What was it like being on the same night as Dallas? Great question and I hope you enjoy the answer. Keep these fantastic questions and this wonderful conversation going!
I was very young, maybe five years old, when that was going. My brother and I were more than a little scared of the Hulk, but we persevered to watch the fun-loving, car-jumping Dukes at nine o'clock. By the time Dallas came on at ten, it was time to go to bed, and Dallas was not of interest to little kids, anyway.
you're totally right... back when TV was actually GOOD, had good content, actors, writers, directors.... now it's all woke activists with NO talent and they wonder why we dont watch TV anymore..lol
Tigermantcb 1977 Same here! There was no Netflix, iTunes or Disney plus back in those days. I was lucky however. Why? Due to my strong interest in how movies were made, at times my Parents would let me stay up late for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson even on a school night if there was somebody special on I wanted to see. This was of coarse before we got our vcr so I could program & record the tonight show while I slept.
Liked his feelings about parents today robbing their children of their innocence. Its true and why our current state of a broken country has begun. Kids grew into dark uncaring young adults fast.
In today's throw away society everything from appliances, cars and unborn children, America has withered away. I suspect the lucky people today were raised by parents and saw grandparent that lived through the depression. My Dad was the guy who would take hours to make a 1 dollar bracket instead of buying something. Morals and respect are few these days.
Children then knew exactly what a boy, a girl, a man and a women were. They weren't confused and there were no sickos trying to confuse them. Today many are confused because of the media and depressed because of it.
I love that young people are still watching this great show! I remember 13. In my mind tat is the age where your dreams, design and goals are strongest, most clear and attainable. Go for it Cool! Go for it Leo! Whatever "IT" is. The world is yours. Go grab it!
You too Voodoo. But by 48 life has usually tried to talk you out of your dream. Don't let it. If it has... get back in touch with your 13 year old self and GO FOR IT!
Love how John has these talks with us . Always glad to hear from you John I wish we could go back to 3 networks. Now we have hundreds of networks and not much on worth watching
I was raised on the Dukes back in the day, and all of my daughters have been too. Love the cars, the characters and the action. You're so right, it was a great time to grow up!
When I was a little girl I had a big crush on you. Lol. So good to you see you and I really miss watching Dukes of Hazzard. Here in Paris Tx we have UNCLE Jesse's house and UNCLE Jesse's Bass tournament every year. I miss everybody on the show.
Yes, less fake news. But a lot less to watch and More Boring.. especially late night after the American Flag. There Was Nothing, just a buzzing noise.😅
@@fordsrule35 Yes, it's a sad state of affairs when there is literally nothing good on on 100 channels or more all at the same time.. and that happens often. Having said that, I remember a whole lot of 'Garbage' on when it was just the 3 networks.. So!
I was two years old when the Dukes of Hazzard premiered. My fondest memory is sitting on our couch and my dad sat with me, we would watch the show every Friday night. I always looked forward to Friday's nights and watching my favorite show. Interesting enough my dad had an old 68 Dodge Cornet, and I had blonde hair until I was 5. So, naturally I thought my dad's car was the General Lee. In fact, I would only got in the car through the windows. A few years ago I purchased all the DVD seasons and lately when I get sad missing my dad who passed away last year I put in the DVDs to watch the show. Mr. Schneider thank you and all the cast for being a part of my childhood. It was indeed a show for the family and I will always cherish it.
Friday night was AWESOME for my family! I watched Dukes, and my parents watched Dallas. Too bad the “Crossover” wasn’t a thing yet! Can you imagine Boss trying to cut a deal with JR Ewing, and the Dukes having to prevent something bad happening???
John, We need better moral foundations in this country, especially in your profession. Thank you for not letting them rob you of yours.. Role models are few and far between these days.
It's not just you. I still monitor what my kids watch. I remember that lineup. We would go to my grandparents almost every weekend. They lived way out in the country about an hour and a half away. We would get out of school on Friday, do our homework before our parents got home, pack (if we didn't the night before), and get there in time for supper, eat with all the aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. Then all 27 of us would gather in the living room and watch Dukes. We all would spend the whole weekend and go back home Sunday afternoon. Such great memories!
@@veronicageorge7820 You are welcome. We are still a close family, but the ones that are left don't get together every weekend anymore 🙁, but this brought back a great memory.
Beloved The same thing happened to my great grandparents family. They had 12 children. We all (children, grandchildren, greats, great greats- hundreds of us!) got together several times a year and had a family reunion each year on the first Sunday in June. Oh my goodness the food and fellowship! We can all still count on most in any circumstance. Now, there are only 5 children still living, but reunions stopped several years ago. It’s really sad. But my memories are great.
