this is more of a response video as I've had a few questions on how I paint my figures over the years and a few recently on these figures specifically so instead of writing out everything I thought I'd make a video. I'll aim to do this for most things I do in future.
A wee disclaimer: I don't claim to be the font of all knowledge when it comes to painting but I think I paint to a not bad standard and I enjoy painting. There are plenty of far better figure painters than me about sp this is just how I do mine.
I hope it will be of interest and maybe a bit of help to someone starting out.
All the best!!!

Very interesting vid Paul. It was Nick/British Legion who started the Cavalry Brown obsession! ☺

Ah, so it was Nick and his many projects, stands to reason he would have a handle on many colours.

😊 thanks Dread, my old trusty paint I struggle to find. Citadel boltgun metal/chainmail and mithril silver black lid. Difficult to find now.

Thanks Paul, really appreciate you taking the time on these things. The combinations are really useful as I really seem to lack an eye for making the colour combos myself.

Thanks very much Rich, I hope it's of use to someone in some way. I really enjoy painting figures, it can be quite daunting at 1st. I feel the same myself every time i jump from ww2 to napoleonic figures or back the way trying to work our where to start off again.

Thanks for sharing Paul! Always interesting to pick up a few new ideas and also find we used many of the same paints. :-) I'll echo that the Andrea color sets are great. One of my mates uses the crap out of cavalry brown, seems time for me to get on board I guess as those muskets look great. Got all my Poles laid out last night watching the hockey game. My primed Prussians are grumbling, but either way I need to get going on my Nappies. Too many other projects have gotten in the way. Look forward to seeing your progress, then I can just copy you and Tim. Ha!

Good to hear Jason, yeah I figured most of us would have similar set up with paint. I'm trying to make good headway on the poles so I can allow myself to purchase some calpe Prussians. 😊 I already have 3 battalions of 24.

Sorry Paul, we need subtitles lol. Great instructional video mate. I love the vibrancy you bring to your figures and the precision that you have in applying the paint is a great lesson to all. Now I need to stop watching videos of Murawski Miniatures as they are very tempting.

Really interesting to see your process. Sort of validates my own one to see people I look up to are doing similar things. Fan of Cav brown myself, but as a base for red.

Very nice video figures look very nice.Much the same system as myself.Prime figure then flesh and highlight then block in.Ivory good as a base for the white then maybe off white then finally maybe a small dab of pure white.Yes brown before gold always works well.You are right Napoleonics do take time to reach the end product but well worth the effort.🐻🤗👍
@provjaro
@provjaro 3 года назад
Thanks Karen, good to hear I'm I good company with my colour selection and process, its interesting the amount of people who leave flesh to the very end, even blocking it in. I think that's the barrier to many who start napoleonic figures then give it up. The initial blocking in colours can look poor ad they really only come to life when we put on the next steps. Unlike say scifi or ww2 that looks the part straight away.
@kitswithkaren5003
@kitswithkaren5003 3 года назад
@@provjaro yes you get half way and think they look awful but keep going despite this.My thought is flesh first then block which is like dressing the figure.I think one needs to cover as much of the primer as quick as possible.This gives you the added impetus to finish the figures.Theres nothing more discouraging than painting for 4 or 5 hours and not really seeing a result for your efforts.🐻🤗👍
@provjaro
@provjaro 3 года назад
@@kitswithkaren5003 yes and if I have to leave figures over to another painting session I like to have awkward areas that show no progress further forward so when I come back I get spured on a bit. It's like making life easier for my other self who will be picking up from me on the backshift. 😎
@kitswithkaren5003
@kitswithkaren5003 3 года назад
@@provjaro Thinking about it it's all psychological i guess.Blocking in first makes you think you are further forward than you are.At the end of the day it all has to be done.It will take the same time whatever order you do things.Painters block again is psychological.A good title for a video the psychology of painting miniatures.🤗🐻👍

@@provjaro Haha Yes I changed the Channel Ident, with a view to relaunch it in a few weeks. I didn't realise it changed my name as well. My social media journey started with your blog, so seeing you back in the Naps saddle is very reassuring. You do yourself a disservice, you are a very competent painter with a good eye.
