One of my favorite streams. It's a well managed public trophy trout stream here in Georgia. They close the stream to fishing during the summer to keep them from stressing out. Also, when open to fishing, they only allow 15 people per day on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. CnR only barbless hooks only. Enjoy. Like. Comment. Subscribe.

True. Unfortunately GA has a high daily limit and many are too greedy.

Thank you. Yes we do have some good water here. Just need to fight to keep it that way. could use some better regulations.

I used to fish Dukes Creek back in the 70's and early 80"s. Right as you turned onto the scenic parkway there was a rough one track that ran along the creek. It was all native stream reared trout...no stocking back then. I don;t recall ever seeing anyone else fishing there..well maybe once I saw a couple people, but not sure they were fishing...maybe just hiking up to the falls. Haven't been there since they blocked out that track and went all Smithgall Woods on me. Used to be probably about 80% rainbows and 20% Browns...and boy were the Browns pretty.

I've heard that you need some sort of reservation to fish there. How do you get one?
@trouttrailfishin
@trouttrailfishin 4 года назад
Yes Bob, reservation is free and it's only Wednesday Saturday and Sunday. They usually close for the summer though as to not stress the fish when water temps rise. something I wish the whole state would do. Number is 1 (706) 878-3087

I had the opportunity to fish there one day during the first week of March. They must've had some high water because that walk way bridge was washed way downstream. I still caught a few fish but I didn't talk to anybody else that caught any.

What kind of setup do you recommend for November at dukes? Drop dropper or indicator?

Duke’s used to be a great trout stream but the last two years 22 & 23 it’s starting to suck. Everyone advertises what creek or river they’re fishing in every post or video. All that does is bring on the decline of these streams for fly fishing, bc it’s not other serious fly fishermen or women that ruin them it’s the catch & kill crowd that show up & hammer these streams & deplete the trout population & within a couple of years absolutely ruin the fishery.

It was declining before then. But I agree about stream naming. Only reason I name this stream is the restrictions it has as far as they close over the summer. It CnR only barbless hooks only. Problem is they apparently aren't very vigilant in making sure people are actually practicing good techniques. Also since they do allow spin fishermen I know for a fact they get treble hooks with barbs. I've found them along the stream. Also they get poachers. They need to do like streams up north and have a guy out there fishing who's actually DNR and randomly check people. Hell DNR needs a bigger presence in general.

Poaching, dry summers & falls, flood conditions, and lack of checking people ruined this place. Also heard there is a big otter presence along section three & four now not sure how true that is as I mainly fish section 1 nowadays. It’s a shame because this was an amazing fishery, there are certainly still big fish in it but not near as many
