In the latest video, we return to the 2021 Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled I bought brand new in January 2021. Stay tuned to see if the bike is reliable or not, and what the maintenance and cost of ownership is like. I'll also recap what I love about the bike, and what I'd like to see changed!

I ve had my 2022 DS for 3 months now and love it! I was nervous to watch this video based on the title of the video but agree 100% with your impressions. Yes its more expensive to own than Japanese bike but I didnt buy this bike to "save money"! Ha! ...and so far I have had ZERO issues with the bike. I have two other bikes right now: 2018 Kawasaki Z900RS and a 2021 Kawasaki KLX 300 Dual Sport. I will be selling the KLX-300 now that I have the Ducati. Im 55 years old, out of shape (but working on it) and my hard core dirt bike days or behind me. The Desert Sled is the perfect bike for me. I put a Sargent saddle on it and now I can ride all day, burning up the country roads and hitting the occasional trail in comfort. Not as fast as my z900rs but I spend more time on the DS because it is so much fun, handles great, has a "mojo" about it, and has no bad manners. :)

I have to use a little bit of "RU-vid word trickery" to get the views in, but i absolutely do love my bike! Yes, you definitely understand it than, it's more than worth the cost of entry for this bike! I definitely agree selling the Kawasaki is the way to go, this bike can take the role of that no problem. I've had several people recommend the Sargent seat, I think I need to invest in one. Thanks for watching, and enjoy it and be safe out there!

@@BrunerTuner you're forgiven 🙂...it's just a shame that GooTube has figured us humans out...a person thinking about buying a DS is far less likely to read a positive caption than they are a negative one, because the fear of making a bad decision is a powerful emotion

Great video!! Man, when I bought my Tiger I was very tempted to head on down to AMS to buy the Desert Sled….but knew I wanted to do some long distance touring. That’s basically the only thing that held me back! I’ve already put 6000 miles on the Tiger and I’ve had it since the middle of May or so!! And yea, “Wind Therapy” is a must now a days!!
@BrunerTuner

Thanks so much for watching man, really appreciate you! I definitely get that, just glad you ended up with the bike you enjoy being on! The tiger is an absolutely sweet bike, would love to have a go on one someday. The best bike is the one you get out and ride! Agreed, stay safe out there and enjoy it my friend!

This felt more like a review than it did an 18-month follow up. Talking about suspension specs and how it rides or whatever It's pretty much what every reviewer writes. I was hoping for more content of where items maintenance and how it feels to ride everyday once the new bike feeling is worn off
@BrunerTuner
@BrunerTuner Год назад
I talk about in the video how there weren't any maintenance/wear items I needed, except an oil change. If you could see the stats that we have on our side, you'd see that most of the audience watching are new viewers. I get questions all the time about the bike, so I put that information out for them. Nothing new under the sun with bike feel/reliability, so why not inform new comers that want to know more about the bike?

ah yes finding neutral! I have that issue on my BMW 650 and previously on my Guzzi 850, Ducati are not alone!
@charlesbauer3615
@charlesbauer3615 2 года назад
All of my Ducati's are easier to get neutral while rolling to a stop. One of mine will only do that or it has to be off. 🤔

I have an 02 Ducati monster 750SIe. I’ve had to replace the fuel filter, clutch slave cylinder, regulator rectifier and the belts. I was able to do the work myself. I’ve held off doing the shim work cause that could be very expensive. Possibly almost as much as I paid for my bike. Got a great deal on it used. I’m concerned getting another Ducati due to the cost of the upkeep. Every oil change I do is over 100 bucks. That’s just for the oil and the filter. Again, I’ve been doing all my work. The desert sled has my eye though.
@BrunerTuner
@BrunerTuner 9 месяцев назад
Remember sure how much the 750 shares with the 803, but I think it's largely derived from the same architecture. It's expensive to have someone do the oil changes, like $400 on this bike, so I definitely do it myself. Parts haven't been too expensive, but God help you if you have to pay the dealership to do something.
@ickess
@ickess 9 месяцев назад
I hear that! I found a local shop that’s capable with ducatis but isn’t a dealer. They ordered the belts and had put tires on it for me. My hesitation with the desmo shimming is that It has the potential to be really bad if I screw it up.
@BrunerTuner
@BrunerTuner 9 месяцев назад
@ickess absolutely, I'm scared of that job myself too..but I've had people tell me they did it themselves and it wasn't too bad. I've done full timing chains etc. and engine teardown on a Nissan vq35de so I feel like I could probably do it..but still scary. I bought a shop manual this year, so stay tuned to see more because I'll try to do more work myself.

Thanks so much! Yes, it's awesome that we have this passion, we're actually going on a ride to Oklahoma next weekend! I don't generally for light off roading, but when we were at Moab I did adjust it a tad to be softer, and lowered the tire pressure!

@@BrunerTuner I’m trying to find out for myself the best all-round setting for 70/30 road/ off-road. I have tried different settings and although it is a personal preference I’m curios to know what pre-load you have on the rear shock measured in mm (from base to spring) and how many turns the dampening is, if you have in mind?

My input as a designer of injection molds and what I’d have drawn up for Ducati. Just a few simple things could’ve made removal of the mesh filter, and thus, an oil change, routine!!!! In no particular order: • Design Option #1: Route the exhaust about an inch lower, thus allowing enough clearance for mesh filter removal. Lose some ground clearance yes, but not that big a deal for most riders. Design Option #2: Reposition the mesh filter in the crank case. Duh Design Option #3: Make the mesh filter diameter smaller, thus possibly creating enough clearance for removal. Design Option 4: Eliminate the actual need for a mesh filter. Jesus, I can’t believe they pay engineers at Ducati for this BS!
