Ducati 200 Elite Engine Rebuild (Part 3) - Back to Classics
In part 3 of the video series on the engine rebuild of a 1960 Ducati 200 Elite, we focus our attention to the bottom end. The crankcases have already been prepared and you can see Harné fit the gearbox and crankshaft for the first time. With the inner parts all sorted and adjusted with shims, he also focuses on the lower bevel distribution which proved to be a lot of work in this instance.
We are now nearly done with this project. Be sure to like and subscribe to our channel to follow progress and get a notification when we have the engine ready in our next episode.

Great video, keep the ‘nerdy’ information coming. Love the detail.

Great video, but a little closer detail would be good on the shimming of the engine and assembling of gearbox. I've got a 175 Sport which I ride regularly but haven't had to do full engine rebuild on as yet. Should they be shimmed to just what feels right or actual tolerances with a dial gauge setup? When you do top end rebuild can you show how to fit rocker pins, and shim top bevels using jig clearly. 👍🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹

Great work, although for a 200cc engine the Elite does seem to make a compelling case for cam chains...!

Awesome video! I noticed with the crankcase halves that you installed your paper gaskets “wet” with a bead of some gasket material. Even after honing the mated surfaces, is applying the gasket wet a good idea?

We'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to oil leaks from the crankcase halves. That is why we also use a bit of silicone gasket on there.
