To fix the GRUB prompt, select SysLinux for "Type" and your Kali boot partition for "Drive" when adding a new OS entry in EasyBCD. Worked for me.

This tutorial was FANTASTIC but I sadly had the GRUB error like many people...made me pretty sad BUT I can guarantee that the fix I am replying to (choose SysLinux for “Type” and your Kali boot partition for “Drive” HINT: just remember which partition it was that you set to /boot (the tutorial maker set his his to 2GB’s if you remember) ABSOLUTELY fixed the issue. I’M IN and you will be too!

Not sure why but when I used GRUB 2 I got a text only interface which I couldn't get into the desktop with. I changed it to GRUB (Legacy) and it worked. If you are having issues getting into Kali after using EasyBCD, give that a try.

Great tutorial if you don't want the mess up your mbr! Use Syslinux insted of grub2 if you get minimal grub...look down after Justin's guide!

Spent 2 days trying to get this to work. Disabled secure boot, enabled legacy boot options, disabled fastboot. Controller was set to AHCI....Issue was kali was installing but not entered into boot options for some reason. Had to update bios, then use 3rd party software to get windows to see GRUB boot option. Used "easyuefi", but there may be others,

Does the EasyBCD give you the EFI file detected prompt when you open it? If so ,Uninstall the EasyBCD. It will not work . You might need to start the whole kali linux installation process again. Remove/Delete the allocated partitions and make it unallocated with your chosen original space.Restart pc and install kali linux . When you get to the grub boot loader section, click yes to load the grub bootloader to the master boot record . Instead of writing dev/sda5 for the next argument , choose ´´DEV/SDA´´. Dont worry about the Windows Vista Loader. Once the installation is complete , restart your pc . Press the appropriate function key to move to the boot order section . DO NOT BOOT FROM OS Manager: UEFI or EFI file. Boot from the Hard drive (which might be the 3rd option) . The Grub bootloader will take over. You can boot Kali Linux from there. If you have any questions , dont hesitate to ask . Hope this helps. Dont forget to enable legacy boot and disable secure boot from the BIOS (boot order settings) configuration.

Some failed installations may be due to the Windows versions on individual PC's. If your system has all ready updated to Windows 11 12 13 or 14 you will not be able to do this process! The version still says Windows 10 there is no such thing as Windows 11 12 13 14 officially. But if one reads the Windows binary code in the windows logo one will realise that there are four big updates which are classed as Windows 11 12 13 and 14. If when you start your PC you still get the option of choosing an operating system on different volumes that this is still possible. If your PC just boots straight to Windows 10 then all the old Windows 7 and 8 Volumes are lost along with any chance of a duel boot of any kind!

For people who have trouble booting into Linux because of UEFI Windows installed: 1. Run EasyBCD on Windows 2. Go to "Add New Entry" tab 3. From there, go to "Linux/BSD" tab 4. Choose "GRUB (Legacy)" on "Type" option 5. Choose "Partition 4 (Linux - 2 GiB)" [The first partition you created during installation as shown in this video] on "Drive" option 6. Clik "Add Entry" button 7. Go to "Edit Boot Menu" and click "Save Settings" button Now your boot should be working for both operating systems. Thank me later.

If u cant boot into Kali and instead u r stucked on GRUB >, just restart the machine into windows, open EasyBCD and delete Kali entry. Then Add new entry, Linux, type:GRUB legacy, name, drive: choose the one, where u gotta /boot. Submit via Add entry, save, restart and it will work.

Good tutorial, but here's a thought, when running the "diskmgmt" command or any of those shortcut commands why not just go to "Run"---"diskmgmt" enter? Just a thought :)

Hello, I followed every step precisely from the beginning to the last step. Then I went to restart my computer to get the boot menu only for my computer to boot directly into windows 10 without the which operating system would you like to boot into menu. So I restarted it once more only this time where the boot logog for windows 10 now appeared a message reading; scanning and repairing drive c. Then it boots up to windows 10 once again. Please anyone who has successfully dual booted. Your help woukd be greatly appreciated.

Right click on the start button and open command prompt, type "diskmgmt" blablabla Guys just click "Disk Management" it's literally right there on the menu...or you wanna learn how to open it by using command prompt...

Everything is fine, but the problem is that the EasyBCD is not working properly with new Win10. It has a many features disabled in Community Edition and it's useless.
