Best part is EFF is also falling into shambles and losing founding member every month, uMkhonto we Sizwe also has no control over their party and looking like they will bomb in a few years. Also our GDP is doing great because the ANC can't steal without a DA member knowing about it now
You frame that as an ANC problem when it easily can be other parties problems who are anti worker for example. Corruption is the most necrotic poison for any movement
Having other parties in the coalition should ensure the ANC is held accountable and encourage them to do better. Also DA finally have a chance in gov't to prove themselves
In your view, has the DA proven anything? Only two Parties have taken this opportunity to prove Positive namely PA and FF Plus. The DA is no different to the ANC if not worse
This is the key factor here. If the DA actually are competent and life improves in SA, maybe more black votes in the long term will shift to them, enabling future coalition governments to come about... And as you say, a successful DA forces the ANC to compete and improve themselves.
@@viwembande9497 that’s an opinion, they have the broadest support for a right party. Nobody English speaking wants to join vv+ for a lot of reasons you already know of so it’s very ironic you are typing this in english 😂.
As much as the ANC is a horribly incompetent and corrupt party, one thing that makes them stand out as a rare party in Africa, was that unlike other liberation parties, the ANC actually transitioned into becoming just another political party, they didn't contest the election and they accepted the results with grace and have chosen to put aside their differences and form a coalition with its main rivals like the DA and others to form a GNU. They also made the great choice to exclude the EFF and MK from power.
Go ahead and fool yourself; its not the ANC it is Ramaphosa and a few corruptible members of their NEC. The MKP is correcting the mess and the sellout has been exposed. The ANC of Ra will coalesce with the DA and become one but the majority is coming home to the MKP. Clock's ticking, loot as much as you can whilst you can.
Why add “as a South African” when you already know most of the people watching are South Africans. I swear we’re one of the few countries online that constantly has to let people know where we’re from before making a statement.
South african here. stuff is going better, but its still a ways away to being good. just keep trying government, we are all people of this country so lets all be as happy as each other, and make compromises where needed!!
Ramaphosa has been a disappointment since becoming president. He's somewhat of a weak leader, slow to act, resistant to making tough choices. While Jacob Zuma and his sychophants leaving played a big role in the ANC losing their majority, Ramaphosa's leadership, and their performance under him, played a part too. It is ironic then, that he is the right man to lead the government of national unity. His key strength, and first instinct, is consensus building. This is no exaggeration - he was the ANC's chief negotiator in the negotiations to end Apartheid. Since then, he has also been involved in mediation/negotiation in other conflicts on the continent. This is where he thrives.
As an outsider looking in, I think this comeback story is a good rebuke of single party rule or the rule of a small number of parties. Democracy works best when everyone has a voice. Not some clique of oligarchs.
I was sure the ANC would enter a coalition with their more natural fitting parties like the EFF and MK. But at the end of the day. Its about governing. And neither of those parties are remotely interested in anything other than fistshaking and disruption. Proud of this GNU
Actually they were planning on getting the EFF into the coalition but the DA didn't want that, and the EFF had a bit of power struggle because Malema was negotiating with the ANC for the position of Deputy President while Floyd Shivambu was also negotiating behind Malema's back to have a government position as well. But because Malema is so stubborn, he decided to take out the EFF from the negotiations and the efforts made by Shivambu were succeeding and he was almost given a position in government, but because Malema took the EFF out of the negotiations, it destroyed his hopes. Hence why Shivambu is no longer part of the EFF and has fled to the MK party even though he and Malema once fiercely opposed Jacob Zuma because of his corruption, but now Shivambu is singing praises for Zuma and has gotten his blessing to become the President of the MK party. Malema was not happy about this and he lashed out hard, he even went after the wife of one of the EFF's leaders because she liked a tweet where she praised Shivambu for leaving the EFF. And so the ANC decided to just go with the DA and other parties and exclude the EFF.
@TheKnowledgeMan101 thank God they weren't included in the coalition. They're racist, economically illiterate rabble rousers who don't have the foggiest idea as to how to run a country or build reasonable concessions across the political divide, they would have spoiled the coalition
People believe their currency has the worth it does because they have no other option. Even in a hyperinflationary environment, individuals must continue to use their hyperinflationary currency since they likely have minimal access to other currencies or gold/silver coins.
Inflation is gradually going to become part of us and due to that fact any money you keep in cash or in a low-interest account declines in value each year. Investing is the only way to make your money grow and unless you have an exceptionally high income, investing is the only way most people will ever have enough money to retire.

