Most people also figured out the ending... Two months ago when the game came out and they played it. Phil is literally the dude who shows up after a month long project and finally finished last second, saying he figured everything out.
If I had to count how many RPGs I saw this ending on " all the friends we made in the way and the adventure itself that counts" it wouldn't fit on just both hands....

I've been following DSP for a long while and this is easily the saddest thing I've ever seen him do. There is no malice, it's just an inside look into a very depressing man who has deluded himself into believing something that is obviously wrong in an attempt to save face.
