It's got the power to out-drag a Ducati 1198 and it can out-brake one too. So why is nobody racing the highly-acclaimed new Ducati Diavel? Well, several reasons actually, but thinking it through would have taken all the fun out of finding out.

gotta love Ducati! this is their idea of a cruiser and it kicks ass in everything (speed, looks, sound, handling, and just overall performance)

Rode a VROD for 9 years. Nice bike but I bought one of these this summer. No comparison! The Diavel kicks serious ass. I love it.

@spinball6 you say it right mate. Harleys have their ows target group. Not for track, not for B-roads! Easy riding and enjoying the scenery. No adrenaline whatsoever. No comparison whatsoever. Thank God motorcycle industry gives us, the consumers many many choices!!

Try THAT with any other "power cruiser." :) It's probably still not the best choice for the track, but you've got to admit that the thing handles incredibly well for the kind of bike that it is. Still a Ducati! :D

yes would like to hear from the rider... Wonder if those were at the limits of it's lean angles before it starts to drag hard parts? One day soon I might get off my 10 year old sport bike and get something different but would hate to lose the peformance.. this might be a good option

You are right...the Diavel and Multistrada are extremely comfortable. I can't imagine how far you could go on one. I have taken 400 mile day trips on sport bikes several times, and haven't felt anything different than on a Harley trip. Engine vibe in your hands afterwards...same on both. Its all about personal preference...guys like him obviously want their bikes to feel like a couch...I want my bike to be comfortable AND deliver some thrills when I feel the need. But to each their own I guess.

Yow buddy, I both have a Ducati Streetfighter 1098 and also a Nightrod. To be honest, whenever I hop on my Harley Davidson, I thank god that I have a Ducati :)

@goonballer The one that drives behind him is driving on a R6. So probably not to difficult to out-drag the diavel with a 1198 ^^

Actually they dont throw the timing off, its a single pin crankshaft, meaning both pistons are on the same crankshaft pin you get the sound by the pistons firing so close together, which also means it is impossible to balance, HD should offer a free trailer with the purchase of each bike, its where they usually end up.

That's exactly my point...they use a different system for their twins than everyone else in the market...and what does this setup cause? The unique Harley Davidson sound, which comes in tandem with decreased engine longevity compared to other manufacturers v-twin setups. They are choosing sound over performance...bad idea if you ask me.

Why argue between Ducati and Harley at a Ducati video? Diavel is a muscle bike. This track day proves nothing. It's not a race. The reviewer is just showing the bike's handling which is quite good, IMHO.

I think this is the guy that entered the diavel into a race full of supersports. He went through a puddle of oil from an accident some one had in front of him and wrecked the bike pretty severely.

it hasn't got the power to out drag an 1198, its got a low center of gravity and is very long so it can apply more power to the ground off the line but the 1198 still has more hp. Its a detuned 1198 engine.

*cough* Diavel has a 2nd seat but with a removable cowling over it. That's right, life isn't a race, it's a journey. And with your Harley it will obviously never be a race and will definitely be one LONG journey while you sit waiting for roadside assistance to take you home.

The Diavel has a full seat... you can choose to make it look better by keeping on the back seat cover... Cool your guns. We don't go fast to places to pass up life. We go fast to take in a different thing life offers known as adrenaline and curiosity. We ride fast to test our ability and our love for bikes. Now chill out and don't watch a video about a Diavel if you don't like them (I don't see how that's even possible, but whatever floats your boat).

how is it a sissy bike when even the smallest bike in the ducati lineup is probably quicker than 90% of harley davidsons? the diavel and multistradas are quite comfortable. i dont think ducati owners are pissed, I think they are laughing at you, and pity you. Harley's are expensive and have virtually zero desirable redeeming aspects about them (go ahead, name one!)

I think sound is simply heritage and obviously not technology since this set up is unchanged from the dawn of time, I mean dawn of harley davidson. I'd have to disagree with the longevity part though because there are LOTS of ultra high mileage HDs on the road from what I've seen. Not miles like you'd see on the bigger bmws but usually well over 25,000 miles. I know most everything out there today can do 100k miles but most wont see past 10k miles due to the owner lol.

@Plutonas78 It really depends on the rider,go to my channel and have a look at my video called 996 ducati holds up H-D fxdl.If I had a bit more grunt [it is stock except pipes and breather kit]I would have passed him in the straights and left him behind in the twistie bits.

@BKingAndy mate if you find me a cruise bike that can go that fast on track, then I rest my case. Am pretty sure though that you wont! Don't compare different bikes mate! Next time you will tell us that the scooter T-max is a nice bike but it's not fast!

I didn't see a drag race, so no. The 1198 has more power and is lighter, so obviously it's faster overall. The diavel can probably launch harder from a stop though with that huge rear tire, so it will possibly out DRAG the superbike.

I would prefer more talking in the video explaining what it was like to ride rather than just the lap. Just seeing the lap on it's own doesn't mean anything.

And this is the response you get from someone who can't take criticism. If you must know...I am 27, I have owned 4 motorcycles and ridden over two dozen. I have experienced almost every bike imaginable. In the experiences, I have determined that there aren't many likeable qualities about Harleys compared to other manufacturers. Get over yourself...you can be a fanboy...but don't get delusional.

Ok...1. They decrease engine longevity to make that sound, by purposely throwing the engine timing off. No thanks. 2. Why are you riding a motorcycle for a stereo? Priorities... 3. Comfort...good sitting still, but how comfortable is lugging 700 pounds all day? 4. Wrong sport riders in your area. 5. LMAO 6. Torque? In comparison to HP a HD makes...yea the torque is pretty high. Still not enough. 7. Cant compare cruiser looks with sport looks...different worlds. 8. All that support for a reason.

Not sure what all the Harley hate is about. Anyone with half a brain knows that Harleys were not built to do this and if you compare them too this or try to do this, your an idiot. They appeal to a completely different rider and riding style. You do not take your Cadillac Escalade to Laguna Seca, you take your Ferrari.

Am I the only one noticing that they put their asses off the bike to corner, but keep their upper body above the bike? according to themselves (MCN), you are supposed to have your head on the outside of where your mirrors would be when hanging off the bike...

You forgot to mention how to ride a harley typically you have to be fat, over 40, and have a big beard or a girl on the back who has a face that looks like dried out leather. Ducatis are sexy.
