I had to replace both the rear drum bearing and the heating element. When I got it apart, the heating element was broken too. Now everything is back together. My wife talks about getting a new dryer. I have to say though, I like how these dryers are easy to repair and isn’t full of computer and electronic crap.

The new big bearing plate I installed today, 12/16/2017, came with machine threaded screws and the plate was pre-threaded. Things have changed a little and any new viewer should look at their new parts. Don’t ruin the new plate by trying to use the old screws or by making new threads. The advice given in the video was great advice when it was made but the new parts are different. Look at the new parts and be careful to use the new machine threaded screws and the pre-threaded holes in the plate. Many thanks for this wonderful video.

This man is a friggin genius at teaching. I’m 62 years old and have had to repair my own appliances while raising my kids. He didn’t even have to disconnect any wires! I literally just watched another manufacturers video that had us taking the top off entirely and disconnecting wires and reaching in from a back panel to release the belt. Thank you sir!

I just want to give a BIG THANK YOU for posting this video. My dryer wasn't drying properly so I figured the vent was clogged. I cleaned out my exhaust vent but it didn't seem dirty. I noticed that under my lint trap it looked clogged but I couldn't reach it with my vacuum. This video taught me how to remove the front off my dyer to access the place where I couldn't reach previously! I spent an hour searching for how to do this! THANK YOU AGAIN!!

ok..my dryer started making noise the longer it ran....seemed to be coming from the back of the machine. It was still drying fine...but he noise concerned me. And as a single woman on a limited budget I thought I would see if I could fix my dryer myself....I found several videos on dryer repair then found this one for my exact dryer! Amazing Video! So I go in to tackle the job alone....got the bearing stuff out and ran to Lowes to get the part...to find out they don't carry the parts! I had to order it online! (so be sure you don't have wet laundry in the washer cause you will have to take it to a friends house to dry while you wait a couple days for the part) :) So I got the part and put it back together. Turned the dryer on and sounded great! So hopefully I have taken care of the problem for less than $30!! THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEO!!

Great Video! So easy even a girl can do it! It took me 2 days to fix my dryer. My unit is a dryer over a washer, so it was a little bit harder to take apart and reassemble. One to take it apart and the next to put it back together. The tapping the bearing for the screws took me a little time. I was by myself, so I used a ratchet strap with a pole across the top so I could level the drum and get the new bearing seated and to reassemble all the parts. Thanks for your excellent instructions!

Thank you for this video. This video was made in 2011. I fixed mine today 12/16/2017. A few thoughts and one very important item. 1) My stacked washer/dryer was in a pan and in a very tight area. I used his example to replace the rear bearing without access to the back!!! I was easily able to remove the belt from the front! 2) I removed the 3 screws from the bearing at the back of the drum and pulled the drum straight out. 3) Being super careful I removed and replaced the plastic cup and bearing without access to the back. I couldn’t let the back plate fall or rotate. I used a combination of keeping tension on the back plate and using a piece of 12 gauge wire to hold it in place while I loosened the other side enough to remove and replace the new cup and ball bearing. It worked but I was very, very careful and perhaps a little lucky. 4) I put the grease in the cup and put the new big bearing plate into the cup. I spread the grease around and around. I found that the grease didn’t really stay in a good position. It wanted to just squish out in one blob. I worked it around a lot. I bet it will help the grease stay in the proper place longer. 5) MOST IMPORTANT the new big bearing plate with 3 screw holes IS THREADED AND THE NEW SCREWS ARE MACHINE THREADED AND GO IN SMOOTHLY AS THEY ARE. This has changed since these videos were made. No need to use the 3 old screws or create new threads in the new plate! Use the NEW machine threaded bolts/screws and put them in the threaded holes! 6) I put the new big bearing plate into the cup and then loaded the drum straight in and screwed in the 3 new screws. If I had access to the top I would NEVER do it this way but having limited access I used this method to install the drum. I reassembled and it all went great. It is quiet again. No one has mentioned it but I am sure the ball bearing is to ground the drum so there isn’t a build up of static electricity. Thanks again to the original maker of this video. It helped me a lot.

