The Triumph is a nice styling exercise. But the mighty Desert Sled! I love this bike for 2 reasons: It's dead serious and in that regard a real alternative to the dualsports. And the looks! Can't help but finding the Desert Sled one of the most beautiful bikes on the market.

I’ve popped some Dank Woolies on my street scrambler, and I’ve been ran off the road and had to jump the curb with no other issues than bending my front rim a little. I’ve had it off road on everything from loose gravel roads to single tracks and spent all day touring on it as well. I’ve found it’s super comfy and pretty capable on and off road. Even with all that said I like the benefits that the Ducati has.

Hi Yammie Noob Thanks for your vid, i liked it! it makes me feel like buying the ducati right now. HOWEVER, and whenever i see vids with guys like you (and with great explaination) YOU JUST NEVER OR SIMPLY ALWAYS FORGET TO TALK ABOUT THE KICKSTARTER. (if there is or is not one on the bike). To me! it is not a simple extra feature but almost a must especially for an off road machine. Just a pure stupid illustration: when out with my scooter if the battery is weak or whatever is the reason having my kickstarter has avoided me calling any road assistance many times! So could you in the future, mention the absence or presence of that feature. i really think that will help us evaluat a bike againt another one. thanks, take care Farid

As much as I like the looks of the triumphs. It looks like they think, " I'll take the same frame, same engine,same suspension etc, call it something else. By throwing different pipes, little more aggressive tires and like you said, a plastic skid plate. And poof! You have an adventure bike. NO! you don't. Now, the Ducati. You put all those true off road features on it and add turn signals, and other road necessary features on it,,, and it's street usable. Triumphs are sweet, no doubt. But don't call it a scrambler by tossing it a few off road tidbits.

I like Triumph's and agree about needing a higher state of tune. There is a company in the UK that sells a hotter cam shaft for the 900 and 1200 twins. Get rid of the CAT and add high flow mufflers. Maybe a clutch spring upgrade. BTW own a 2013 TEX 1200 and a 2014 Bonneville America LT

Well consider me your hero then. Key West to Prudhoe Bay Alaska, and then back to New Orleans on the Street Scrambler. Dalton Highway, plenty of off-roading in the desert, etc. But yeah, the Desert Sled is way better off the road, easily. Don't forget Henry Crew took one around the world. The 1200 XE will be my next Triumph. I love my Street Scrambler and it won't be going away, but I need sometime more aggressive off-road. First serious rock steps and I decided I won't be doing that again. Good thing I got a beefy skid plate...

The Desert Sled is more offroad-ready, right off the showroom floor. The aftermarket supports the Triumph 900 well enough with suspension, power parts, and weight-shaving though. Scramblers used to be built, rather than bought anyway, and some Triumphs look REALLY nice too. Strip some weight, then swap on some taller, long-travel, fully-adjustable boingers. As an aside, i think it's hilarious that the little Leoncino Trail 500 I just got my wife has 50mm USD forks. They aren't long-travel or adjustable though.

Although i barely go off road, I like that there is some ability for that. I haven’t had the find neutral problem, but have 2 dislikes. Sounds like the sled is a good choice if you are inclined to hooliganism and want a streety, cool sounding dual sport look, feel and riding experience. The Triumph would be a good choice for a three season commuter and/or weekend road tripper in the NE, where the roads suck in the spring and are under construction all summer. Also probably has better baggage options. Backpack commuting sucks.

It's funny you bring up being unable to get into neutral. When I had the Urban Enduro I found it was imposible sometimes to actually get down into 1st from 2nd, or vice versa, where it'd get stuck in neutral for either an additional click (if that would even work) or sometimes requiring taking out a bit of clutch/rolling/throttling to get it to click into gear. Admittedly I'd rather be stuck 'in' a gear rather than neutral, but still....such a strange gearbox.

Which part of this triumph screams that it can hand's off road? It's fat, it's heavy, it's too low and it doesn't have the suspension capable of doing off road. This comparison is essentially moot.
@haroldshull6848
@haroldshull6848 2 года назад
Hard to find neutral? Back-in-the-day we'd do what we called 'break the clutch' before we even started the engine. Put it in gear and with the clutch lever squeezed to the handlebar, rock the bike back n forth until the clutch sticktion breaks free. Now you're ready to go. When you come to a situation that dictates a full stop, click it into neutral before you are stopped by 2 to 5 feet. Your previously 'freed' clutch won't drag you through the intersection as you look for neutral. Love your videos, I have a Desert Sled, and started dirt riding with a '67 TR6C.

A little confused about some of the things you say. The top 2 middleweight ADV bikes are the T7 and KTM 790/890 and both of those are roughly the same weight as the Ducati. Does the rear shock not bother you when standing on the sled? Drove me nuts when I've ridden them. Don't like how my leg is trying to grip the bike right on the rear shock. Weird ergos. Definitely would choose it over the triumph scrambler, though.

The Desert Sled is great fun and looks great. But if you want to make a real stretch on and off road, get an adventure bike: KTM adventures, Honda CRF/African twin and last but certainly not least Yamaha Ténére which I am gonna get. These bikes ^ are good for lifestyle but will give you not the same as an adventure tourer, same money though.

Cabarella rally 500 is a better choice as far as a scrambler goes! These 2 are not dirt worthy

Not really the correct comparison. Regular Ducati Scrambler vs Street Scrambler makes more sense. The 1200 scrambler vs the Sled

I have a Monster 796 with the same engine. Love the sound and torque. My Monster is extremely viby, is your scrambler super viby? Why don’t you have mirrors? Is that allowed in Tx?

I also face the temptation of the sled. Had one for almost a year but I drive like it's my first day

The Street Scrambler is not really as much of an off-road bike as the Ducati Desert Sled. I tested both. To me, the Triumph has the retro look of the original scramblers, which I prefer. The Ducati looks like a dirt bike. Both are fun, but you really have to know what you want. What do you think of the Ducati Scrambler 1100 vs the Triumph Scrambler 1200. BTW, you have to get the accessory adjustable Fox shocks for the Street Scrambler.

@YammieNoob sorry to say but you should have compared the Triumph scrambler XE or XC to the Ducati Desert Sled. I'm in the market for a scrambler and it's between those three. Any suggestions y'all? I'm leaning toward the Desert Sled.

I have a question... as a somewhat newer street rider (I have a lot of off-road under my belt) I find myself far more comfortable in the left side of the lane for 2 reasons... #1... if a car wants to pass the slow driver behind me... he may not see me if I'm trudging along in the right side of the lane. Yet, you seem to be very comfortable over there and spend a lot of time there. #2... if I'm riding at night and a car with a burned out driver's side light is approaching me... depth perception becomes a real problem. So... I like to position myself such that I appear to be a car with a burned out passenger light. This removes the "OMG is the driver's side of that approaching "car" partly in my lane?" factor. What is your reasoning for hanging in the right side of the lane?

The Triumph is a scrambler in styling only. Yeah they used to do hill climbs and other foolishness back in the day but the biggest bike Triumph had was a 650 and often 500 singles were often chosen. I've owned several original Triumphs and BSA motorcycles. It's just stupid to think of a 1200 Triumph on the dirt.