Investing without proper guidance can lead to mistakes and losses. I've learned this from my own experience. If you're new to investing or don't have much time, it's best to get advice from an expert.
@@intelligencefactor03As a black South African I have to admit most of the countryman the anc gone. The issue is we can't agree on what should come next.
I think most people would say it's because the ANC can't cover each others corruption as well anymore. But the best part about this was hearing MK and EFF have less people voting for them again. Those two parties would kill this country in a heartbeat.
@@nigelmarwa6246 their idea of nationalising the mines and land reforms are not something I agree with. I don’t know of a single time in any country’s history where nationalisation has had a good effect on the economy nor, as we saw with Zimbabwe, should land reforms happen as food would become scarce and acres of land would go to waste. You may feel differently about the subject matter and I respect you. But this is my personal opinion about this.
@@yrnkevinsmithC-137 You are correct. They basically made this coalition happen. But I do not believe they should gain any power further. As to my knowledge they are also for land reforms which is something I think would severely impact the economy in a negative way. But again if you support them I respect your decision or if you are just pointing out the fact that they in a way caused all this then yes, I am aware of it and it played in our favour.
Well, there are a few reasons. First, the leader of the party Julius Malema has said several highly racist remarks towards Indian people, particularly Indian South African migrants. This includes calling them smelly, saying they are all liars and scammers, and at one point I believe saying they need to be deported. In short, he talks about Indians the way Trump talks about immigrants. Second, he has also said that the country needs to forcefully repatriate and nationalise all white owned land for the good of the nation. He has openly admitted that this will have to be done using force, and has said he does not care. Granted, this one is a little more nuanced since white Africaaners own most of the biggest and richest farms and companies in the nation, but Malemba willingness to use the violence to enact his plans as seen in his October 2022 eally is still very unsettling to many people. Third, the part in general has had a history of SA and violence. This is true for other parties in the South African Parliament, but for the EFF in particular, this includes party leadership posting instructions on how to make a petrol bomb, intimidating journalists, assault, and other charges. Again, I will admit I don't know everything about the party's history and I certainly can't claim to have their best interests, but hopefully this can help explain why some people don't like them
"...a country that has struggled with rolling blackouts for years..." - 17 years, to be exact. The youngest voters will probably not remember a time before daily power cuts.
Let's be honest loadshedding gotten worse in 2022,before that we never had loadshedding in summer We used to have loadshedding in winter only. I only noticed loadshedding in 2013,before that, we didn't experience it where I lived.
although, let's be fair here. The lack of loadshedding is in spite of Eskom, not because of it. So many people and business have installed solar systems (or even just inverters with batteries) that the country is building up a private battery back up to smooth out the peaks and troughs of electricity demand.
If you can't count on the government then of course private initiatives will come and will work better than what government was trying to do. It's always the case when there's a monopoly there's no need to be competent because people are already dependant on you anyway.
That's really interesting. And, to be fair, it's not trivial to manage a grid with so many private suppliers connected to it. It took a lot of incompetence to get to this point but it also takes some actual competence to transition out of it.
Sure that’s one reason why loadshedding has stopped, but you also can’t deny Eskom’s improvements in the recent months. The Energy Availability factor of their power stations is way up compared to last year, they are spending much less money on diesel generators than last year, and they’re expected to make a profit for the first time in 7 years.
I find it suspect that loadshedding can be ended without significant investments in power generation. De Ruyter, the ex-CEO who was poisoned, said that it's possible to end loadshedding if you skip maintenance, but that's very much a short-term solution.
@@intelligencefactor03yeka okunye zolo! Afrikaans is an official language of South Africa. He is real South African and it’s racist to reject him merely because of his ethnicity.
This is the greatest change our nation has seen since 94. Many successful nations run on coalition and is the true meaning of unity in diversity. We are finally seeing positive change!
Social media after the elections things have shaken up a lot. The prison raid, the raid on illegal immigrants and the prosecution of establishments that practice illegal acts that violated labour laws has been a benefit
AS a South African, there is more to this than just what is seen on the outside. GNU is doing something, but it's not doing well on a provincial level. Lots of in fighting, backstabbing and Still lack of doing anything meaningful. We are hopeful but its not going as good as it looks
When the previous head of home affairs is an ANC minister that has been appointed to numerous portfolios, and now I think is head of finance. :/. But surely all that experience cycling through posts he will run it even better than Home Affairs, right.
