Fantastic presentation. I've been very curious about the starting procedure and figured it was via compressed air.

Some use compressed air or a big leaf blower ... but this one has a mini motor :-)

I built an Gas Turbine engine from a T04 TurboCharger between 1999 & 2000 in engineering school, I have yet to make a video of it, but have demoed it at RC airshows & a local technical school fair & I can say that I wish I had access to what is now easily available today in this hobby field. BTW my turbine is setup, from the beginning, runs on Liquid Propane Gas, & the turbo was retrofitted with a ceramic bearing housing.

what facinate me is not how jet engines work, everytime i watch demonstration they say jet engines are simple, but how simple is it create a housing and turbine that barely touch each other , i mean we have a bicycle pump rated about 100 psi,and its a closed system, a jet engines compressor could achieve the same compression but in an open freely spinning one 😉

Hey, I hope you are doing well. I wanted to ask about what type of cranking motor and bearings are used in these model jet engines. A timely reply would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about the motor as it uses a bendix connection to link to the drive. The bearings are ceramic to handle the heat.

Muy bueno el sensor de vibraciones, vamos ahora los que usamos maquinas especificas para medir porque no hay otro modo de saber en rango se está, resulta que este señor para "ver" si vibra la turbina le sobra con tocarla..y mi pregunta es, que valor tenía?, porque eso lo se hacer yo también.Por cierto , el soporte es un quirófano de cables y conexiones, que quiere usted medir? presión de la bomba, presión de la cámara de combustión, quizás presión de salida de gases?, RPM, temperatura y poco más, porque solo veo que tenga un Fadec y unas electroválvulas y un montón de cables y tubos...para poner en marcha una turbina, con el fadec y su pantalla, ya tenemos RPM y Temperatura..quizás un manómetro en el cuerpo para medir presión y se acaba la historia...bueno falta el variador batería y bomba...muy chulo todo, pero para los profanos pueda parecer algo especial....lo que es muy especial es la botella de aceite de ¿girasol?...jajaja...expectacular.

GOOGLE TRANSLATE --> The vibration sensor is very good, now we use specific machines to measure because there is no other way to know in range it is, it turns out that this man to "see" if the turbine vibrates he has enough to touch it ... and my question is What was its value? Because I know how to do that too. By the way, the support is an operating room with cables and connections, what do you want to measure? pump pressure, combustion chamber pressure, maybe gas outlet pressure ?, RPM, temperature and little else, because I only see that it has a Fadec and some solenoid valves and a lot of cables and pipes ... to put in A turbine is running, with the fadec and its screen, we already have RPM and Temperature ... perhaps a pressure gauge on the body to measure pressure and the story is over ... well, the battery and pump variator is missing ... everything is very cool, but for the layman it may seem something special .... what is very special is the bottle of sunflower oil? ... hahaha ... spectacular.

Well, I have a turbine that gives a little more than 100kg of thrust, a 220mm diameter beast with a 150mm compressor and a 135mm turbine wheel, to start it I just have to hold it well to the test bench, connect the pump , ignition gas, and little else ..., the neighbors are already in charge of calling the police, because it seems that the noise bothers them a bit.

@@DubiousEngineering 408/5000 Well, the neighbors are not punished daily either, just a few times a year for a few minutes while I test a turbine. I have a Noellë 80 microturbo of French origin and I think there will be plenty of noise for everyone. the Noellë 80 was used as a starter for the Mirage III. Just out of curiosity, how do you do the dynamic balancing of your rotors? Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.

"only uses 18-20% of the air coming in" is that because air is comprised of 21% oxygen and all of that oxygen is used for combustion? Or is he talking about 18-20% of the 21% oxygen component coming in, so only 4% of the available air coming in is used for combustion.

@@DubiousEngineering I studied a lot in order to achieve a jet engine like that. To know than someone makes a compressor with wood still amaze me. Videos like that are always missing on YT, and this demonstration is made by passion and are so detailed. Some years ago, I would have kill for to found some content like that to improve my understanding of how it's work. The kindness is from you who make the effort to post this video.
