Duck dog training drills we did at our DogBone Training Days Workshop! This drill was meant to get Finley using his nose, following the trail on a marked dummy that we drug away from the spot of the fall. This simulates a hit duck that moved off. We also incorporated a second blind after the tracked retrieve, which works to get Finley to understand to pick the cripple first, then go back for the dead bird. These duck dog training drills are all valuable, and are all preparing for real duck hunting scenarios.
In this drill, one thing that we did to increase the difficulty, and realism, was set it up with the wind at our back, just like you would be in a hunting scenario.
We hope you enjoy this quick duck dog training drill you can do with your duck dog as we approach the fall!
