Not only should Royal Chess Mall hire our video-friend as a Consultant, but specifically make him the head of their Product Development and Quality Control; AND, include a sales commission on every set sold which is enhanced by his input and attention to detail. I know for a fact that the set I just purchased from RCM was because of our friend here. Without him, RCM never would have made my sale.
This is THE BEST tutorial on the iconic 1950 Dubrovnik Olympiad IX set, and, the 60s/70s Dubrovnik II set. You Sir, saved me COUNTLESS hours of research, and led me to buy the perfect 1950 replica set for me - thanks to you getting involved with Royal Chess Mall; and, helping them get it more correct. THANK YOU!!! I think some people get confused because in interviews Bobby Fischer says the Dubrovnik 1950 is THE BEST set he ever played with; BUT, once he became a world-wide celebrity after 1972, he appeared on TV talk shows, LIFE Magazine, newspaper photos, and, even on the cover of the book: 'Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess', with his 60/70s Dubrovnik II set - also saying that set to be wonderful. Perhaps you should make a condensed 'Quick Guide' video which only explains the physical visual differences between the 1950 Dubrovnik Olympiad IX and the later 60/70s so-called: Dubrovnik II; which is so closely identified with Fischer; being the set he was also seen with by the public.
Thanks for your valuable feedback! I'm happy that I could help here. Yes that is completely true that about people are getting confused about Dubrovnik sets, I hope video can clarify things. Thanks for the proposition to make a video like that, I might do it also!
This is a great video! Thanks for the wonderful comparison of the various Dubrovnik 1950 options. I have the RCM pieces, which are nice, but I may add the Staunton Castle antiqued set as well. I really appreciate your guidance!
Great video, I would love a Bobby set myself. None quite near enough for me, even if they get the pattern down then we move on to the question of weight, Bobby famously favouring unweighted. I'd want Mahogany as well. Somebody should do it right. Outside of collectors, Bobby would be the biggest pull on having this set. I'm happy in the meantime with my Zagreb's.
This is a great video! Be careful what you buy online. I once bought a Dubrovnik replica from a company called ChessVilla in India that had absolutely atrocious knights. The eyes didn't line up, and some of the eyes were chipped into the nose; the front end of the mane was so huge they looked like unicorns, and two of the four knights had CRACKS in the wood! We started a correspondence, I sent them photos, and asked them to replace the 4 knights, and then stopped returning my messages. There were a bunch of other things not right also, felt that was not round, ripped and some did not cover the bottom of the piece of hung over the edge.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I would always recommend you to buy from trusted companies which already have a lot of reviews from the customers.
Thanks for the video. I wish I had seen this video before I bought the NOJ Dubrovnik set. 3:34 you mentioned House of Staunton 10 out of 10. 07:00 Staunton Castle also very nice. In your opinion, which one is most accurate to the original 1950?
I personally own a NOJ Minčeta Dubrovnik and the House of Staunton Dubrovnik. I must say the House of Staunton set is a complete joke compared to the NOJ set ! The Minčeta set just feels so good in the hand whole playing the weight of the pieces are distributed PERFECTLY, it makes it 10x more enjoyable to review your games and play with friends. It makes it that much more enjoyable ! All i have to say the house of staunton set is collecting dust !!
@@RandomChessTalk Nothing to do with entertaining. I am too OCD and looking for the best Dubrovnik Set. I stay with you on your journey. Greetings from Munic.
Just came across this video. A bit confused to which one is more accurate to the 1950 fisher set. Would it be possible for you to send a link to what you would get below 400 if you wanted the pieces to be a very close accurate representation of the 1950 fisher?
Thanks for your question. Fischer and 1950 are two different sets. For 1950 set I recommend company Staunton Castle, it is below 400 USD. And Fisher replica you can go with House of Staunton or Chessbazaar
@@RandomChessTalk What do you think about the Noj Fischer variant? I like the Noj knight the most and the colors of the pieces are better. Sadly they are booked out till end of 2025.
@@hansschmidt1888 thanks for the question. I think the Noj Fischer is awesome. All the pieces are accurate to the original, the only improvement can be done in the knight which actually looks pretty good, but if the central part of the horse body (looking from the profile) would be just a little bit wider it would be 100% score for the knight, and now is 95% 😀👍
