Something I really need to ask about is how do you stop in an emergency? The American roads give a much clearer view than what you would find in the UK. Loads of parked cars on narrow roads here. Would I just grab the handbrake and lock the rear tires?
I don't know how it shifts gears, but you could try with quickshifter for them hill rides...both hands on the steering wheel and faster shifts...you can push it a bit more, and enjoy some more adrenaline rushes :D.
“Even if need a new engine It’s not a big deal”! What?!!!! New engine cost $4000 at least with parts and labor . More than a cost of the whole jeep!!!!
I arrived on Guam in the fall of 1965. I graduated H.S. from there in ‘68. The S6 was sold on Guam, and I intended to purchase a new 1968 model and have the military ship it back stateside (for free). It didn’t happen. The chain drive did not meet Federal Regs. I have ALWAYS half a hole in my soul for missing that opportunity.

Like you I have a 356 and a vs beetle. Few weeks ago started considering a ford T sedan like yours. Thank you for the ride and information on a previous video. Ken
Muy bien explicado el vídeo! Un coche muy bonito e interesante, muy distinto de conducir de cualquier vehiculo moderno pero creo que con tus explicaciones podria conducirlo!!! :)
First video of yours that I ever watched was your oil change / drive to beach 912. Haven't checked in here for a very long time. So, it's funny that I finally check in, and your latest video is same again, but with the 356. (that was such a great project series) You're like the zen of oil change. Always great to see Walter
Hey is there by any chance that you will be building another motorcycle engine swapped car in the future. Would you like to try and beat Gordon Murrys Rocket cars weight record of 380 kg using a tube steel chassis exactly like the rocket car but with a KTM 1390 or 1290 (or a motus 1650 engine u could install an A/C ) engine as it has a semi dry sump engine. With a body from a lotus 49. And as a suggestion are you open to having a side to side dash mounted shifter (i.e left upshift to right down shift ) with the clutch mounted on the shifter lever to increase shift speed and clutch relase smoothness.
When you're not an automobile upholsterer, a job like that, if it's not 100% perfect, it's really not far from it. saddler being a profession, and totally manual, I think that in the United States, it is like in France, quite expensive, manual work and know-how must be adequately remunerated. Note that the seats seem comfortable, given the roads of the time and the absence of shock absorbers on the suspension, well done! 👍
The mechanical design was clever and already very advanced, the interior of the habitacel was quite complicated, as was the wooden roof, otherwise, how can you be a mechanic, bodybuilder, carpenter and automobile upholsterer at the same time: well done
really beautiful work, I would like to have part of the heritage of the USA. (I am in France) but let's also salute the companies, workshops which still supply some spare parts, it is certainly not of great benefit, but it is participating in the American automobile heritage. Buying a Model T in France is not easy and expensive. Bringing one from the United States in a container must be very expensive as well.
I discovered the mechanics of the Ford T, I saw that the engine had three bearings, whereas in France often at that time engines only had two, which twisted the crankshaft a little, which made a strange noise, we say in French that he was pounding "as for the gearbox, I hope we will see that later. Very good series, thank you. Even if it is not recent it doesn't matter I take a lot of pleasure in look.
I think it would be MUCH quieter if you reworked the engine location by flipping it around and lowering it a solid foot or foot-and-a-half to make it a rear engine that fits neatly in the trunk. Then you could have storage where the engine currently is, or even make space to allow you to recline the seats a little.
IDEK how to find old small cars like this that aren't rotted out for a fair price. I love this project, but I'd have made it rear engine with a lower placement, de-Dion axle rear suspension, and most importantly correct the shifting direction. Pushing forward to shift up is so gross. It screams cheap manu-matic car like a friggin modern Fiat 500 or something. Eugh. All sequential cars are pull back to shift up and push forward to shift down. It makes sense and feels right, and the G-forces from acceleration and deceleration "help" the movement. That's about the only real gripe besides those headlights, though. They aren't ugly, I just know the beam pattern will suck, especially for other drivers. A retrofit would've been better.
Wow,are you a professional mecanic? Cant imagine myself doing that. Have a project right now with a smll old car for my daughter, but not at that level!!
How you don't even have 40k subs is beyond me. Kids these days rather watch some id!ot mutilate a Mclaren, while tricking them into leaving comments and selling them cheap food replacement drinks, than watching someone literally bringing history back to life. This project is unique on the whole platform. Your down to earth approach is really appreciated after all this generic stuff that confirms so nicely to this palatable RU-vid mould.
