How to clean the sensor (at least one of them), and the filter in a LG dryer. Need a philips screw driver and a flashlight for that. Have fun! Don't forget to comment, rate and subscribe! Song name: Spring Colour by Cospe
You are the man! I just fix my LG dryer with that simple fix. They wanted to charge me $125 for a service call even though I bought a 10 year warranty. We were going to buy a new dryer but the sale was just over yesterday. You saved me several hundred dollars. God bless
The best piece of advice from a single girl diy: I take before pictures and a picture of each step so when I reassemble the appliance, I always have a reference of what it should look like step by step.
Welp, I was just about to take the whole front of the dryer off to do this before I came across this video. It saved me at least an hour of work for sure! I'm not really sure how much difference anyone will see by just cleaning the moisture sensor stainless rods, unless there's visible evidence that, as the OP stated, there's something like lint or hair, etc. between them. In my case it was evident that the two electrical plugs at the rear and the spades that fit into them were solidly packed with lint in such a way as to short the stainless rods out. One can imagine this lint absorbing the humid air as the dryer cycle goes on in time and then causing erroneous measurements to the controller. I have cleaned mine out and the dryer is working like new again. Kudos to the OP.
It was a very helpful video. My husbands parkinsons makes it impossible to do anything like this. I had to work on it myself. I cleaned out lint around the area of the prong plug as much as I could the screws were a bit difficult to line up but after my stopping for a brake I decided to put side screws in first the bottom last. That allowed me to line up the screws better. I am 69 and pretty thankful to try this for myself
2:58 The problem is often a build-up of lint at the two connectors which shorts out the sensor even when the filter is clean and the path from the filter to the exhaust port on the wall is also clear. Carefully pull the two connectors and clean away *ALL* lint build-up, then re-install. If that fails, then you need to clean the two metal bars which act as the moisture sensor with isopropyl alcohol. You can test the effectiveness of your cleaning by doing a resistance test with your multimeter before and after cleaning. Finally, don’t try to start the dryer with any wet clothes touching the sensor. Model DLEX7177SM
Glad I found this!!! Your solution worked perfectly, even for a septuagenarian with two left thumbs!! Thanks much, my wife thinks I'm a genius, thanks to you!!
Thanks for this video! One question you should answer is what to use to clean the sensor but your video is extremely easy to follow! Going to make the wife happy in a few minutes!
Thank you. This was really helpful to replace the moisture sensor in the most sensible and easiest manner. Very thoughtful video with clear instruction & above all without any unnecessary removal of the panels & parts.
So I had my dryer for 6 years and the filter no longer would sit flush. I watched your video and pulled out years of lent. I couldn’t have done it without your video. I don’t have a dad I can call so thanks for filling that void.
Thanks for the great video! The in-tub shots gave me a clear picture of where the mounting screws are located. Removal of the assembly made it much easier to clean out the difficult to reach locations.
I’ve tried all of this. Power cycles. Child lock. Still nothing. Check Filter blinks when I power on and when I attempt to start a cycle, the timer just blinks. If anyone has an alternative method or opinion or assessment, I’d appreciate any advice. As for the video: I think it’s very detailed and I appreciate how concise you were. Everyone should know how to wipe something off.
Mr. mygiguser Thank you so much for your help with the video I was freaking out may have to buy a new dryer but I did exactly what you video says and sure enough right were the sensor is located it was missing a screw that holds the sensor put a new one in and guess what !! it worked, again thank you for the video ...
My issue was that when it was put together the alignment pin on the right side of the main trap unit was not put in properly. The only way I was able to get it to like up was to loosley screw the sensor part in then put the main assembly in. Once I got it realigned it was hard to get the screw to go in as it had never gone in correctly. Once it was all in it solved two issues. The door popping open and clothes getting caught on the trap assembly. Thanks for the Video.
He is teaching you how to take it apart and where to clean in case you need to clean yours, then how to put it all back together again. Its not like his is dirty. This is a how to video. He probs doesnt let his dryer get so dirty to where it will stop working lol
Thanks for the video. Much appreciated. I didn't know you could remove the filter assembly to clean down in that hole. I was able to remove a little extra build up. However, after cleaning the sensor the dryer still tends the "dryest" sensor setting with clothes that are damp. Would you recommend that I buy and replace the sensor? Or do you think there could be something else going on? Hot air blows out of the tube and I can just do a little extra dry time on timed dry... but if I forget, the clothes will get musty by the next day. I'd rather avoid that altogether.
Cool! I like the music! I just did this job. Cleaned out 10 years worth of overflow lint. The CL alert keeps showing when I turn on the dryer. The lint trap has a crack. I will try to switch the lint trap before I pay an arm/leg for repair.