@@veronicageorge7820 Wow. Thanks for sharing. My grandparents had 6 kids (4 are still alive) and 13 grandkids. The rest of the 27 were spouses of the 6 kids. They lived on a farm kind of like the Dukes, so my grandpa taught us all how to take care of the animals. He mainly had horses, but he also had some pigs chickens, and occasionally a cow. My grandma taught us how to cook without relying too much on recipes. I have some uncles and cousins that always had guitars and even banjos. You talk about 1 country family! 😄 I wouldn't trade my childhood for the world though.
I must admit getting this off my chest, I have had a Crush On You John since I was a young girl watching you on TV, I thought you were amazing in every way then and Now.. Usually a Crush doesn't last forever but you have always been like a Love in my life.. You just get better with age I say the same thing about myself better with age LOL! 😊
John's comment on innocence rings so true. I miss the family channel from back in the day as well. Funny story. When the Dukes Of Hazzard would go to commercial they always showed the General Lee jumping towards the screen and then freezing it while you heard a drummer hit the high hat. In my childhood mind the sound of that high hat was the push bar on the front of the General Lee touching the tv screen just ever so gently. Ha!
You’re still answering questions even when you’re out at the beach, you’re so nice to your fans! I think it’s just awesome and so are you! God bless and take care! 🙂
I was 7/8 years old and I would get all excited to watch the General Lee jump. That's what little boys loved seeing in 1978. I would always fall asleep 15 min into the show. And it was not until 6 years later did I start to appreciate the "Daisy Duke' shorts.
John is a very polished speaker, even when he’s speaking extemporaneously. I enjoy listening to him. Yeah, the lineup was Incredible Hulk/Dukes/Dallas until 1982. When Hulk ended, the other shows slid forward an hour, with Falcon Crest at 10. After Dukes ended in 1985, I don’t think they ever found a lead-in for Dallas that worked as well. Dallas slid out of the top 10 by 1986.
@Jared Linden(open): I think also, by that time, NBC found a way to do damage on Friday Nights with *MIAMI VICE.* And, at the same time, ABC scrapped the "Friday Night Movie" and brought in *20/20* to the 10PM Eastern slot.
I was 8 when Dukes started in ‘79. That show started a lifelong appreciation of badass cars and pretty girls. I married my own pretty girl 23 years ago, and finally bought my 2019 Dodge Challenger 2 weeks ago. I just bought Seasons 1-3 on DVD and I’ve enjoyed watching the show with my own boys now. Thank you sir for such an awesome show, and God bless you.
@john schneider I want to thank you for bringing back these memories for me. During the times The Dukes were on, my mother and father were going through their divorce. But he still came over to watch Dukes with me very week when a new episode aired. It was "our" time. God Bless you John, you made a difference in this littler person's life during a very difficult time.
John Love your little channel here. So here is my question to you , Do you still stay in touch with the former cast members. and if so could you mabe do a Dukes round table via RU-vid. And if you like that I have an awesome Idea for you John thank you for keeping one of the greatest family shows alive.
You’re so old-fashioned! My son could not miss the Dukes... I got into Dallas for a while. Then divorced & had to work a second job so that was that...Friday I went from day job to new job till 2am and Saturday night as well. Kid was happy cuz where he was getting babysat, they loved the Dukes, too! I wish they’d play re-runs here in Cleveland. I bet he’d watch it all over again! ✌️
Love the Dukes of hazzard - huge part of my childhood. Here in the UK the Dukes is on every evening at 6pm. I’ve introduced my two year old daughter to it and she loves it - she gets very excited whenever the General Lee makes a jump! Thanks for being a part of my childhood and now my daughters childhood also 👍
We watched the Dukes every Friday. My dad bought us a glass-bottle Coke once per week, and it was to drink while watching the Dukes. Dallas always meant bedtime when I was a kid. That theme song still haunts me to this day!
You are so right about how back in the old days most parents didn’t let their kids watch any old thing whether it was appropriate for kids or not. I hate that a lot of parents do that now. I watched Dukes and my mom watched with me. I don’t think I watched it from the beginning and I didn’t see every episode because I was at my high school’s football game every Friday night that there was a home game. My mom and I watched Dallas too but not from the beginning. We started watching it when The Who Shot JR thing was going on. I was 14 and in high school. I never saw the later episodes either because I went to college and had better things to do than to watch TV. My parents are gone now. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.
I remember one Friday night, an episode of, "Wonder Woman," starring Lynda Carter aired before, "The Dukes of Hazzard." CBS announced it was a special night for the former.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. Don't ever change John, I remember as a little kid watching the Duke boys and watching Smallville and just enjoying your characters in the show and watching your videos here has been a great change of pace with all that's happening. Thanks for being a good man and will do my best to do the same.
