I'm a musician, and when I tell you this music is so complex. 😵‍💫 Mihoyo hires some of the most talented musicians literally on planet Earth to do these. We are blessed to hear this high level of performance in game for free. I'll gladly spend money on the game if it goes to hiring talented musicians. This does get me excited for Sumeru music. I'm thinking they may go middle eastern with the style. That would be really cool!

I have heard this track hundreds of times in-game but somehow i never realized that it was made entirely with traditional japanese instrumentation! nice job mihoyo!

This performance was NOT filmed in a place like a concert hall, but inside of Osanbashi (which is "the great pier") located in Yokohama City. Yokohama City is 150-years-old historical harbor in Japan and so good to enjoy Inazuma OST !

The large drum played overhead is called an "odaiko" (大太鼓), literally translating to "big drum". The medium-sized drums with wooden bodies are "chudaiko" (中太鼓), which are normally just referred to as "taiko" drums in English-speaking countries and are the most common drums found outside Japan. The smallest drums with ropes are "shimedaiko" (締め太鼓), while the taller ones with ropes are a subcategory of shimedaiko called "okedo" (桶胴太鼓). I was so happy to hear taiko in the Genshin soundtrack! I've played taiko for a while but not many people know about so I'm glad that games like Genshin are able to highlight traditional instruments :)

I heard the whole song in a battle, and didn't realize it was almost 5 minutes?!

For anyone who doesn't know, the taiko drummers in the back row are from a taiko performance group called Kodo. They're currently touring the US and Canada. They've got a European tour scheduled as well. If you ever get the chance to see them live, I highly recommend it. Their youtube videos are great, but pales in comparison to a live performance where you can FEEL the drums as they're played.

I just noticed that the lights flickering on the musicians' faces mimics the flashes of lightning. Inazuma in Japanese means lightning. This is such a small yet nice detail put unto the visuals.

I almost cried after watching inazuma music behind the scences vid. It was truly a miracle to all of us. The people who teamed up with mr.chen truly are wonderful people. They know how to respect and trust each other. That’s what makes me love the genshin music even more. This has to be one of the irreplaceable treasures of the world.

Normally with music like this you would imagine a thrilling and epic battle, maybe you visualize an epic duel or a 1v15, but all I can imagine is some dude summoning a giant rock from the sky and summoning a ghost from their hands to literally wipe out an entire camp of homeless people

Miyoho may upset players for many reasons, but their music department never will, absolutely work of art. Never have I imagined that a super high quality game( An open world game with minimal bugs compare to Bethesda and CDProject games?, definitely an AAA+ game ) that embrace their own country culture and also respect and embrace others, from a Chinese company. Just don't let greed consumes you please dear Mihoyo.

0:09: a quieter start, however with the sounds of dry drums indicating that something is to come. 0:35 the tempo increases slightly increasing the tension of the song. 1:00 here we have the addition of one more percussion, showing that things are going to heat up. 1:07 the bass drum appears, joining all the elements with its dry and smooth beats, intensifying the track even more. 1:27 the rhythm of the track will intensify more and more, which can make you afraid or maybe, completely absorb your attention in what you will do to defeat the enemy. 1:41 the strings become more present than the drums, with their high pitched and even slightly out of tune sounds that will make you feel trapped in the place and try to get out of there as fast as you can. 2:07 the pre-chorus of the song, the rhythm suddenly collapses, indicating that sooner or later things will get out of control. 2:21 the feeling of suffering and fear grows stronger, the sound steals your sense of freedom. 2:30 the synchronized beats of the drums show you that the challenge will be greater from then on. 2:34 the peak of the song with a very high-pitched flute solo intensifying it completely, it seems that the enemy is stronger than you are able to withstand, but you continue in search of freedom. 3:00 the withdrawal of the flute and the acceleration of the drums shows you that the first challenge has been won, but the end is still far away and you will have to endure. 3:14 again the ropes steal the show and prepare you for the final challenge. 3:21 all the excitement returns to sound with the resource of synchronized beats giving you the feeling of running away from there now, but his ambition for victory and the spoils keeps him going. 3:27 the string-only solo showing that the future from that moment on is uncertain, anything can happen in the blink of an eye. 3:40 the flute returns again, this time until the end showing the apex of everything you've faced before, emotion transcends reason which will cause you chills and fear of death, you don't know if you can beat it, but you advance fiercely every closer to victory. 4:07 a dry cut indicating that you had a narrow escape, there is no reason to celebrate the victory but that you managed to escape this one and you should be more careful next time. This soundtrack is AMAZING. Not only does it capture Inazuma/Japan, but it also captures what an impending storm would sound like if it was converted music. The way it starts chill like it's raining lightly at first, then the wind starts picking up as the rain gets more intense, then that first thunderclap represented by the large drum in the back. So good...

"Duel in the Mist" really is a fitting name for this theme. Overlord of the Thunderstorm is more grandiose and slower-paced, like the sound of thunder, whereas this theme is fast-paced and intense, like a sword fight between two Samurai, a dance of death in the fog.

When you realize that this epic music you've been listening to on repeat are just made out of traditional instruments...

I never actually heard the rest of this song because the battles were so short but listening to it in full and watching these amazing musicians go ham on those instruments is making me feel things!! 😊WOW

As usual, music is the one thing that never disappoints in this game.

The musician's level of mastery is magnanimous. I can tell you that playing the koto, shamisen, and shakuhachi with this types of beat and melody is arduous. These instruments are even tuned differently and are transposing to different notes. I commend the exquisite music and the highly-skilled musicians.
