Superb tone?? Deduce that from a youtube video eh? He plays Strats too, with a good "tone" I guess. But yes he is an excellent guitarist. Tone is a function not of the player but of the equipment--minus maybe the guitarist who can play very large gauge strings as well as others who only play thinner.

Don't know what the other guy is talking about, the tone here is awesome!!

@@DannyJamesGuitar its an overdriven guitar. Whats so amazing about that tone, versus everyone else? If you mean he can put licks together really well, then yes. But tone. I can get the same from my 7 guitars and 5 amps, depending how they are set up. But Les Paul tone? Is their a specific frequency response of a les Paul that can be measured from youtube? Gimme a break... I have les paul shapes, strat shapes, sg, and the only real difference is the amp, and to a minor effect the pickups. (Acoustic engineer here.)

@@violingineertube I honestly don't know what point you're trying to make. "It's an overdriven guitar - what's so amazing about it?" - Are you saying that all overdriven guitar tones sound the same? I doubt you think that. Well then that means they sound different, right? Then that means people have tones/sounds they prefer over others. Myself and the original poster happen to love this tone. Of course, it's all subjective. If you genuinely think this tone just sounds like any other "overdriven guitar" then you might lack the ability to hear the nuances in guitar tone. Doesn't mean you have to like it, but it's not the same as every other "overdriven guitar" tone. That's like saying "What's so special about this song? It's just a jumble of notes like any other song" It's technically true, but grossly oversimplified. Your self proclaimed "acoustic engineer" title doesn't mean anything in this conversation if you can't distinguish differences in guitar tones, and to be quite honest it's somewhat cringeworthy that you're using that to try and validate your opinion. And this is utter nonsense - "Tone is a function not of the player but of the equipment". Yes, of course the gear/equipment has a large impact on the overall sound. But to deny that the player has huge influence on the tone/sound is wrong and ignorant. Get ten different guitar players to play the same three notes on the exact same equipment. They will all sound different. Yes, there will be some aspects of the sound that will be similar - but the tones will not be the same. The way you fret the note, the pressure you apply with your fretting hand, the strength you pick the string with, the angle you pick the string, what position relative to the bridge you pick the string, your vibrato, your sustain, on and on etc. all effect the tone. You're not going to get Jimi Hendrix's tone simply by plugging a strat and a fuzz face into a Marshall plexi. I'm not trying to be rude, but your comments come across as know-it-all and arrogant.

@@DannyJamesGuitar the point I am making is to separate the equipment from the player, a player distinguishes his "sound" by style of playing...it can be mimicked by other players, better or worse, bt highly depends on the transition between notes, etc as what you have mentioned, agreed. But my point was that three identical guitars (assuming each time below they are played the same) with identical pickups played the same will sound identical. Three guitar bodies that differ but with same pickups will sound almsot exactly the same. Three guitar bodies that differ and with differing pickups will sound a bit different but nothing truly noticable via the quality of a youtube recording. Yet the OP makes it sound like they can distinguish a Les Paul sound.... All Im saying is I have 3 guitars with exactly the same pickups played on the same amp, but the body shape (and scale) are the only variables, there isnt a huge difference in tone quality at all. Tone quality (frequency response, modal resonance, etc) is a characteristic on an elec guitar of primarily where the string is plucked wrt the distance from the bridge. As at any given distance the plucking location tends to filter the harmonics out associated with that location. All other factors (pickup, string gauge, body material, neck material, body shape, neck length,, neck scale) are very miniscule, and so the point of a Les Paul (presume 24 3/4) sound versus Fender (25.5) sound is almost indistinguishable with overdrive/distortion, especially on a compressed format recording such as youtube. Possibly articulation is affected, but again, with heavy effects not much anyone can tell. Finger pressure makes zero difference to the tone of an elect guitar, it can affect pitch and articulation, but not the freq response.
