I had a DRZ400sm with TKC80 front and rear. I loved it. It was so much fun to go around everyone on the streets, cut over a sidewalk or a parking lot to avoid a redlight. On the highway, if traffic got backed up and I'd leave the 4 lane, cross the ditch and take the frontage road while everyone else sits idling bumper to bumper. The only issues I had was DEEP gravel and WET pavement. In both situations I had zero confidence and I felt like the front wheel would wash out and dump at any moment.
bro so accurate how you describe traffic when you're in a drz. I love commuting around my city on one and it's highway ready mine can hit 94 no problem after a full stage one upgrade. it's dead of winter and I don't even bother with the car cuz of al the traffic I can skip out on on the drz
Just bought the same bike today, a white 2021 with 1000km on the clock. Pick it up next week. Will be doing this tyre mod asap, thanks for the inspiration. Cheers from Rotorua.
The DRZ is so much more fun for me, the triumph was cool but it's just like every other bike on the road, faster than the DRZ but yeah, just something about suoermotos in general that are killer fun
youre bike is a more out together street focused experience. the drz is practically a dirt bike with tail lights. the sm has an inverted front for and full suspension adjustment which is nice, but it's not as put together on the road. it's super light weight and very very easy to get blown around with the wind especially with the weight distribution being a tad top heavy. steering can kind of wash out on corners at speed because of all that dirt bike suspension travel. so it just doesn't feel as much of a scalpel on the road as the street triple. now what you do get in return for that trade off is incredible off road performance massive ground clearance and the ability to do anything from hitting 100 on the highway to popping curbs like you're on a bicycle to dodge traffic to hitting single track dirk bike trails all in the same day on your way home from work
Double sided tape defeats the purpose. Your suppose to cover the whole face with sealant. That way if you get a crack you don't dump your fluid. And you can get home.
Hey man. Cheers for the great video, and being a great New Zealander ;) I have a 2018 SM and I was looking for more aggressive off road tires so this helps a LOT! Can I ask what you paid for them? I'm a Kiwi too, so NZD is fine ;) Cheers again.
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer That's not too bad, but more than I thought lol. BTW, I have the Yoshi system and the larger carb, the carb and the airbox mod make a WORLD of difference. The exhaust adds personality but it's really the header that adds performance to that package. The carb does eat into the fuel efficiency but it's worth it ;)
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer Booooooo! LOL. Heavy bikes off-road = suck. Not a fan of "Adventure bikes" cause it's fat and heavy on road, fat and heavy off road lol. That's just my opinion based on my experience. I had a DRZ 650 and the 400 is twice as much fun.
Not sure if New Zealand km/h, maybe if i paid attention in the video but in Canada our highway speed limits are 110km/hr typically...How does this bike cruise at those speeds constantly, if i was to do long highway miles. I'm considering selling one of my touring bikes for something to ride offroad/everywhere
