Thats Smart of a city..to Re-purpose their garbage trucks ..for snow plowing...these trucks have the torque, power, and weight to push tons of snow..and hey, might as well get a multi use out of them.
These guys are VERY much underappreciated. Here in Milwaukee last winter, one of our lazy local eyeball news stations decided to "bust" a city plow driver as he took a power nap on a side street. That really pissed me off when I saw that. Those a**holes are so desperate for a story that they harass a plow driver who's taking a little nap after plowing for multiple hours on end. City and/or municipal employees don't fall under regular hours of service regulations. Technically, they can work as long as the city says with no real break. Sometimes the media can be real freakin' jerks.
the media shows alot of appreciation for the sanitation plow operators here in New York but the NYSDOT plow drivers get no respect at all. hell, they arent even acknowledged. you hear praises going out to towns and villages and the city sanitation on the news and radio from that SOB Cuomo but he hates his own state workers even though they leave the highways spotless after a major snowstorm.
The NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) New York’s Strongest always does an unbelievable job. No questions asked. I love it. Nicely Done! Don’t Litter and keep New York City clean. 💯💪👍😊
Good your service is deeply appreciated thanks for everything you do take care best wishes to everyone stay warm out there best wishes to everyone. Joe
Just be glad you don't have to deal with alot of snow all the time. This winter finally got me. Dropped a 50lbs of rock salt on my calf yesterday. Hope things are going well for yoi buddy. Keep up the awesome videos. Be safe too! Hope the weather finally breaks bc I'm sick of the cold and snow.
Todd McShay SORRY TO HEAR THAT! I HOPE YOUR CALF IS OK! I AM DOING OK AND WAITING FOR THIS WEEK WHEN IT WILL HIT 50 DEGREES! HAHA! THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND TODD! ;o)
One thing I don't get about USA is emergency vehicles have loads of warning lights and tow trucks have lights but things like construction and sanitation vehicles have very few lights or even none (not like this in Europe)
Last night and into the wee hours, was time me to catch up on vids I missed while fighting this Iron problems, which started 1-1/2 yrs ago. With all that dang snow, I missed the Apple more for that, and friends I have there, like you and Acepilot, and you are so welcome, my friend, John Have a good FDNY Weekend! :o)
Tough job, specially when a blinding snow is falling and crazy people are trying to drive. Too bad that this video shows so little snow being moved. Try again during a blizzard.
He’s not trying to pick up the snow. Once the weather warms up after a storm you can get away with pushing snow back in the roads to help melt it off, especially in areas it may be hard to remove. Multiple states and some bigger cities are known for this, it’s just cheaper in the long run especially if you get a nice sunny day above freezing.
Matt...What if you damage your car on big pieces of ice. Who pay for damage? I thought it is against the law to put snow in roadway?(not plow drivers, people shoveling)??
peter loch It’s typically not done if the weather is going to remain to cold. You are still responsible for hitting large chunks of debris, no offense but look out that big clear thing called a windshield and don’t hit stuff. More importantly if you watch the video they came around and broke up any big chunks.
Well, when you need to move a lot of snow quickly, you can either buy more vehicles or make do with the vehicles you have. Also, garbage trucks are heavy enough to be able to move snow on their own.
