Is is better than my Tuono, no. Is it an amazing machine, yes. I might be biased however ;) Please go check out battley.com because they are some of the coolest dudes out there! Thanks for watching, Duke
I just picked a 2016 Monster 1200 R with only 1000 miles on it. I've owned a 2011 Monster 796 and a 2014 Monster 1200 base model. This one is by far the best of the pack. The power band is is amazing and the torque is scary fun. I love this bike.
The engine of this bike actually is from a supersport. The same supersport that the diavel got it from, the 1198. That was their top-shelf supersport before the Panigale V2 came around.
It's actually really annoying the engine is anemic on the low end until you remove/disconnect the exhaust choke flapper valve. I removed mine and it made the engine so much snappier down low.
late in the game, but what bike if you had the choice would you get between the 2019 MT 10 or Monster 1200 S? I'm ready to buy, but I like to hooligan and in town riding and having a tough time deciding. Does the monster wheelie in 3rd?
"put me in urban mode, so I don't destroy myself..." Welp I guess the video ends here... No wonder you didn't like it as much as your Tuono (judging by your youtube description...)
Noice xd I actually made a 3D/MES frame model from Monster 1200 to make my bachelor degree xd I used to be like: V2 sound? Jizz. Now I'm like: V2 sound? Meh...V4 POWAHH!!!11111oneoneone xd but the bike is a beauty :) Oh, and the colours are RAD xd
+Mateusz Nowicki That's awesome man! 3D modeling has always been something I've been interested in. Before I bought the drone, I was going to buy a MakerBot
Awesome review! How was the handling and weight Vs your Tuono? If you add a quick shifter and upgrade the exhaust on the Monster you're well over $20k! Not sure it's worth the premium price for a naked bike.
+PistolPete63 Weight and handling were a little lighter and more responsive than the Tuono IMO. It is a very expensive competitor, and at the end of the day, if you get a lot of the "add-ons" as standard on the competition, then it becomes a difficult choice.
+VeeFour Oooo yeah that is one fine ass piece of engineering beauty. I don't know that I'll ever see one in person, which is sad. Not a lot of MVs over here.
I may have missed it in the video. Do folks know the price of this bike? It sure is purty!! (I checked on the Ducati website and clicked all over the place, but couldn't find the bike prices..maybe I'm a dummie.)
hi duke, i´m from germany and i love to look your vids. great moto vlogs. i will ride the monster 1200 r next week and also the bmw s1000r , but i have a question to you :) what do you think, which bike is better?
Hey Duke. If you haven't already done so, how's about a review of the new R1?? I sat on one this weekend but dealer doesn't allow test rides. Would love to get your opinion.
+Stu Collins Would love to take out the new R1!! That thing looks and sounds amazing. I am however going through the same issues you are with dealerships not having demos around here :(
Generally I find Monsters the best looking nakeds, but the water-cooled engines are a plumbers delight on the left side. Somehow other manufacturers like Aprilia can manage making water-cooled engines with the piping integrated, but it's just hideous on the new Monsters. Now the older air-cooled Monsters like the 1100evo, sublime.
Yeah, it's tough to nail everything on a bike and keep the costs relatively low to the consumer, however there is little excuse for Ducati here as this is the most expensive SuperNaked
DukeOfDC Kinda seems like they half-assed this generation of engines, retrofitting the water-cooling. Hopefully the next gen will be up to Ducati beauty standards, or like the XDiavel, more covered up.
It’s a lot of power and a pretty huge difference across the board, but as long as you’re confident in your skills, then yes. In some ways it will be easier to ride than the WR
You're definitely not being biased, Its a great bike but it doesn't quite compare to the Tuono v4, the TV4 is just faster and has more refinement, Torque is good but my older 999s has better torque, in lower rev range. But.. Its all up to the rider I guess, If i were to ride bigger distance more often then I may be swayed the the Monster
+MotoDesmo Yeah, after I jumped off this and back onto my Tuono for the journey home, it just felt right. The Monster is great, but not for me. Not yet at least. I'd take the S1000R for a long distance trip on a SuperNaked. Cruise control baby haha
DukeOfDC Thanka man. I was leaning the same way. However, it is so hard to find a used 2016/17. I have been eyeing LaMoto to see if they will have any 2016 leftovers for a great deal but no luck so far. Will keep looking through this winter. I am located near Philly.
I would email Steph at La Moto and specifically ask her. She's amazing, and could possibly find you a leftover 2016 from another dealership that could then be shipped to La Moto.
DukeOfDC lol well that’s kinda sad. It’s one of the most distinct things about the Monster and most Ducatis in general. I mean... wouldn’t most bike enthusiasts already know that about the Monster anyway? I know it... most bikers know it... but you didn’t, and didn’t even notice after looking at it for ... how long? Yeah, still baffled. Have a good one!
great review im thinking of the R . i used to drive a zx10-r but looking for something more comfortable. could u tell me how fasssst is it when compared to the litre sports bikes
It's much more of a torque monster down low, but I would wait another year to see if they put the DVT twin in the 1200R because it would drastically improve this bike. You will notice a big difference in the top end power initially, but the torque is what makes twisties and around-town riding really fun.
+DukeOfDC not many twisties around here just lots of straight open roads and lots of gsxr1000 would like blow their socks off from a standstill or while cruising . I can't crouch on sports bikes any more but I sure miss the accellaration
+DukeOfDC I did actually but the ducati looks much too cool and the wow factor is unbeatable. the top end doesn't interest me I'm all about fast acceleration
Christian Vere The price is a huge factor for me as well. It's hard to justify when the competition is so stiff and other, arguably better bikes are cheaper
+Zim Killgore The styling is on point! I would wait until they upgrade the engine from the old Diavels to the new DVT because then it would be a torque monster. I imagine they'll upgrade the engine in the next year