Coalition governance has unlocked competition and accountability. I think the growth of DA and IFP are key to the success of GNU and South Africa as a whole.
Those White people are South Africans, even Indians are South Africans it's the Rainbow nation. With that logic what about Americans and Australians which most are Europeans.
I don't think Cyril planned on losing the majoirty. But it worked out the best way it could, even for the ANC. The majority was going to kill the ANC eventually. Now that they have the the DA and the IFP and PA to worry about the detials like stopping the looting and making sure KZN gets the TLC it needs and letting coloureds feel properly represented for the first time, things can maybe get on the right track for this great beautiful country
@@cxzact9204 of course they didn't but remember ANC was still the one that was Gaven a certain period of time to make a decision and they chose to do the GNU which means the rest of ANC agreed to ramaphosa's decision
Amen brother! You are so right. Many Zulus seem to hate him, others see him as weak not doing enough- not many know Ace Magashule and others had him by the balls.
@@ZemanTheMightyI just know this country too well to not be negative about it. I just know that whatever they did to “fix” load shedding isn’t sustainable due to how quickly it happened. Will not be surprised if it comes back, this has happened time and time again where it would go away for months or even over a year and then return worse than before. I want to be wrong but I’ve lost so much hope in this country already.
I'd imagine that loadshedding has "ended" because of skipping crucial maintenance. This will eventually come back to bite since not much has been invested into bringing in new power generation that can meet current demand. Even the ex-CEO said that you can "end" loadshedding for a while if maintenance is skipped. I feel the new CEO at Eskom has done precisely that.
Clicked this immediately because I remember the negativity in the last video about South Africa. We are resilient. Just when you think we're down and out, we'll surprise you. This country is a movie.
Great summary. As a South African I feel generally the sentiment is very positive on the ground, a lot still to sort out but it feels as though we’re slowly turning the corner… tbc
WHAT! @6:39 33% unemployment?? That's insane... that's nearly apocalyptic, I would even argue. My word. Well, I knew SA has been in dire straits for something like 25 years, and considering their other problems, which I have been told of, it probably shouldn't be quite as shocking that the job-market is messed up in SA. This new government certainly has their work cut out for them! Here's to hoping they can turn it around to at least some extent.
Keep in mind many developing countries have large-scale unemployment, but people who sell trinkets on the streets may not be included in the official unemployment numbers in other countries. Anyone who is seeking a formal job and doesn’t have one is counted as unemployed in South Africa
If you only knew all. It hasn't been easy being born in 1990 and feeling for a long time you can see where the corruption is, etc but your voice didn't matter. I guess it was like that before so "payback" but I never knew that time and also struggling to make a living in the home I was born in. Often feeling like a 2nd class citizen when it comes to policies. I was told when I graduated I was the least employable person in SA just because I was white and a male. Opposite to how people tout it. Not fun.
It's good to hear that things are improving for South Africa. When I heard about what was going on around Zuma being kicked out of the ANC and the last election general conditions sounded awful.
They’re not doing well like at all, there’s hopes this coalition can bring something good to SA but the country is rife with problems that won’t be solved in just one term of this unity government
@@myshepspud1 Pretty sure News24 is beyond saving as long as Adrian Basson is the editor. Pillay already sunk the Mail & Guardian, and Daily Maverick was good for all of 5 minutes after launch
Great video, I really appritence it when you make videos centred on Africa. Will you be reviewing their budget when it is released and the different parties reactions to it?
When I was there right after the election, from what every South African I've talked to have told me, the bar for the ANC is so low I don't know if it's worth celebrating them doing better or not 😅 But I guess having other previously opposition parties holding them accountable is def working, even if just a bit.
It depends, it's not a good strategy for the DA to tie themselves to a failing government. It's only worth staying in the coalition if the ANC stop making incompetent economic decisions
I hope its not the old case of bring them in to get things working then strongarm them into populist policies.. We all know a national health plan and anything civil benefits is not planned for white people. No even for us born in 1990 always had to make our own plan. Government has actively paid people around me based on colour and yet me who has nothing but still built a community project that benefitted loads. Do you think I got anything but treated like a 2nd class citizen after everything. Others are given land, do you think they treat with respect land I actually had to buy?
The DA has no choice but to stay in this coalition. Their vote share has remained flat, so this is pretty much their electoral peak. The ANC only lost its majority because of the MK party splitting off; if you count both ANC + MK vote share than it's pretty much the same as what the united ANC got back in 2019, i.e., SOUTH AFRICANS HAVEN'T CHANGED THEIR VOTING PREFERNECES.
