I’m so frustrated because I recently bought a house where the seller hid issues on the walls with furniture. I have so much to do to fix up the walls because the previous owners were god awful at repairs. 🤦🏻‍♀️ it’s so tiring to learn everything and do it myself but I can’t wait to have refreshed everything.

Great technique, your experience shows. My gripe with hiding defects especially when people intend to sell is that the problem is never fixed, but passed onto someone else who may not have the money to fix the problem either. But even if they did, they wouldn't know until the ceiling came down because it was hidden. This particular house has outdated materials so it's fine, but newer construction should be making repairs as best as they can. My opinion. Create win-win outcomes is all I'm saying.

Ok. I feel vindicated. I’m a carpenter taping was only a small portion of what I did. And the guys that were tapers only would criticize my 24” knife it didn’t get used often but for those special occasions. One time the exclusive taper did use my 24 he had a 22 inch window pocket that the sun was nearly in line with leaving shadows when it looked perfect without the sunlight. The fibers is something you can get for concrete as well. No rebar but unlike the drywall fibers it has little fuzz sticking up when it dries. I would be interested in the fibers it looks like it could eliminate some headaches on special occasions as well.

Paint is very hard to sand off so I seldom do it. If you can get by with just sanding with 80 grit and then fixing the repair that’s the best way. If not, you might be able to sand it off with 60 grit or something but paint gums up sandpaper really fast.

why not cut out all the drywall that had built-up mud on it? then there's no need to float out because there wouldn't be any hump to begin with...
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY 3 года назад
I take it you didn’t really watch the video? If you did you would see that this whole entire ceiling is quarter inch plywood, (in the title even) and not drywall. And I did cut out the hump, then floated it out. hard to answer these questions when it looks like you didn’t watch the whole Video
@rtkevans
@rtkevans 3 года назад
@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY I did watch the whole video. If you read between the lines, I meant to take any tool of choice (buzz saw, circular saw, jigsaw, sawzall, etc.) and just cut out the offending plywood. Then patch as you did. No hump.
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY 3 года назад
OK, well it wasn’t the plywood that was the problem. It was the fact that they put half-inch drywall in to repair the hole where it was a quarter inch plywood. So I removed the offending drywall and then, yes you still have to float it out even if everything is the same thickness. I did show that it was half-inch drywall in there. Thanks for commenting
