Hands down the most beautiful place on earth, My Grandfather James Douglas Tippett used to drive cattle from Joseph to Dug bar in the 50's, 60's, 70's, and was a fishing and hunting guide there in fall too. I wish i could've spent just one season along side him, it would a dream come true. This video was absolutely heart warming to watch.
My Dad told me about driving our old family friends, who were "Flat-Landers" from the Willamette Valley, down to Dug Bar in a motor home. The steepness of the final grade freaked them out. I always thought it was spelled "Doug's Bar!" Glad to take the journey there with you both. The Snake River canyons are so special...thank-you!
I’am 75 now and still recall that me and my pals would ride truck inner tubes from the bottom of hells canyon to Lewiston beach. In the late 1950s and early 60s, my last journey was one last time in 1962. I got such sun burns I’ve had repeated basil cell carcinoma surgeries on my face and arms and hands. But it was worth it, the joy and comradely left the best memories.
I am exhausted, feel like I drove the whole way. Assume Jim. I love it over there. You tuned my back up on the place and Joseph OR is a great place to go for a week. Nicely done!
This is the generational home of my people. I still feel sad looking at it. I have driven it 4 times but stopped at Hat Point, going down to the Snake River other ways.
I believe I read that Joseph and his band crossed at Dug Bar. Wherever, it was in the winter or early spring and the Snake was very high. They lost a lot of their cattle and horses, but not one person! This included elderly and children.
What a great video, thanks for sharing. My son and I are going to check this out in a couple weeks 😊 do you happen to remember how long that road in to dug bar took you to drive in?
