Dubai skyscraper scary paragliding launches 

Watching the guy assisting with the launches, so close to the edge with a makeshift rope around his waist. made me feel a bit squeamish.

love the position of the wind sock. Almost straight up. I don't think that rope on the launch assistant would work @2.40.

Anyone notice how the wind socks is pointing up. The building is just like a cliff, so it’s sketchy but not too sketchy from a cliff launch. Brilliant video 👍

A weird combination of convenience (elevators......, nice brush free launch area, helpers) but real sucky aerodynamics going on due to the way the launch pad projects over the edge.

Looks like good conditions! Was it possible to soar only the skyscraper or were there thermals elsewhere?

so clever and decend decision !!! was one with with trainer having several days with cliff launches - would never do it alone without having at least 4 people how could recover me and my glider if something went wrong the instructor told me " ok you are prepared enough to come here and launch on your own" - being several time at the dune of arcachon in France and practiced groundhandling really a lot -- tough i would never do a cliff start without instructor and a bunch of peole around even i do not get why these guys are using these gliders (except it is a competition) but the class of glider is not the right one in my opinion ... but maybe i am completely wrong

This is a novice launch in a hang glider. But I doubt those would fit in the elevator.

2:30 love the guy who has just a rope tied around his waist instead of a safety arrest system. If you happen to fall I'm pretty sure your dead before people can pull you back onto the flatform. Obviously safety standards in the middle East aren't very high. Just take a look at the building of the stadiums for the Qatar world cup. Over 6500 migrant workers have died building the stadiums

I'm not a know it all, BUT in this case I just want to say that I think this is extremely dangerous and should not be done. The people doing this are probably the kind of people that also have lots to say about practicing safety which is a bit hypocritical.