John, I remember all of that very well! Nothing said Friday night like the dukes of hazzard and Moms pizza when Dad got home from work. I was almost 7 and my brother was 9 when the show started and I've never outgrown it. Thanks for the awesome role model!! With role models like the Dukes of Hazzard and the Statler Brothers how could you go wrong. Thanks for the awesome childhood memories!! Yee ha!!
These videos are great! Thanks for taking the time to share so many stories and insights in to classic television! I could listen to your tales for hours.
Man I got all the seasons on vhs still! Lol .. for a few autos also but not from u or tom but yea love ya guys .. keep it up and enjoy that nice weather!
"when there were three networks." I laughed at that because I lived in the sticks and we only got those three channels on our antenna. CBS, NBC, and ABC, and we only got ABC if the stars were aligned just right and you held your mouth a certain way. Thanks for this, Mr. Schneider! It's always a pleasure hearing you talk about Dukes.
Yo John, Matt here. I hope you remember me from the Comic-Con in Raleigh 5 years ago. You are an awesome person and a cool dude and I love all 7 seasons of the Dukes of Hazzard TV series that I have on DVD and I am currently in the midway point of season 4 and love every bit of the craziness in the series. Here's my question to you: what was it like when you guys filmed the first few episodes of Dukes in Covington GA, and who made the decision for you guys to pack up and do the rest of the series in California for the rest of the series? Awesome stuff as always and you rock, brother. Hope to see you again soon. -Matt
Now I know why John Schneider is no longer on TV, He makes Waaaay to much rational sense, and Holly Wood can’t have that nowadays. We need more John Schneider’s in the world. js 🤷🏻♂️
Hes on Tyler Perry's Have and Have nots but he plays a mean part. He does a good job at it but nothing like Bo Duke. It comes on Own unless they dont renew it
I wanted to say thank you for giving us kids something that lasted our whole lives. I actually got to see "A General Lee" at a convention once. It's always been a dream car because of the Dukes of Hazard.. I even had the Lunch Box. But really, I'm not here for me. B is for Build recently had their Eleanor mustang build, confiscated by the creators of Gone in 60 Seconds... And I just do not get it... With all the General Lees, with all the Knight Riders, and all the Back to the Futures... That if someone built a General Lee, and and Dukes of Hazard just "took it from them"... ? I understand you are not a lawyer, but I am wondering what YOUR thoughts are, as the General is one of the most desired movie cars ever produced. That perhaps, it might even be cool to see you reach out to Chris, who did work hard for this car... And shed some light on what happened... I couldn't tell you Hannibal Smiths real name, or who played the Hulk... But I will never forget John Schneider. I mean that. Friday Night, right after Hulk, 8pm, 9pm, I was home. 7pm... I was home... I was about 7 years old. It's funny how you can do something, and it stays with people for life.
Your a good man. Thank you for all the memories. My grandson is 5 and will be watching every episode of dukes. Thank you all , one of the best shows ever.
How do we defend the confederate flag? I don’t see race or hate when I see the flag. I see southern pride.family. Friends. Good people. Dukes of hazard. Lynyrd skynyard. Symbols don’t hurt people people hurt people
Johnnybtv I believe in being proud of where you come from. I love people from the South, they have more manners than most people up North, and I’m from NY, the biggest congested cesspool of people in all of America!
@@Multi7477 It seems like you have a lot of hurt feelings. Do you need a safe space where you can hug the flags of traitors against America? Also, the phrase is "cake hole", not "pie hole".
@@Multi7477 It's not a question of affordability, it's just that cake is better than pie. There's no such thing a blowing out the candles on a birthday pie. Cake has frosting. If you put frosting on pie it looks weird.
made in America since 1776, well the real in people left a long time ago. Obama gave us men in women locker room and bathroom. This country is going down the crapper. I’m glad I’m getting old so I don’t have to deal with youth of this country.
@@gunner2gunner you dealing with youth right now and I'm right with you. People are faker that a 3 dollar bill and politicians selling our country out and keeping black citizens down so they don't lose a voting base then use threats of being called racist for anyone who dares bring it up. We finally kicked the sin of racism out then politicians brought it back to keep the people divided. That's why they kneel for the flag now. To further divide us. We need to be all united or we will die under communism
made in America since 1776 just had to deal with a 26 year and she thinks I work for her. Having 30 plus years on her, I had to tell her that I’m the customer and without customers she doesn’t have a job, so basically she works for me and all the other customers. She thought because she’s the manager, she rules. Had to set her straight on that. I so dislike youths who think they know it all.
Thanks John…Happy times & good memories for many . I was one of the 28 million watching my favorite good ole’ boys on Friday nights . Still luv ya JS. & TW.
