Thanks for the review Hans. For a product like this, you're the only reviewer I trust. DSP, like cables, seems to bring out the most emotionally charged "discussions".

Nice review Hans. I have been using the DSPeaker antimode dual core for over 10 years and think it is a great improvement for my system. This older model seems to be more flexible although more expensive, than the new X2. I use it in digital pass through mode with my phono preamp feeding the balanced analog input and my digital sources fed into the toslink input with the Anti-mode connected to my external Chord DAC. I find it really does “tidy up” some of my room issues with cleaner (less distorted) bass and also clearer midrange. It is highly transparent and I struggle to find any negative impact on the sound quality when I completely omit the anti-mode from the signal path (I can simultaneously run my fully balanced PS Audio phono preamp directly in to my audionote preamp and easily switch inputs between the corrected digital or pure analog signal paths). I do wish it would output a higher sampling rate in to my Chord DAC (it is limited to 24Bit 48kHz digital output). The X2 on the other hand as you stated only outputs analogue signals. My experience is that DSP when implemented in a considered way is beneficial and I wouldn’t go with out it in my room. DSPeaker are a very interesting company who make well implemented DSP products. I’d love to hear your thoughts on their higher end DSP products.

This is exactly what I have been looking for! Though I wish it had digital out, and put this BEFORE my Black Ice DAC. My whole system is around $4k, and I just can't see spending over $1000+ for a Dirac unit with digital out and software license (or I don't want to spend that much!). My listening space is NOT optimal at all, and I cannot have speakers or seating positions anywhere else, so something simple like this in the chain to correct room nodes can likely be game changer, even if it in ways diminishes what the DAC and sources are capable of extracting. I've tried your tutorial of adjusting 4 frequencies in Audirvarna, and discovered how vital some correction can be, at least in my space.

Hi, i know this was a while ago. I have been looking into these devices. There is also a dspeaker antimode x2D this has digital inputs and outputs. Optical and coax. I have a cd transport and separate dac so i am thinking of maybe trying it in between them.

Here in the US, Paradigm has been closing out a similar device for a while now. Their PW-Link product is almost identical (including Anthem Room Correct) and DTS Play-Fi. For $200 the device is a home run, and I've even encouraged Paradigm to continue selling the product once the new old stock is gone. The ARC software does require running it from a PC but once done the PC is out of the loop. The difference in sound quality is hard to be believed from my system (Rotel A11 Tribute and KEF LS 50 Metas). I did find your observation interesting as system quality goes up the need for room correction might diminish. I suspected, as you stated, that the room correction module could be a limiting factor in the system. BTW, you look very well, so keep up with whatever you're doing. Cheers.

It's the algorithme that define the quality. So having the same functionality doesn't say anything about the sound quality.

I have some questions regarding the pw link. I am not interested in its streaming function, just the ARC correction. As I understand it, it works only for 2.1 systems correct? Is the new ARC software being updated to support all the new features of ARC genesis or is it confined only to the latest Anthem products? Thanks

@@sbattosai Hi Yann, I'm running a Rotel A11 Tribute 2-channel system. Much to my surprise, this little device is still getting the latest ARC upgrades. From what I'm seeing in the software, it does appear that would work for a 2.1 system. The Link has an optical out, so it stands to reason that it likely will pass a 5.1 signal as optical was limited to 5.1. My understanding is to get beyond that the system would need to use HDMI. Having experience with a Yamaha home theater receiver (RX-V2600), your challenge would be in routing the digital feed out/into the system. If you were to have a 5.1 capable optical input switcher (I've seen some on Amazon) you could route the different digital inputs (TV, CD, game console, etc...) into the switcher and then out of the switcher into the Link's optical input. From there, all the signals would go through the room correction software and back to the digital output feeding your home theater receiver. This is similar to how I run my system: the output from the DAC goes into an analog input on the Link and the output from the TV goes into the optical input on the Link. Sonically, the device works very well and my system is quite pleasurable. While I know you're not interested in DTS Play-Fi it has been improved and does support gapless playback on Qobuz. For free, that makes Play-Fi a worthwhile addition. I happened to check last night, and they're still for sale. I like the unit so much that I bought a second as in my view it solves a multitude of audio problems. If you have any other questions feel free to add them to this thread.

