A suggestion: pour some oil into the filter before you install it. Not so much there's oil on the floor before you get it snug on the engine, but enough to get oil pressure before a dry filter fills up.

Great trick with the 5mm and 6mm allen key to check belt tension. Thanks for that. When you said full DESMO, I thought you were going to do valves. :D That's what I came here for but good to learn that allen key trick.

Good video, just few notes if I may: - I would lock the valve pulleys with the appropriate tool before removing the belts - I would measure the chain tension with bike on side stand as per manual. - 15w50 oil is a better option for these engines, less strain on gears.

Thanks for simply demystifying the process. I just trades for a 2015 in the same boat. It had the belts and valves done at 10k miles but it's been sitting for four years with no use, so I want to put fresh belts on it just to cover myself.

Tips, pre set the belts then just rotate a few times to bed in and recheck. Next, you set the chain whilst on the stand, this doesn’t allow for for sag and travel. Do it on the side stand and set slightly slacker than you’d think, makes getting neutral easier.

Great video man. Always wanted a ducati scrambler but was intimidated by timing belt and fear of tough maintenance but this doesn't look too difficult actually as for the timing belts and oil change.

Looks like maintaining it is straight forward. I don't know much about Ducati motorcycles. I wondered what those belts were for. I have a Yamaha 1100 V Star. Changing the oil filter on that bike requires the removal of the front exhaust pipe and muffler. The only thing I don't like about my bike. I use Amsoil 10w40. I'm getting older and don't put many miles on it like I used to. I wish you nothing but safe travels on your bike.

sparks plugs don't need replacement at 2000 ml, your airfilter is like new, but ok, it's not expensive. on a bike, brake fluid need replacement each year.

@urbanstreet_4282

I had the same issue with my nightshift. The clutch lever can be adjusted. I had it adjusted so that I could no longer pull the lever far enough and therefore no longer came into neutral. So simply turn the cog on the lever.

They don’t recommend doing it that way anymore that I know of, recommended to tune the belt to a frequency when you pluck it like a guitar. Models vary but 140-145hz. Just get a tuner app to check.

@@Jerod_Helt I recently bought 2017 Scrambler Icon in Thailand with total run about 1200 km. The seller told me to change oil at 3000km. A few days ago I visited official service and asked them about oil change. They offerd me a service for about 500$, which includes: annual service(35$), SMARTservice 30000km-01(278$), drive tooth belt (122$), filter air (25$), brake and engine liquid (32$). There is also a list of materials: oil shell 15W-50, oil filter, oil gasket (1), open shim valve (4), close shim valve (4), c-ring (8). The bike is really like new (though it's 2017 year model). I usually drive 60-80 kmph, and I never drive faster than 90 kmph What kind of service is really reasonable to do now when the total run is 3000 kilometers? Will appreciate any advice very much, that's my first motorcycle and I don't know much about them:(
@Jerod_Helt
@Jerod_Helt Год назад
I don't have enough experience with these bikes to say what the maintenance requirements should be, but there is a lot of information from experienced people online if you do some research. I feel like they charge very high prices for very basic maintenance and they have convinced people that "special" tools are required to do these basic tasks. This scares people into paying the high prices rather than doing the work themselves, or going to a cheaper mechanic. They also make it impossible for anyone but a dealer to clear the maintenance light on the dash, so even if you do the work yourself you still have that stupid light on.
