Animals don't judge... and they don't hate. People do... some even seem to revel in it. Tony loved animals because they loved him too... unconditionally. That may have been the only time in his life where he was able to experience that. Good stuff, Rummy.

They were also never gonna call him out on his shit. Not that those around him did as well. Except Melfy

I’ve always felt that the cringiest moment in The Sopranos was when Livia was getting all gushy on Johnny Boy (who was a saint) over the ill gotten meat. But then I remember Fran singing Happy Birthday Mr. President to Tony and my spine rips itself out of my body in pure cringe.

god I love the compilation sort of thing you do at the end. Also, great to see a youtube analysis that is actually good and not just some half assed summery. :)

The half assed summary is easily the worst genre of video essay on RU-vid.

Melfi was the worst therapist ever. EDIT: 22:08 I wish Tony had gotten a new horse after Pie-o-My and ridden it everywhere. Imagine an establishing shot of the parking lot outside the Bada Bing, with Tony's horse tied to a hitching post.

20:06..."You killed little Cosette. I oughtta suffocate you, you little prick." In the end, that's exactly how Tony did it. More foreshadowing from the writing team?

glad to see others seeing the anti-psychiatry/institutional psychology angle in this show. Meadow's therapist was 10x worse than melfi, and even melfi's therapist was worse than melfi. the only good therapist is the jewish man who told the plain face truth to carmella and refused payment and to see her again. I read this as possibly a comment on the profit aspect of therapy and how that effects treatment as well. (how many times has a therapist said, "you're cured. you're free to go."). Hmmm. many sopranos fans misinterpret the melfi sessions as her being the objective therapist, telling the audience what is actually going on in tony's head. when in reality there is plenty of projection and transference onto patients from therapists in psychology in real life. i believe melfi is an example of that. that's often why they go into the field in the first place. maybe they start out studying wanting to find out what's wrong with themselves, and all those concerns (consciously) go out the window once they learn they are the Alpha and Omega of who is sane and not sane, analogous to a mild God complex. Forcing their repressed troubles onto their patients or dozens of less insidious strange unconscious emotional and psychological transferences unintentionally sent and welcomed by the therapists. There's a lot of self-deluded therapists out there.

4:14 - Janice was certainly a source of stress in Tony’s life (maybe enough for two sisters), but Barbara? She had pretty much escaped the Sopranos orbit.