Sounds great. Externally, I think South Africa also gained a lot of international 'vibes' from their recent active roles in Israel - Palestine conflict and BRICS. Not sure their stance is a positive for investors, but I bet it generates good will for locals and regional/fellow global south sentiments.
Been keeping up with this via the DA's RU-vid channel. Mostly just party line stuff, but the stats are true! Lots of improvement. Hope this government can last long enough to make change without any scandals to tear it apart. I'm optimistic! Love to South Africa from the USA
That's what America needs Independent parties to not be control by a small country that everyone naturally hates. People don't America they hate the ruling class.
The alternative is a coalition with a neo-feudal MK party that defies ideological analysis and a far-left EFF that has corrupt leaders and the ANC and DA know that if they can’t work together, then the nation is likely doomed.
Its actually not Vibes Based as you say. The problem with the ANC was corruption and ineptitude in government positions. The DA is a more competent party that actually focuses on getting work done and the combination brings a level of restraint and internal government checks within a the actual government and not just in parliament
To me, this is a demonstration of what democracy is good at. I wouldn't say it's ideal at picking the best policy or the best candidate, but it is quite good at acting as a check on those in power. That's what I heard from South Africans in this election: they didn't say definitively "we want this policy" or "we want this leader" but they did say "we don't want ANC dominance anymore". That was enough to shift the government onto a different track. And, hopefully, this new competitive mode will continue further and more politicians will act under the knowledge that they will be voted out if they can't deliver for their people.
The coalition works became no one wants to be there and they hate eachother so corruption is essentially impossible (still happens just less) because someone is going to snitch eventually and use that to boost their party's reputation but this is on a national level. Provincial level there is a lot of infighting
South Africa seems to have hit close to rock bottom, due to many things but ANC unchecked power is probably one factor. With this addressed, I hope things can turn around.
Investment confidence can basically save them, enough of it already fixes unemployment issue. Next it will increase the supply of money in the budget, this can be used to bolster anti-corruption institutions and policies [ if they have those ], better they do this rather than waste potential money on social welfare. It will make people stay unemployed and will not fix inequality that compared to corruption and unemployment isn't even that important.
Social spending is important, there should be a safety net especially in a nation with the highest wealth and income inequality in the world (if I’m not mistaken). That allows people to move on to employment while keeping disruption in low.
@@BlackDoveNYC If it isnt high enough to convince people its better to stay unemployed, the case with politicians is that they always love to spend not their money if it means they will be reelected with it. Social populism is a thing that ruins economies. ANC seems to be the party comparable with Bolivarian movement in Venezuela that used social populism as means of extending their power, in one moment they just drowned themselves with debt.
Nothing in life is perfect but this is a good news story. The world could do with more of it. Best luck to SA and I hope all can be prosperous and feel mutual respect
Very loaded statement. Its a sensitive and complex topic where both eras had aspects that were better than the other, but overall democracy is better purely due to it being moral which apartheid was not
I am really positive above the GNU and hope the country improves. However, one thing does concern me. If the country improves to a significant extent, that will mean that the parties in the GNU increase their support, and that could possible mean the ANC getting above 50% in the next election, which would basically set the country on the starting blocks again.
The only thing I'm worried for is the next election, where some might re-vote for ANC thinking they've improved because of the slight improvement. Guess we'll get there when we get there.
Most people who voted for the ANC did so because of loyalty and not what the party has done and the massive amount of votes which they lost indicates that the psychological bond is broken in many people.
People trusting their country more (which is generally what 'vibes' mean) is one of the hardest things to achieve for any government, as any choice both important or not can backfire with different groups of people. ANC bet on a good horse by forming the coalition, as even if it falls apart, people will trust that they tried. The vindictive difference between 'opponent' and 'enemy' in is especially important in countries in unstable regions (SA isn't _that_ unstable internally, but their neighbours sure are. While the country is at least united religiously, having 6-7 different regionally dominant languages isn't easy to overcome). Hardline factionalism could keep ANC in power for at least a decade more, but it would tear the country apart in three or so.
Crazy how indenial the ruling party was. Do you guys remember the 2016 Local Government elections when the ANC lost Tshwane (Pretoria), Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Nelson Mandela Bay. These are major metros. Yet they still did not change anything!!! They did everything possible to loose their majority...The only surprise is that it took this long
What they said about Ramaphoria was so true. I laughed so hard when they thought Ramaphosa would be better than Zuma. But the GNU kind of is the same, Phala Phala still isn't being investigated, not to mention Marikana.
