Thank you for the guidance. I'm glad that you didn't use the bearing press.

Great instructions, thanks a lot! However, for those coming here after me, please be aware that on my 2022 DT Swiss M1900 Spline, the drive-side bearing was held in place by either the ratchet ring OR by the thin bushing that was behind that on my wheel. Unfortunately, removing the ratchet ring is no easy feat; I had to apply hundreds of Newton-meters of torque using a scaffold pipe and a wrench welded to ratchet ring tool... I can imagine if it was only the bushing that held it in place (I didn't check), perhaps that's missing on the wheel in the video, making this repair significantly easier.

Bummer! Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Putting the removal tool in a vice and using the tire as a giant lever is the best solution
@zmooc
@zmooc 9 месяцев назад
@@larkinkelly3754 Definitely is, but that's assuming you have a strong vice mounted on a _very_ heavy work bench. Few people have that...

To get the non drive side bearing in , I managed with the press . I noticed you had a lot of thread spare on your blue handle . I'm using the same press by the way , cheap but helpful.

I haven't took apart my wheel yet. It's the stock wheel / hub on a YT Jeffsy 2017. They are M1900 rims and I think it has a 3 pawl system (I am not sure if "spline" means that it has a ratchet on both sides but I don't think so). Anyway...I think the freewheel is skipping so I have to check. If the teeth are done, I can replace the freehub. But what if the ratchet is consumed (the teeth of the ratchet inside the hub there where the bearings are)? Is there a way to replace that one? Or maybe it is just dirty...I will check and hope for the best.

Rogermorsee, sorry for the delayed reply. The ratchet ring that is on the hub, just above the bearing, IS REPLACEABLE. You will probably have to order from DT Swiss and it requires a special tool to unscrew the ratchet teeth and then install the new ones.

Spline would relate to your disc mount . Shimano spline with lock ring , or 6 bolt rotor mount.

A bit late, but I thought I'd leave this here. I had to remove the ratchet ring to get the bearing out of my wheel. The tool for that, which you can just order of Amazon, is actually meant to be placed in a vise so you can turn the wheel on top of it. However, you're going to need a seriously high quality vise mounted to something really heavy. Without that, the vise or wrench will strip the tool or the tool will destroy your vise. Many people, me included, end up welding a wrench to the tool. According to my calculations, I eventually had to apply hundreds of newton-meters of torque, which is totally ridiculous.

Hi Do you know what the bearing sizes were you removed?? On mine it’s one size and 3 of another size
@AverageGuyBicycleMechanic
@AverageGuyBicycleMechanic 2 года назад
Hmm, this hub only uses 2 bearings and they were both 6902. The freehub body has three bearings in it though but I can’t confirm what those are but probably 15x26x7

Hi, axle and non-drive side bearing not coming out at all. Using a soft mallet, it won't budge. Ugh. Afraid to use more force, I removed the disc, using a support similar to yours but no go.
@AverageGuyBicycleMechanic
@AverageGuyBicycleMechanic 2 года назад
Henry, sorry to hear that. You have two options. The first is to keep at it - the bearing has to come out somehow. The second option is to knock the drive side bearing out first and then try and press the non-drive side out or using a socket, which has greater surface contact, knock the non-drive side out.

I ended up using the press to push the bearing out . Well worth the investment, buy a press. Saved me a lot of stress .

Is this the same procedure and bearing sizes for the front wheel? Thanks by the way!
@AverageGuyBicycleMechanic
@AverageGuyBicycleMechanic 2 года назад
Front hubs are much simpler. Basically just need to pull the end caps and knock-out/press out the old bearings and install new ones. I’m not sure if the front wheel uses a sleeve in between the bearings or, like the rear hub, an axle sleeve combo.

The freehub or the axle? If the axle - you might need to tap it out with the appropriate sized socket. If the freehub - try wearing a rubber glove for better grip. You can also wrap the freehub with an old inner-tube to help you get better leverage.
