It's not the first time Hollywood hires actors that are obviously adults to play teenagers. And it's a bit frustrating because I used to watch these as a kid and then, when I actually got to be a teenager, I looked much younger and so did everyone around me and I thought ”What the hell?” Anyway, ”Everything Sucks!” is a really cool teenage show on Netflix and guess what? It has actual teenagers play teenagers (besides two characters which can pass).

@@JeffreyLeeBlake That's a fair question. Mostly it is just that it sounds like the sort of self-deprecating line a man would write to score points with women. If a woman wrote that line, then she sounds very self-promoting and that feels less likely. It's not the sort of line I or any of the women writers I know would write (though part of that could be regional, as I'm Canadian). And also even today I think most professional writers are men, so just statistically speaking it's more likely a man. Maybe 95% is a bit of an exaggeration, but that's just my perspective. I even asked my brother just now who is also a writer, and he says, "That sounds like the sort of thing a man would write to make women feel empowered, to stroke a woman's ego."
