A quick tour of my new dual boot setup on my Lenovo Legion Go. I think it's a very interesting way to run this pretty awesome device.
Unofficial guide used for to setup dual boot: universal-blue...
Note that there's a bunch of tweaks needed after installing bazzite for a good experience. I'll make a guide at some point with all the tweaks.

Note that it does take some tinkering to get the right settings for a good experience on Bazzite. I plan on eventually creating a tutorial video with all the tweaks I did to get a good experience on Bazzite.

can you make more videos about things in linux like 3d blender / coding / making a server from this device?

You've just made the Legion GO a better handheld by doing this. Congrats! I wish I could do this myself honestly this is badass!

Cool! Are the games in Linux running as good as they would do in the "original" SteamOS from Steam Deck?
@aru3
@aru3 10 месяцев назад
At lower TDP? nah, Steam Deck is king of low-TDP performance. But the Legion Go can crank up to 30W TDP, which means it can achieve higher peak performance (at the expense of battery life). As for performance differences between Bazzite and SteamOS, I personally haven't noticed anything, but I also haven't thoroughly tested.
@SilverCry93
@SilverCry93 10 месяцев назад
But shouldnt battery life still increase? I guess Linux doesnt require the same amount of power in the background as Windows does
@aru3
@aru3 10 месяцев назад
@@SilverCry93 Part of the problem with battery life on the Legion Go is that other components, like the high-res 144Hz screen, consumes lots of power. Even Linux can go down to much lower TDPs due to having less stuff running in the background, there's only so much the OS can do when you have power-hungry components, etc.

How do you get the keyboard to appear in desktop mode? If I. If you do that, you'll just get this ugly steam keyboard on the screen, which is also much too small.

Hello, why aren't you using rEFInd instead for dualbooting ? Seems much more convenient although I don't have the Go myself but it should work out of the box (it even has touchscreen support !)
@aru3
@aru3 10 месяцев назад
I kept it simple and followed the instructions from the bazzite documentation: universal-blue.org/images/bazzite/FAQ/#can-i-dual-boot-bazzite-with-windows

I'm running Bazzite on my Legion. Rather than dual boot, I grabbed a Samsung 256GB USB C Flash drive (MUF-256DA) that is rated for 400 Mb/s Read / 100 Mb/s Write and used Rufus to install Windows 11 to Go. Its a small drive that doesn't place any strain on the USB port, and is fast enough to not make running Windows a chore. I wouldn't game on it, but its good enough for doing firmware updates and such without having to mess around with dual booting.
@aru3
@aru3 10 месяцев назад
Oh yeah, that's totally a valid option. But the Dual boot setup for me works perfectly fine, especially since I installed Bazzite with it's own completely independent EFI partition (So Windows can't nuke it). Windows takes up 40GB on my minimal install, which is totally reasonable for what I plan on using it for.

How about FPS mode with that right controller? I don't think Lenovo did anything too funky with it, so it probably obeys basic HID conventions and works just fine, but I'm curious.
@aru3
@aru3 10 месяцев назад
FPS mode also works fine, albeit I haven't done much testing with it beyond flipping it on and seeing if it registers as a mouse.

Which Variant of Bazzite are you using for Legion Go?
@aru3

Bazzite Deck, but Bazzite Deck Gnome can also work fine. Note that there are tweaks required after the initial install for a good experience.

Bazzite is also Linux-based, it will have similar compatibility as SteamOS on the Steam Deck.

Can you also do a video on how you got Waydroid working?
@aru3
@aru3 10 месяцев назад
I will when I have some time, the only problem is that getting Waydroid working is very finicky. It might take some time to make a good guide for it.

How's the AAA game performance when comparing Windows 11 and bazzite? Are the drivers good enough on Linux to get the same fps?
@aru3
@aru3 10 месяцев назад
It really depends on the game, sometimes it's better in Windows, other times it's better in Linux. My rule of thumb is that performance is usually within 5 to 10% of each other, excluding extreme cases.
@ln836
@ln836 10 месяцев назад
@@aru3 gotcha. Would you say the same rule applies to emulation? And what about compatibility, ie starfield drivers released for Windows. Is there any kind of parity with driver support? Just trying to understand pros vs cons with Windows. So far pros with Bazille seem to be a better OOTB user experience once you set things up and tinker, a proper game suspend feature, possibly better battery life but not much. Cons are unclear as of now
@aru3
@aru3 10 месяцев назад
@@ln836 for emulation, I would say Linux is generally better, but same rule of thumb. Not much, of a difference excluding certain emulators like xemu, etc. drivers are all built into the OS, you don't need to install any drivers. As for cons, remember that this is not officially supported on this hardware, so you always have the possibility of encountering bugs and issues. There are still some outstanding bugs and issues that are still unresolved, I plan on going over them

Hi I am trying to have linux on my legion go too. Do you think ChimeraOS or Bazzite is better? From what I know, ChimeraOS does not support duo boot right?
@aru3
@aru3 10 месяцев назад
Both Bazzite and ChimeraOS don't officially support Dual Boot, but it's much easier to unofficially dual boot with Bazzite. Dual booting ChimeraOS is very difficult.

What is better Bazzite or Chimera OS?
@aru3
@aru3 10 месяцев назад
not better, different. ChimeraOS feels like a very streamlined game console OS that's very good at doing it's job. Bazzite feels more like a full blown power user's desktop OS with a console game mode bolted on the side. Depending on how you use your device, you may prefer one over the other

@@Driftwood420 hrm, this directly contradicts what is said in their FAQ. FAQ says: "Can I dual-boot Bazzite with Windows? Short answer: It's unsupported, but can work especially if Windows is on a different drive." Maybe it's just outdated documentation...

Yeah seems like the FAQ is outdated. They should really sort that. Most people aren't like me and read through release notes on github 😅
