just about the technique. EQ is about everything. Feeling confident, dealing with CO2 etc. This simulation WILL HELP YOU for EQ as well, in an indirect way.

Great explanation on how to mimic an 30m dive as I don't have a training partner and have been limited to cardio hill walking and doing statics. Having said that, do you have any sort of dry land training tips to mimic the increased pressures at depth? I'm not comfortable with even doing negative pressure dives at the local pool by myself as the lifeguards feel uneasy with any sort of breath hold/not moving training in the local pools in my city. Any recommendations on this?
@gertleroy
@gertleroy 2 года назад
advanced freedivers do empty lung statics on dry land. you can try that but go easy. start with exhaling first a little bit. then on the next breathhold exhale a little more. that's how you mimic pressure at depth. but be aware it's mentally never the same as actual diving. Anxiety of going deep you can't mimic.

aimbto be neutrally buoyant at 10m. that's means at 12m you will go down but just very slow.

@@CurrentlyFishing it depends on your momentum. Thats why deep freedivers sometimes give an extra push right before the freefall to initiate a good momentum, even with less weight.

question ; all my life l heard that breath holding out of the water for training purposes was voiding the results because of various reasons , what is your take on this ? ps; great training exercise ,can t wait to try it ;)
@gertleroy
@gertleroy Год назад
thank you ! the discussion is (as always) a bit more complicated than just a simple statement. First of all the distinction in training methods (with certain results) is not in the fact whether this is done in or out of the water. The main determining factor is whether you move or not. STATIC apnea (in or out) of the water is like a discipline on itself, and yes you could say it doesnt really have much leverage towards diving performance. But than again that is very much debatable, because any kind of breathholding training can help you becoming a better freediver, even if it was just to create more confidence. The best training methods for freediving however are the breathholds during which you move, cause when you move you burn energy just like in a dive. Therefore dynamic apnea in a pool is a good training for deep diving. Also apnea walks when you don't have a pool available. As long as you move :-)

Gert, lungs will be 33% smaller at 20m. However, I still have the same amount of air in lungs comming from surface. Then why its so hard holding breath under water? Is it beacuase of generated co2?
@gertleroy
@gertleroy 2 года назад
At 20m there is 3 bar. So your lungs are 33% of their original size, which means 66% smaller. When you ascend, the lungs expand again and when reaching the surface they go back to their original size. It is harder for you to hold breath underwater because you are not relaxed. Learn proper technique and relaxing techniques. Peace 🙏

My first ocean (scuba) dive was 36 meters, a shipwreck called Thunderbolt in Marathon Fl. 1986. Yesterday I did a little research and learned a spear fisher/free diver from making too many dives so close together. Is there safe number of consecutive dives or a recommended number for different depths?
@gertleroy
@gertleroy 3 года назад
for freediving you can do as many shallow dives as you want. when you get tired you stop. no problem. but when you start doing competitive freediving let's say deeper than 50m you have to limit the number of dives. an experienced diver could do 2x50m but anything deeper it's best done only once per session. (your body won't allow you anyway to repeat those dives)

You think if I can do this exercise on a negative breath hold you think I could dive 30m in water?
@gertleroy
@gertleroy 2 года назад
There is no such thing as a negative breathhold. And no, this exercise is a simulation to visualize the different steps, but nothing compares to a dive itself. Equalization is almost always the limiting factor. ✌️

Hi gert. How about dry frc static tables?
@gertleroy
@gertleroy 3 года назад
FRC breathholding tables are considered o2 training. Beginners to intermediate need Co2 training, not so much o2 training + I would not recommend FRC breathholding to beginners. Just keep things simple: full lungs and focus on relaxation. That will yield way more result then anything else.
@kanaka108
@kanaka108 3 года назад
Yes but what about the pressure? How to simulate this. And what about the conpensation also?
@gertleroy
@gertleroy 3 года назад
This exercise is a way to train your mind and go through the whole process of the dive. Obviously it's not a dive itself. For a 30m dive the pressure is a mental thing. You don't need to adapt physically. People think you have, but that ain't true. It's all about thr mind. If you are relax and confident, you won't feel any pressure. Focus on the skill of relaxation. For compensation there are certain ways to train it dry. I might make a video about that some day. The goal of this video is a mental walk through a 30m dive. Cheers

I don't mean that seriously but as you know many people have equalizing problems as I had to. I think it is the main problem to reach 30m for beginners. I know what you mean. I've grown up to this. Real freediving starts when you don't need to think about anything. When you've felt this peace once then you want more and more. Scuba diving didn't touch me so much. Peace :)