Love the vid and music. Also about RU-vid music library. Nice technique. Took it apart to clean the filter and exhaust tube. Did not know about sensor. Thanks
Can you tell me what size screws are being used? I had to order all new parts because mine were ripped from the dryer. However, the parts did not come with screws. Thanks in advance!
Thanks for this! I just pulled out a bunch of lint from the catch and also hair from the sensor bar. Drying clothes now. Hope this works - my wife has been going nuts for a whole year. We even had warranty support come out last year and they didn't even do this.
@@mygiguser , That's the issue I have. I have a very low opinion of the engineering of LG dryers. Apparently there is none. They don't know what they are doing, and don't conduct any product research., or accept feedback from customers. I know a better moisture sensor can be designed. These two strips are very ineffective. The dryers look good on the show room floor, but that's were it ends. They are not good clothes dryers.
Hey there, great video! We have a 3 year old LG Sensor Dryer and I've had to clean under the filter (as per your video) due to clogging every couple of months since it was brand new. Are we doing something wrong during the drying process? Or is this a design flaw? Thanks.
Question: ive removed the 3 screws (accidentally the 4th one but I put it back), but the casing is hard to remove still (compared to the video) any tips to not force it to detached (just afraid that if I apply too much force ill snap something)
I have problems with my dryer, is the same model, but when is blinking the signal, also sound alarm(beeping) in the same time and there aren't any obstruction inside
Hi there, Could you please give me an idea what size Screw Driver a 10 year old Maytag Max with Steam would use for that lint cover? Can't afford a service call, but I can buy the right Screw Driver *with Magnet so I don't loose the screws with a little help! Thanks so much!!!!!
Or, just pull out the filter, as usual and clean it (You do this after every load already, right?!) and blast the whole area with high pressure air. Done. 👏
ckeilah oh yes, now in this case a string got stuck underneath both contact pads, that was interfering with the sensor reading. And the dryer turned off too early.
He is not in any way attempting to show the normal procedure for cleaning lint between dryer loads. It's pretty obvious that he is showing how to get to the sensor in case it also needs to be cleaned. The fact that you cannot imagine any reason why you would have to take it apart like this tells me you've probably never repaired anything in your life
Stop using fabric softener. It coats the 2 sensors. Use a little alcohol on them to get rid of the coating. If that don't work use a little sand paper.
I thought when that light came on, it meant you need to clean out your dryer ducks also they go outside to the house. It could be a fire hazard. I guess if your light went off after you at least clean that part than you know you’re in the clear but people should be aware that it could be a clog in the deeper dryer vents from outside
The blinking light that tells you to clean your filter. Some people haven't been able to use their dryer because of that. Holding down the button resets it and allows you to use your dryer.
@@JamesSmith-ds9yc Well I cleaned the entire system and got with LG troubleshooting and they ran me through the same checks with no new results . I'm changing out the heating element today so I hope it works . It is 20 years old so no big loss !!
@@mygiguser My Samsung dryer has been beeping almost constantly during the drying cycles, I thought maybe it was a warning for this. I have no idea what to do but I will check this first.
Is it running at all? Or is it just not heating? If it runs but no heat it can be a thermostat, thermistor, flame sensor and igniter or even a gas valve assembly (least likely). If not any of the above then the only thing left is electric current if it's electric and the control board last after you checked everything else. If it doesn't run at all check the door switch or control board.
@Crem La I found out it was worse actually. The board shorted somehow and the part is no longer available because the product was discontinued. So I got a 3 month old dryer I can't fix. Just shows not to go cheap and buy premium for quality.
@@mygiguser Overall it was a very helpful video. I did not realize that I could unscrew the filter thing. By doing so, it gave me enough room to clear the obstruction. A big THANK YOU!!!
Curious how people have 'cleaned' the moisture sensors? Ultra fine steel wool? Wipe them with rubbing alcohol? Or do folks just replace them because they are so cheap? Would love some feedback.
B Muldoon what are those sensors made of? Just two stainless steel contacts? You just remove the dirt, dust between them without destroying the plastic in between the contacts. Any chemical could cause trouble.
This sensor doesn't work at all well even on brand new LG dryer. I'm forced to just used "Timed Dry" to get my clothes actually dry. Much of the control system on an LG dryer is bogus.
@@mygiguser I said it doesn't work "well" meaning some of the clothes are still damp when the machine shuts off. I believe this system is dependent on the clothes actually rubbing on the sensors. I'm going to test mine by taping a damp cloth over the two strips.
OUrs does not have those center screws and yet it will not come out with the other four removed. I've taken cars and appliances apart my whole life, this thing has me stumped.
