Not something to be proud of. It literally says that Western companies see SA as a bigger source of capitalization and exploitation. What about SA brands? Wouldn’t it be great to see local brands all across SA? Only local brands in SA making waves are AMA Kip Kip, grandeur and a few others so what you said is not a flex.
@boggeststeppa1, they may not have Mazda but they’ve got their own local brands. You think what you’re saying is a flex and it’s not. It just shows that SA is more exploited by Western companies and serves Western capitalists. Hence, the huge inequality gap in SA

GDP per Capita of a country is a function of the relationship the citizens have with their economy. Many Nigerians are fixated in amassing as much money rather than expenditure within the economy. This leads to a very thin middle class, and without a strong middle class, there is no hope of economic prosperity. Nigerian society must take a close look in the mirror and see themselves for who they are.

SA also has about 50 times more new car sales (5000% more), more Netflix, apple and Spotify subscribers than Nigeria, all that with ~25% of Nigerian population size. SA spends much more than Nigeria on non essential goods. SA has 1050 KFC outlets, Nigeria has around 70.
@Philadande_Shange every single one of those countries you mentioned is Western owned, from Netflix to KFC. How many local brands are SA supporting? Nigerians support more of their local brands or so it seems. Meanwhile the KFC prominence will explain why some South Africans are obese
Multichoice is South Afican. Nigeria does not have a middle class. That is the reason. In South Africa we have even more alternatives than Nigeria. You can make up all the excuses in the world for Nigeria. The truth is that the Nigerian economy is very weak. In 2024 the Nigerian economy is at $253 billion . Nigerians are very tech savvy and a lot of people stream instead of pay for cable(multichoice, etc) because its better value for money, this is a world wide trend, traditional cable is not the future. Their subscription base is just over 12% of the population in SA, it used to be more but due to their offering and affordable internet fibre connections most households subscribe to Netflix, Disney+,Showmax, Amazon prime.