@@larryh9525 thanks, after reading more about the device, it looks like I should give the PW Amp/ML Forte a try due to the subwoofer output. In those systems ARC genesis allows bass management while in the Link/Unison it does not. I have a Yamaha receiver from 2017 and YPAO is not fantastic. I do have an antimode 8033 for bass dsp duties but would love to see how my room looks like with a more powerful room correction software without breaking the bank. The Forte is on sale at $250 so I am leaning towards this system. The antimode X2 is probably a little too much for my wallet. We'll see how it goes and how I can integrate it in my system. Thanks for detailed explanation.
@larryh9525
@larryh9525 Год назад
@@sbattosai Yann, my Yamaha HTR has YPAO, so I'll shed some light on my experiences with it. YPAO seems to have only 7 adjustment points, which line up with the 7 PEQ adjustments whereas ARC adjusts over the full spectrum. YPAO always seems to run the treble hot above 16K (like +6db), which required me to use the PEQ adjustment to bring it closer to 0db gain. If you're comfortable with the PEQ, it's possible to tailor the sound more than ARC. However, ARC is easier. With ARC, since I don't use a sub (KEF Metas), I tweak the bottom end under 40Hz giving it a bit more foundation. I have two residences, with two different systems. In residence #1, I have the Yamaha and a Paradigm 5 system (with Studio 20s as the fronts). That combination with YPAO was excellent, especially for music. In residence #2, I have a Rotel A11 Tribute (2ch) with the KEFs. With ARC the KEFs sound amazing, so I figured that the Paradigm's would sound equally amazing. Based on that thought, I shipped the Paradigm's from CT to NC. No matter how much I tweaked ARC, I could never get the Paradigm's to sound as good as memory served in the first location. My point in mentioning this is that certain speakers and amp combinations (with YPAO) sound amazing. BTW, without YPAO the Paradigm's sounded awful, so there must have been some combination between the Yamaha/YPAO that tweaked what the Paradigm's were missing. In the end, I sold the Paradigms. When I go back to CT in the fall, I'll bring with me a set of Elac UB52s and see how they fair with the Yamaha/YPAO combination. Good luck with your research.

Been using anti-mode in my home theater setup for a long time and it is a really good unit. Now started to think that this new one could fit into my main stereo setup as well. I've kept it totally passive, line-array dipole setup, but there is slight stereo imbalance because of the room shape. I wonder if this could fix some of it.

If you have an Innuos zenith that runs into a standalone DAC which runs into the integrated amp, this unit would go between which two pieces?
@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel

No, hit has no digital outputs. You should look at MiniDSP models for that.
@bryantaylor2946
@bryantaylor2946 Год назад
Actually, if the Innuos has analog outputs, you would connect these into the X2, just like a CD player. From there the signal would go into your integrated amp.

Both is possible, it depends a bit on the amplifiers used. The safest way is in-between the digital player and the preamp.

@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thanks for this answer. So, by owning a Denafrips Pontus II, a Denafrips Pre- Amp and 2 Class D monoblocks it's obvious to connect the AntiMode between the Dac and Pre-amp? Little bit afraid losing resolution. Thanks again Jakob

“A very good system” is a vague description. But depending on whether you are a very critical listener or not, I would certainly use the system op to € 6000 stereo’s. Above that, look for the MiniDSP SHD Stúdio (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zr_oqF9jb-8.html). Above about € 25k you should go for acoustic measures.

As I have noted earlier, a DSP can solve problems and as long as the cured problems do more harm than the computational work does, it's a good compromise.

@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thank you - yes it was mentioned in the video. I just find it odd, that a little PCM math can do so much harm. Studios do it all the time 🤔They must have "better" processors or data to work with. Changing the analog crossover in contrast sounds natural. I clearly do not undertand everything - just using my ears.
@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Год назад
There are more powerful processors but they are costly. They are used in upsamplers like those by Chord, Auralic and Grimm. But even with high end processors clever algorithms are needed. And I wonder if high end algorithms for room correction are in existence today. As I have mentioned before, using true high end audio equipment almost always make room correction unnecessary.

@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Think you may be on to something. The room is a smallish (12.5' x 14') concrete bunker, which is shared, and which I can't alter much. Thick rug over most of the floor, a big over-stuffed couch, and a quilt on the wall behind. That's it. I tried the Klipsch RP600M. AAAARGH!!! Then I sank about $4grand into a diy MTM ribbon affair. MUCH better, but nearfield was the only way to get bliss from them. Next came Siegfried's LXmini, with four channels of Neurochrome class AB power, and a Nelson Pass balanced ASP electronic xover. MY, OH, MY!!! So good, in fact, that a woman who is deaf in one ear (and who always declares that bits-is-bits) asked immediately, ''What did you do?'' when I changed speaker cables the other day. ''Why?,'' I said. ''Somehow, it doesn't sound quite as smooth as before,'' she replied. I had switched in some new cables that apparently need lots of break-in and sound a bit harsh right out of the box. The old ones have many hours on them and sound smooth and warm by comparison. As she was coming back down the hall about an hour or so later she shouted, ''So, I see you gave up on your new toys already.'' 😄 So, yeah, I've got lots of other stuff to work on before I start spending ducats on room correction.
