Hey Gents, 👍😊 Great discussion tonight ; provided lots of chuckles! 😂 Please do not think I am pumping up my own tyres, but it's true to say I have had a lot of professional IT experience. It was pleasing to me to hear you recommending all the correct brands tonight. Monitors/filters/tripods.... the same applies to all, buy quality first up. You will not be disappointed. Plus, not for one moment would I turn people away from 2nd hand gear. Buying second hand? Even more reason to search out the top brands. Thanks for a great show Gents! 👍😎

Adding technical knowledge and experience for monitors - look for the color gamut ability of the screen - eg. a MUST is 100% sRGB coverage/ability. ASUS is mine because of it's out of the box accuracy guarantee, only SOME Dell are good. EIZO are for total pros or pre-press environments.

Great show boys. Good to hear your opinions on filters and memory cards, I use Hoya and San Disk......have bought some cheap filters years ago but I can tell they are cheap and nasty so don't use them. You live and learn I guess. Can't wait to see and hear about your Tarkine adventures 😀

I only use a filter for specific effects. I know from bitter experience that using one for protection is a waste of time and in some circumstances my do more harm than protecting.

Yep I bought a cheap Samyang lens for my new camera and immediately wished I'd bought the original lens to suit my camera . I don't usually buy cheap out of character for me and certainly shall learn my lesson from it

Great show guys as usual. Interesting to hear about the NiSi polarizer. I currently use NiSi filters & have also found that the polarizer on the odd occasion doesn’t do anything.

Your comments about the Rokinnon lens for astro having only a manual focus mode - would you use auto focus in astro photos? The MF would be cheaper than the AF version. If you using only for astro with MF, then then the AF is not used.

Just a question about cp filters, do they not only work when the sun is at the right angle to the photographer ?

Hi, guys.I'm not a fan of UV filters whatsoever.I do not believe they protect your lens.ill explain why. The lenses are nano coated anyway. Agree on UV filters ... SanDisk are great. There are some tripod that are light ulanzi...manfrotto..that are stable. Biggest bug bear is guys and girls that don't use blowers to clean the end of a lens. They are like 5 backs or 10 bucks and then good climbing cloths. The amount of lessons that I deliver and then rock up and people have not cleanedd in gear in years. The other thing that UV filters do is they trap moisture between the filter and the glass. They are not completely sealed often. And you get humidity breathing between the filter. And the front element of the lense and this causes fungus.I have used nisi and find them ok ... But I use square ones, not circular ones.I've always believed circular ones cause vignetting and color casting not the square ones. Urth make great filters. I have to admit the Nissy polarizer is terrible..I use a different brand polarizer , but the ND are good. Urth are good. Lee are excellent. The only issue with hoya is cleaning .. they smudge more easily. But I don't like circular filters.I never have, I do believe the colour casting is different to square ones. It's just the way the glass is made. UV filters are dumb. But I do use a MacBook Pro. And I'll tell you why again is that it actually has a photography setting building to it. You just need to go into your settings for light. And I find that very, very useful and I Ve never had to collaborate. It. I Ve actually got a 16 inch MacBook Pro. Which yes, is very expensive. But I like it occasionally I do hook it up to a Ben Q monitor. But I can afford it. Because I make decent money out of my photography and I have a good day jobut. There are some cheaper alternateven. People starting out can start using an iPad pro. Now, if they just starting out they can be a great option as well. There are some cheaper options with computer software as well.
