The story behind how Kaizer Chiefs got their name was because of Kaizer Motaung, who'd returned from a stint with Atlanta Chiefs of the original North American Soccer League to found the club, and added his name to "Chiefs". The club even borrowed the Atlanta Chiefs' logo to serve as their own. As for the band, they took their name from the club due to Lucas Radebe, a former Kaizer Chiefs player that was playing for Leeds United (their favorite club) during the band's formative years. And for what it's worth, they're not the only South African club with an NASL 1.0 namesake. After two stints in the late 70's and early 80's with several different NASL 1.0 clubs, Ephraim "Jomo" Sono founded Jomo Cosmos as a phoenix club from the former Highlands Park FC. The Moses Mahbida Stadium was origibally going to be the main stadium for the Durban 2022 Commonwealth Games, till they ran out of money and was stripped of hosting the event. Which was shifted to Birmingham.