The GNU is honestly game changing. I believe that if we continue with such a setup it’ll allow us have a better understanding of how each party works and will actually keep our government accountable. This election was a wake up call for the ANC and showed the youth how important it is to vote. I hope that things continue getting better and that we are actually able to get to the point where it’s actually possible to tackle bigger issues such as housing, food and security crises. I pray that things continue to improve in our beautiful country ✨
It doesn’t matter how well the gnu performs at a national level, if the work and “unity” doesn’t trickle down to municipalities you can expect bad service delivery to continue
The country is doing well because of the DA and fellow parties not because of the ANC. The BELA education bill is against the right to mother tongue education. The NHI bill under the ANC is unfeasible. The DA Pretoria Mayor did a great job in bringing water and infrastructure to forgotten sections surrounding Pretoria.
We love the GNU (government of national unity) because the thieves (all politicians are thieves are not to be trusted) are watching over each other and calling each other out to prove to us voters who’s doing great job 😂 South Africa is on course correct right now and getting back being the amazing nation that we know we are. ANC or the DA must never get right out majority🇿🇦💚💛
Dont get me started. I started a community project in kzn with nothing still have nothing because Im white we just supposed to make our own plan right? I gave so many people not my language culture race upliftment and what could they do back for me as a human being? Nothing, because im white. Its expected. I dont have a job i have debt but others are sleeping on beds I provided dont share money I arranged for them. Because Im white, right?
And lastly.. The land. I have seen how black south africans get given land for cheap in their communities. We not seen "of the land" so we dont get that. you dont get taxed on those. keep cows, goats on land you dont own you dont care where they go they eat off someone else yet you own it? You have multiple properties that family leave you in other communities that AGAIN is not taxed. I hve to buy land never just given it and even then no respect that I as a south african, can have land too my own house too. No I must buy these in the city.
So stop the BS!!! Ive seen it in the community this past 10 years. Yet always you racists take off white people use them until you dont need them... Then, I did it all alone go back to europe! In reality you guys have access to land like Kings. Why do you think anc ate so much
Well done on finally publishing a video like this. No one is asking you to report on South Africa (you don't do any reports on Canada or Australia and their housing crisis/rising cost of living crisis or their rise in violence and right wing violence) but its nice to see you're not behaving like the Guardian or Daily Mail and telling everyone their going to die if they come here. I wouldn't be surprised if this channel was run by a South Africa who ran to England to escape "the next Zimbabwe". This channel and its sister channels have acted like SA is dead in the water and yet isn't the UK falling apart? Heating or eating sounds brilliant. RAC school closures and 3 million children not being fed? Very 1st world. Brexit...sounds like you're having no trade issues with the EU 😅
The UK's news networks are rubbish, I think most people recognise that. I also think that RSA is actually far more united that the UK atm, party because of news networks spreading disunity, poor governmental actions etc.
The threat of pragmatism replacing ideology. And competence replacing loyalty.. Who'd have thought that could work? OK we are talking vibes not proper change. And those egos could easily ruin it quickly again. I wonder what ths votsrs in the US could learn from this? Oh I'd say absolutely nothing.
100 days is too early to tell anything, we have to make it with this government for another 5 odd years then still the metro/municipal elections which stand to change the dynamics, with the changing of mayors in Johannesburg and Tshwane for example. Foreign policy is ANC dominated and at odds with the DA which is causing friction within the GNU, this is a significant detail not to mention, since pro-Russia/Palestine ANC contrasts heavily with pro-NATO/Israel DA. Personally, the reference to 'markets' and 'currency' performance is a cop out to actually looking at what the government is changing or doing. The rand was stronger under Zuma but did that mean he was a better president? ( bar the finance minster shuffle we should remember ). Too add to the context of the youth, as much as 'loyalty' is not the same, the ANC and it's alliance partners have been beating the same service delivery drum for the last 30 years with more degradation and crime to show for it than the socialist ideas the party claimed to have all those years ago. It's easy to be pessimistic but optimism is necessary, with that, at least the ANC can't just goosestep its way through South Africa ( ok Western Cape, we see you ) as it has before without repercussion and we, the voters have shown that.
GNU is the future DA ministers seem to be competent and actually working while some ANC ministers are also trying to catch up. We just was a working, competent government with no corruption .
