Maybe not as daft as it sounds as the Gladius and I believe Spatha were intended for stabbing not cutting. Later, larger two handed swords were actually only sharpened at the ends to allow half swording or basically using as a spear.

would have been fine if he had grabbed it near the guard, they were usually dull down there.

New camera has solved this - it was old footage I realised I hadn't used.
