One of the only channels I look for new episodes EVERYTIME I'm on YT. I'm pretty sure I watch more videos than I spend time in the actual DAW. Great job Kenny
I've watched about 5 of your Reaper tuts so far and they're all great. Clear, directly to the point, no nonsense, no rambling. Perfectly paced. I'd love more info on what Hysteresis and some of the other sliders are useful for, but I also appreciate that you just focus on one thing at a time, and choose practical examples that help demystify the general function of the tool, vs an exhaustive walkthrough of every feature. Great work, this is how more YT tutorial vids should be.
Awesome tutorial, thanks Kenny! I had three separate dialogue tracks instead of just one, tried linking each track to the folder, didn't work, so following the tut, I just put the three first tracks into a folder, and linked that folder to the ducking folder, and it worked! Thanks again! :)
Thanks so much for this. I'm working on finishing up an audio drama and I couldn't figure this final part out. It's so easy in Audacity, but sinceR Reaper's better, I'm glad to see it's pretty easy here too.
The next logical step is how do you workflow this with video editing software that doesn't have "auto-gate?" You should see some of the crazy stuff video editors do with their narration. I guess you'd need to do sound after the video is edited (like they do in "the movies").
Thanks Kenny! Im a female vo artist and am doing more and more post production working freelance. Are there any other tutorials that you think would benefit my work flow as a VO lady? I love your tutorials, thank you for making them.
Thanks for the effects. Can we use ducking to lower music when the main track's volume is high, and make the music come back when the main track's volume is low? Because my main track is not voice but an instrument that does not have any blank spaces in between.
My duck button doesn't work, it keeps gate the incoming signal instead of ducking it. I thought I was doing something wrong (have used it successfully in the past) so I came here to see how do you do it and basically I was doing the same exact thing. Could it be a bug? I have the latest version of Reaper, have you used ducking lately? Any idea? Love your videos, thanks.
Have the controls on ReaGate changed since this video was made? I'm finding that the dry slider seems to control the level of the music volume when the gate is triggered rather than the wet slider. Or am I doing something wrong? Everything in my config looks the same as yours. Thanks!
This in fact did change in 2019 according to Schwa: "Previously, with "invert gate (duck)" enabled, the signal that passes the gate was subtracted from the dry signal after applying the dry mix fader, so if you didn't have any dry mix, the FX would not do anything. Now the signal that passes the gate is subtracted before applying the dry fader." Not sure I totally understand the difference. If you do Kenny, hope you can elaborate. Thanks!
Your tut's are tops, but the program isn't called Re-AH-per, just Reaper. So it ain't Re-AH-Gate, it's simply RE-gate... phonetically, that is. You make the Reaper plug -ins sound like the word diarrhea.
