Day trips from Dubrovnik! There is so much to explore not only in Dubrovnik, but all around the area! Within 20km, you'll find Lokrum Island, Cavtat, and the Arboretum in Trsteno.
They are all super easy and quick to get to, and we highly recommend them all!
#1 Arboretum - about 20km north of Dubrovnik and is the oldest Renaissance garden in Dalmatia. It was developed by one family who loved greenery, flowers and plants from exotic destinations, so whenever ships would come from different parts of the world, they would always buy seeds to plant!
It developed into this beautiful, lush botanical garden! You'll also find a beautiful aqua duct and pond / fountain, which is a piece of art! It's made up of 14 arches that span across 70 meters, which brings the water to the fountain.
They also have a little olive mill where you can see how olive oil is made, and how it was done back in the day, by crushing olives with a large rolling stone in a big pit.
There is also one gorgeous look out point where you can see the Elaphiti Islands. I think this would be the perfect spot for a small, intimate wedding! It's such a picture perfect spot, it would be lovely!
Here you'll also find an Oriental plane tree that's 500 years old, and 50m tall. It's really incredible to see up close. Some branches are so large, that they needed a pillar to keep them standing.
#2 Lokrum Island - it's a beautiful little nature escape, just off the coast of Dubrovnik. You can get there by ferry (the ferries go very often and it's only about a 20 min ride).
What's really interesting about Lokrum Island is that there are peacocks and bunnies that roam freely around the whole island, so you'll surely see many of them if you decide to go there.
Lokrum is named after the latin word "akrumen" because of its ability to grow citrus fruit really well, like lemons!
There is also a very beautiful Benedictine Monastery on the island, which has a very interesting story. The monks who lived at the monastery used to warn Dubrovnik by smoke signal if they saw any threats arriving by the sea. In return, Dubrovnik financed the monastery.
One of the most beautiful spots on the island is the Dead Sea! It's right in the middle of the island, and it's a tranquil oasis, and so picture perfect! It's a real hidden gem!
#3 Cavtat - it's located about 20km south of Dubrovnik, and it's actually the southernmost city in Croatia. There's a beautiful little waterfront and harbor area in the center of town.
There were settlers here from the 3rd century B.C., until the 7th century A.D., and the settlement was called epidarium, and then in the 7th century, they moved to what is now Dubrovnik, and formed the settlement Raguza, which is actually one of the original settlements of Dubrovnik.
The population is about 7000, so it's quite a peaceful town on the Adriatic. The little alleyways and streets running up the hill are so picturesque!
The citrus fruit and the beautiful purple flowers contrasting with the grey stone, is also one of my favorite things about these streets!
Vlaho Bukovac's birth house is also located in Cavtat, and it's now a museum which you can visit. He is one of Croatia's most famous painters. The museum is an incredible place because all throughout the house, you can see his artwork all over the walls.
He literally painted almost all of the walls inside with different designs, which go up the staircases as well. The museum also shows some of his furniture and personal items as well. It's a really fascinating place, and highly recommended if you visit Cavtat.
At the top of the hill is the old town cemetery. There are fantastic views of the mountains, little villages, and the sea. In the middle of the cemetery there is a beautiful mausoleum of the Racic family. It was actually made by the famous Croatian sculptor Mestrovic. It was his first architectural piece and it's made almost completely out of white stone from Brac Island. The only part that isn’t made out of stone is the bronze door.
One last thing we discovered in Cavtat is the lovely promenade that lines the whole peninsula. It’s a great place for an evening stroll and to take in some breathtaking views!
The whole Dubrovnik region has so much to offer, but these are 3 little gems we found on our recent visit!

I’m currently here now it’s a beautiful town indeed, really nice food, fresh air and chilled environment but sadly a big chunk of the people here are not so friendly, even when you make the effort to speak Croatian they either just reply back to you in English, ignore you or just laugh and walk away. Anyway I haven’t let it stop me and will keep using the words I’ve learnt from your channel 👍🏿🔥

Hi, me again ;) I really enjoyed this video, I always love to experience my hometown through someone else's eyes :) you drove through Župa dubrovačka on your way to Cavtat, I was born there (in the tiny apartment block just behind that ugly shopping mall in the middle of Župa). I'm still amazed by the fact that someone from the West would like to settle in a country like Croatia. I guess you only see the positive sides :) And going back to the previous video I saw (on Croatian language), thank you for sticking with local pronunciation of toponyms even when speaking in English. "Dubrovnik" sounds much nicer when pronounced the right way, I never liked the way it sounds pronounced with English accent :)
@RoyalCroatianTours
@RoyalCroatianTours 3 года назад
Thanks Kristijan! Glad you enjoyed and that we could highlight your hometown :) And yes, I agree about the pronunciation of Dubrovnik! I like how it sounds much better this way, rather than with the English accent ;)

@RoyalCroatianTours 3 года назад

@dado4352
@dado4352 3 года назад
Nema ni najmanjeg dokaza za takvo sto. Također, nije ni logično da bi netko išao po kamen na drugi kraj svijeta, kada je Amerika prepuna kamenoloma. No, priča o "bračkoj Bijeloj kući" kruži i dalje.
