I'm pretty sure the can itself should never be able to catch regular getup. Shielding is actually frame 1, regular get up has 1 frame of vulnerability (where you can't do anything) and the can explode 1 frame after making contact... So technically regular get up into shield can't be caught by the can alone.

So the can is an active hitbox the entire time it's in the air. So if the can is over him while he is doing the animation, the second he becomes vulnerable he blows up. It's easier to time after you've pinged the can at least twice.

Also it takes 2 frames to put up a shield so you technically have 2 frames to punish them if they're going into shield.

@@Dawangthang I'm not exactly sure if the can explodes the same frame it makes contact, or one frame after... ..but I'm certain shielding is frame 1. It's easy to test with little mac who also has a frame 1 jab.

It hits them and then explodes right after. That’s why a can hit always registers as 2 hits. You can go into frame by frame in training mode yourself and see it in action.