A couple notes from my experience having done this twice so far: -retrieve all your lost buttons, they will be right there when you lift the top cover. -un-clip the door switch and move the whole front assembly out of the way -vacuum inside after removing drum - be sure one bearing screw is tight at all times, if once side slips down you will need a curved spring hook to retrieve it - when putting the ball-bearing to the back side of the nylon bushing I used painters tape to hold in place leaving overhang to the top. Once both screws were in I loosened them slightly, pulled up on the tape to remove the tape leaving the bearing in place. -before reassembly, remove the filter and remove all the debris stuck to the sides of the front panel. This took me about an hour, got two minor scratch cuts on my hands but saved a ton of money. As much as this is a PITA, it made me realize how much debris can accumulate in a drying causing a potential fire hazard. Thanks for doing this video for us, it was great!

I think you're going to tick off a lot of appliance repairmen. So about a week ago I started hearing this high pitched noise coming from my dryer. I didn't want to pay another $250 repair cost for a $300 dryer so I went to PartSelect and 49% of the replies said the noise was going to be this Rear Drum Bearing assembly. Was only $29.00 with shipping and after watching your video it seemed easy enough to do so I went for it. I was so proud of myself that I successfully replaced it as your vid shows. But....the noise was still there! Thanks to what you showed me about how easy it is to navigate my way through the dryer, I did some poking around and eventually found a 4" x 10" x 2mm piece of styrofoam in the fan blower assembly. As the blades went around the foam at high speed they created the whirr sound. I was able to pull it out with my fingers and fix the sound very easy. I consider this a $29 tutorial on how to fix a dryer really, so thanks! By the way, is there any way that styrofoam is supposed to be in the fan blower?
@partselect
@partselect 10 лет назад
Thanks for sharing your repair story with us, dalegg66! I don't think there's any way that bit of styrofoam was in there on purpose, so good job getting it out and stopping the whirring noise. Thanks for the kind words, too!

Did this today. Thanks for the video. Discovered a tip of my own during the install. Here in Florida it is warm enough that the grease wouldn't hold the bearing in place. Used a strong magnet on the back of the dryer behind the bearing and just removed magnet when done. Worked like a charm.

KUDOS! I replaced the heating element on my 1-1/2 yr old Frigidaire dryer. The vids I watched showed me how to take it all apart, but not put back together. They had me removing the 3 screws inside the drum to take the drum out. Have you ever tried to re-install the drum that way?! What a nightmare. Your video is thurough and very well produced. There is a plastic block mounted center top of front frame, removing that gives you a bit more room to pull the drum out the front. On my model there is a metal vent on back, removing it gets you easy access to belt tensioner than reaching in from front.

I thought of doing this and opted for a bigger dab of grease. I thought about the tape getting heating up from friction and the element and melting around the bearing. Cool the grease a bit and its a good adhesive. Warm grease gets slippery again.

I am unable to get down on my knees and reach through the front to disable the tension on tne belt. I deviated from your instructions only when it came to releaseing the belt tension. I removed the access panel (located in the lower left hand corner on the back). Then I tilted the dryer forward, holding it in position with my left hand, and reached in with my right hand and removed the belt from the ideler pully. All the real weight of the dryer is located in the front on the bottom. Holding the dryer in place while you are doing this requires little effort.

So, I followed your fantastic video & was able to replace our rear bearing & while I had it all apart, the belt too. As instructed, I applied a LIBERAL amount of High Temp grease to the cup; Both sides as well as, filling the bottom cavity. I know that when you replace the bearing into the joint, you need to press it down to totally slip into it's spot. Once the dryer was re-assembled & I started it, it made a terrible whining sound. When I turned it off, the outer drum stopped immediately, while the inner one continued to spin a few seconds. Now, should I run it & see if it stops or ?

My dryer didn't have screws at the top of the front, I had to use a nut driver, 1/4 inch. There were three long screws holding the bottom, too! I also took off that plastic block on the top crosspiece to make it easier to get the drum in and out. It was a bit difficult getting the ball on the shaft lined up and set into the bearing. The trickiest part is reaching back and getting the belt snaked over the pulley and around the drive shaft. Maybe not so bad if you've got long, skinny arms. You might want to wear work gloves when taking the drum out and putting it back in. The edges of the metal parts can be almost sharp.
