This video is two years old, but it is still valid. I have two Dubrovnik repros; one is an RCM's 50, and the other is a CB's 3. The first one has knights with a better profile and more symmetry, but I prefer the CBs. After I watched your video, I understood that you were working with them, which is why the set is so well-balanced and adequately sized. The knight's eyes are not symmetric, but even then, they look fantastic. Thank you very much for contributing to the chess sets' collectors community. I should concur with most that the late Dubrovnik chess set is the chess set of choice; it is playable and balanced and should outlast the rigors of frequent use and abuse because it has few weak points in its piece design.

Got this set delivered today. Very pleased but there is one issue. Several the chessmen rattle when you tap them down on the board. The weights are definitely loose. Shouldn’t happen with a brand new set. I’m not about to ship it back to India so I’ll have to fix them myself. Other than that, excellent set!

Nice review. I had to buy this today, and a box. My Dad had a Lardy set when I was growing up, and this reminded me of his set. We will play with this new set when he visits!!

Just ordered this set, but with mahogany stain. Been debating for weeks and doing so much research as to which one fit the bill. I think and hope I made the right decision. Now the delivery waiting game. Assuming a week since I’m in the USA.

I purchased the natural boxwood and ebony version of this same RCM Lessing set a little over 6 months ago. Beautiful and classic Staunton design. The design seems very similar to the Fischer-Spassky replica sets out there, but I think the knights and king are a little better. I can't help but wonder if the 1972 Fischer-Spassky was played either with a Lessing Staunton set or with a slightly modified version. On my set, I do wish there was a little more grain in the ebony pieces. At any rate, I enjoy these videos, and this is certainly one or my favorite sets!

I must say the knights are gaudy and horrible.

I do not think Bobby Fischer had anything to do with Dubrovnik. Bobby won the great tournament in Zagreb, 1970. Actually, half the games were played in the resort town of Rovinij and the rest in Zagreb. I have the tournament book! Hi, I hope you see this. On the rooooks, the cuts are called either slits or slots. Think about a real castle before gunpowder. You want your archers to shoot at the enemy with minimal risk.
