Wahhhh so pumped and honored you answered my question! Unfortunately due to my hopeful future career, I have chosen to not have any social media. Is there any way I can gmail you or you can email me? It's Drblood67@gmail.com so you don't have to put yours in the comments. Thank you so much!
Face mask or face paint for sure especially since I like to basically be out in the open. Single reed 98% of the time. They don't freeze up near as much as a double reed and they sound cleaner to me. There are some days where I'm super off my game and I actually fall back on a duck commander triple threat. I just got my first cut down this year in micarta, my regular call is an acrylic. I know acrylic you can really reach out there which is nice, next year I'll probably run my cut down micarta as my primary and my j frame acrylic as my back up. When I was new to duck hunting everyone told me to leave my calls in the truck, 10 years later they're begging me to call for them and leaving theirs... It's like any musical instrument, it takes practice.
Joel I love the content. You answer questions a lot of guys won’t because of lack of experience or just flat don’t know. The dog content is gold. Thank You for the time and effort you put into your vids. It’s much appreciated.
I used face paint and went back to town to help with a work day in the city park. I did not remember I had face paint until I went home hours later. No one said a thing.
I love this style of video ! I’ve been duck hunting 40 years and I’m still learning new stuff from your channel so thank you !!! I also picked up some of your merch...nice stuff
I appreciate all the great information you provide in every video you post! Really like these types of videos so please keep them coming. One of my favorites is the 50 tips in 7 minutes. My question for you is what is the first shotgun you hunted with and what is your go to today. I started with a Sears and Roebuck single shot 12 gauge my grandpa lent me and now it's a Franchi Affinity 3. Big difference, but many years later I'll still take the single shot on some quick walk in wood duck hunts! Thanks again!
Thanks for your kind words! I'm glad you are enjoying the content and it helps you! My first shotgun was a mossburg 20 gauge pump. I quickly replaced it with a 12 gauge Remington 870. I still use that one today as my go-to gun. I have a few others that I use from time to time, but the old 870 still sees lots of action. I am thinking about trying something new this season. hmmmm
Helpful hint, bring an old wine crock with you for face paint. Burn the end of the cork then rub it on. Cleans up much easier than the store bought face paint .
Hey Joel!! Love the videos!! Keep them coming. I have been hunting ducks and geese for 30 plus years. I still get as excited as I did the night before my first hunt. I am hooked on your honest and down to earth approach to sharing information. I have a few questions that I would love to get your opinion on. First, I live in Washington state where battery operated decoys are illegal. I use a jerk string on a regular basis. Do you know of other methods to create motion in the spread in addition to jerk strings? Second, do you use an aftermarket choke? Curious to know what your thoughts are on chokes and knowing how to find the right one without breaking the bank by buying dozens of chokes. Thanks again Joel!! Quack on man!!
Thanks for your questions and comments. As for the motion in the decoys... Jerk rig would be the main thing. Adding a spreader with the jerk rig will add more motion. I'm not sure if you could use a trolling motor to move the water... it is battery operated, but not a decoy- so not sure on that one. If you could use that, it would be great. As for choke, I use mostly a factory modified. Occasionally I use a factory skeet. Patterning your gun, will tell the story. If your gun patterns well with a factory choke, then why go with an aftermarket?
Motion ducks spreader. They’re Based out of Black diamond Washington. We’ve been using them for four years and they’re amazing. BTW I am in Washington too
@@Tyler_B. Thanks Tyler!! I will check them out today. Where at in Washington are you? I'm in Central Washington (Yakima area). Thanks again for your insight.
Fly over a rice growing area on a sunny day when duck hunters are in the field. You might change your mind. Faces looking up look like mirrors trying to send a signal! Of course, if you're hidden well it doesn't matter. But if you just have to look up, you'd better have face paint or a mask!
I dont like face paint either. If I put anything on other than a face mask it's a burnt cork. I keep a wine cork in my blind bag with a lighter and I'll burn the end of the cork then rub it on my face....
At around 7 min he hits a big one. Buy two or three calls like you like he said. I'll expand on that. This is big so I'm going to yell it. IF YOU EVER FALL IN LOVE WITH A PIECE OF YOUR HUNTING GEAR BUY THREE MORE. IN TWO MONTHS THE COMPANY THAT MAKES IT WHATEVER IT IS WILL EITHER DISCONTINUE THE PRODUCT OR THEYLL IMPOVE IT TO DEATH. Example: I love my drake pullover but the new ones suck. Magnetic pockets with hinges that tear holes. Brilliant. I wish I'd have bought 4 when they were on sale.
@@SurvivingDuckSeason even little things like gloves. I bet you remember going to Walmart and getting the shooting gloves made of wool with nylon fingertips on the trigger fingers. Those were nice. I would wear out four pairs a season. Sigh. back when I was young and dumb... Today I'm dying raffia grass trying to match arkansas buck brush. One bottle of brown rit and a quarter bottle of red...yes red. Its pretty perfect.
Face paint or mask, most definitely! I always had my clients have one or the other. I always told them "If we don't finish a duck, I don't want the reason to be that it picked us out."
Sigh... Well first you need a specially trained child to do the drawing. You develop a special fold where it is unique. Origami book is helpful. Ive never taken a child hunting but im telling you I have seen it done and every single guy knew what just happened. What can you do? Acuse an 8 year old girl?
I hear some people say in their area that they believe cloudy days are better. Even some people who hunt near me say that. It makes no sense to me lol. I have hunted more than 60 days per year for more than 20 years all across the country and that’s what I’ve experienced. When I ask guys how often they hunt, after they say cloudy, they often say weekends. And then I ask how often is it cloudy vs sunny? You just have to look at things like that. Plus, weekends tend to be better in most places because there are more people out stirring up the birds. My data takes into consideration years of hunting ever day of the Duck season. If you hunted 3 days per week and 2 of those days were weekends... and if most weekends were cloudy you would think that cloudy days were better. Idunno I could be wrong.... just my way of thinking 👍🏻😁
@@SurvivingDuckSeason its a very very long way from Stuttgart to northeast Ohio. I used to believe it was better under clouds but we both know better. Get out your photo album. I have one too. Start counting pictures of limits with blue sky in the picture. Usually by the time im taking pictures the sun comes out. Point is we sat thru a storm and forgot all about it when the sun came out and the ducks came. Think a minute. That happens a lot dont it?
We have finally found something we respectfully disagree on. I totally believe acrylic is better for the fields but will not blow anything but a wooden in the timber!
I sometimes look stuff up online... Most times if it's good for pork, it's good for duck. Have you looked at any of my videos for cooking duck and goose?
