When I say "$20" I mean $20 more than what I'm paying for DSL. Also, the LED on the router has several states that I've seen so far. Off, On, Fading White, and Red. Red seems to be not connected of some sort, slowly fading white seems to be connecting.

His long did it take from the moment you put in your info from the invite to your kit shipping? I just got my invite and I'm wondering how soon they will ship it! Freaking excited to have real internet for the first time in my life that doesn't use a cellphone as the provider!

It really is! I heard global rollout sometime in 2021, but we'll see.

Called a local satellite installer. They install for multiple providers for tv and internet. I asked if they could mount this to my roof and their initial response was "starlink? Aren't they out of business?" To which I replied no this is a brand new technology. They said good luck it will probably flop they never heard of it. Can't install it they have a contract with Hughes net. I said they will probably be getting a lot of calls to cancel service soon.

VPN works.. I use VPN Unlimited and my speeds are near same of course when connected to various servers in Canada-US. Now that I've been running my setup for over a month the speeds {80 to 180} don't even fret me anymore.. It's just blazing fast at doing everything that I'm online gaming without care anymore to check speedtest.

My office VPN is a little different than using vpn for private browsing. But it does work ,too! Thanks for the info and watching!

Where I live in Montana, we have high speed (80-100 mbps) through a co-op but we pay dearly. We pay per gig after 20 gigs so we can see internet bills from $200-500/month if we are not careful. I just got my Starlink invite and my equipment should be here in a few days. Looking forward to making that phone call to my current ISP :)

Funny you mention making that phone call to your current ISP, I'm doing that today (Bell Canada) to cancel my 100 gig capped 5meg service now that I have Starlink... Cheers! And an update...I'm now cancelled and lone wolf on Starlink...don' look back no regrets!

Once more satellites are in orbit the antenna can be smaller and it will not need to move or have motors in it. More regions will also get service. This is going to completely change the way we access the internet and phone service.

Yeah, exactly! My neighbors get 2.5, our old house got 12mbps...after the fiber upgrade. It's robbery to charge that much for that.

It's been cloudy for a week and it's been fine! The only hiccups I've seen is an occasional drop, usually towards the late afternoon/evening. IDK if it's on their end or something with satellite orbits and zoom video calls were dropping one day, my guess is latency.

Just as a caution regarding moving, you're taking a big (short term) risk that Starlink will either have an active beta testing cell that covers the area where your new home is going to be OR that they've opened up the coverage enough so that they are allowing people to move the terminals and still have connection even when they aren't at the contracted service address. To be sure that you understand, there are probably a few hundred/thousand people in MT who have signed up for Starlink but haven't gotten it because they don't live in one of the small cells SpaceX chose to serve during this early beta testing. All of MT is within the latitudes where SpaceX says they have sufficient coverage already, but lots of Montanans still can't get into the beta. Eventually, this won't be an issue. SpaceX is going to expand coverage so that you aren't being restricted to service just at your address and can move the terminal to a different area and still connect, but that isn't the case right now.

Exactly. I wouldn't buy a house dependent on Starlink right now. However, I've hard a 2021 wider rollout is being planned. But, we'll see.

Thanks for sharing. If I do a satellite system it will be this one. We have wireless coverage from a system of access points in our region. It is a cooperative. We pay $80 a month for 25/10. I have sent in a request for service but have not heard a thing. We are in rural SW Minnesota so maybe we are too far south for their "northern" beta program.

It took me about a month exactly to hear back. From what I understand the 2021 rollout is planned to be aggressive. Here's hoping you get what you want soon!

@@1crazynordlander I received an email last Weds(1/20). Like many others here, I submitted my email and location several times, probably monthly, beginning as soon as the website was visible. I don't recall when the first time was.

@@denny4471 Thanks. I will do it several times now. I have only submitted it twice so far. I have been checking my spam and promotional folders but nothing so far. Edit: I just resubmitted and this time it was different as it asked for an exact location instead of an address. Google has me living in a cornfield 2 miles west of me. Go figure!

It took about 30 days from initial signup to shipping. I signed up around Thanksgiving and got the email asking if I wanted to buy prior to Christmas. Your availability might be based on your location and satellite hardware not launched yet.

Theres no solution to fixing your cable because there's no outlet for the cable that connects directly inside the dish, ubiquiti is way more clean and way stronger .

There's an aux port on the supplied router which allows connection to other machines or a network.

Are they letting you move your beta? It seems like It’s tied to your address and must get approval.

No, they didn't let me transfer. However, It might only be because we didn't have a new address before the 30 days were up. I posted an update video, but I cancelled and will try to get it again at the new address. But yes, you're right, it's tied to address/geographic location at this point.

Out of curiosity, what was your question about moving? Did they happen to give you a distance that you could move? I just go an invitation and it would be nice if I could move it between two other locations. One is about 7 miles away and the other 22.

They said the contract is for the address. My suspicion and their FAQs point to it being a line of sight issue with satellites. It's only available in certain latitudes. So let's say they have 10 satellites available and each satellite can handle 10 users on a patch of ground, they allocate beta accounts to people in those areas. If there's no capacity in your area you can't have service. So with all that, they were going to ship it to a new address but I'm not moving yet. They said I could try it out, return it and sign up at the new address (which means waiting and no guarantee of service). Although it seemed like there was a possibility of moving if the new address was within my existing accounts geometric zone. But no guarantees. If it was just for personal use I wouldn't be so worried, it'll roll out eventually, but since I rely on it for work I'm not confident in buying a no internet property and relying on starlink just yet.

What is the aux port on the router for? Can you add more ports for hard wire?

Exactly, it's a normal ethernet connection. You can connect it up to a single machine or a router/switch/hub. I've done both and it works great.

If the van was stationary and you have power, sure. Right now they're looking for static service addresses. I'd think once it's all rolled out you'd be able to move around with it but they were very assertive in making sure my service was for my address' geographic location.