Go to Americanpolicy.org and sign letter to stop HR6666 liberal governors already hiring trackers they will come to our homes test us anyone with covid they will take you away.
You are an amazing person ❤️. They want to erase our "GOOD HOME VALUE SHOWS" ...I won't ever forget the show. Still watch it today as well as my kids. We love you. We thank you for all that you have done and are doing. Love the time you take for us. 🤠❤️
Its amazing the love people still have for the Dukes of hazzard. I was hooked from the very first time I saw it at 6 years old. Still a huge fan of it today. Best TV show ever. 😊
John, thanks so much for your content and taking us back down memory lane!! Three network channels and programming back then still has today’s “wide variety” beat in my humble opinion.
#MalibuBeachRVPark been there! Oh, I'm in envy right now, I'll admit it. :) You are in a very special place right now both physically and Meta-Physically!! LOL My Dad worked for NBC Burbank & said o'l Carson was a real firecracker sure enough! Your account of this TV history you saw like I did, was cool to hear John. It's been quite the ride!
That was the highlight of my Friday night. I would spend the night at my grandparents and watch both shows before falling asleep as they watched falcon crest.
Hey John, I am still watching "THE DUKES" on you tube, and, here in the UK, we have a network called, "FORCES TV" doing re-runs. I am a retired vet, The Royal Navy, and a retired copper in The Met. Police, Scotland Yard area, I almost died making an arrest, I had a rupture, I lost so much blood. My life story is is so long. I was a multi-instrumentalist in the navy band, this is why I am in contact with, and watch the United States Navy Band.....FANTASTIC!! I recorded over 8 albums, and 3 double albums, my radio show had...OVER...FIFTEEN MILLION...PROVEN LISTENERS. I had superstars doing "Phone In's" I will not bore you anymore with my story......Just want to thank you all for MY FAVE. TV SHOW!
I agree with you so much on innocence lost. The TV and Music today is so bad. I was born in the 60s so I grew up listening to my moms and siblings generation of music and TV as well as my own. The TV and Music of 50s 60s 70s and beginning of the 80s was so wonderful. I brought my own 6 children up with the same music and TV. Things had heart in them and really had meaning behind them! When a song comes on that takes you back to the first time you heard it and you feel that same emotion as in the past that my friend is heart and soul. Same with TV I remember when I would have tears or the biggest smile on my face. Absolutely nothing today compares in TV or radio as those wonderful yrs. TV had a moral behind the show with down to earth fun and reality mixed together. I really miss those years. They were great and innocence was kept. God bless John
love these videos! its a lot of fun having you connect. to the people who grew up watching you be a role model to your entire generation and their kids!
I remember as a kid watching my favorite show, “Dukes,” and then my parents would let me watch the theme song to Dallas (because that intro was awesome), and then it was time for me to go to bed because I couldn’t watch Dallas. The way you just explained it was exactly how it was for my family. I was born in 1977. Thanks for the memories!
Love The Dukes of Hazzard!! Grew up on it!! Good times! Loved the 3 channels back then and now its crazy to be able to look up anything and watch it.... Pacific Beach ......mmmmm.....we are in San Diego and went to Mission Beach yesterday.....beautiful to see again! Love all you do John!! Looking forward to next month too.... Stay safe!! 💜Pinky💜
It's amazing how great a memory some folks have. I can't remember any of what was showing on any time slot especially that long ago - what came on before or after Dukes of Hazzard or other networks shows that run parallel to Dukes of Hazzard. I agree! 3 networks made life so much simpler (easier).
John you’re so awesome thank you for your narrative and thank you for your history lesson and thank you for being who you are, you’re a wonderful person and your wisdom and understanding is blessed🙏🏻 I too wish we could go back to rotary telephones and three network programming and just live in a little bit of old school and you’re right! You did have the best lineup, never missed a gig...🙏🏻👍
My son and I loved Hulk and Dukes. He got a Duke's pedal car for his birthday that year. He loved it. Great exercise for kids, not like the electric toy cars they have now. If you flip your phone sideways, you get wide-screen view. 🙂
Wow! Thank you for the education on how things worked back then. All makes sense now: Kids, Family, then send the kids to bed. I loved the CBS Friday & NBC Thursday nights from 10 to 18 years old (1978 to 1986), never understood why. Now I know.
My brother, dad and I never missed the Dukes. I was a kid and only having 3 channels was great! It was a great time then, the best!! I never miss Have and Have Nots with you as Jim either. You are just a great talent to watch.
I remember being side by side with my brother on the floor in front of the Television ready to watch the new episode of the Dukes of Hazzard and not caring a thing about what came afterward. The Fall Guy stands out in my memories too, as well as the A-Team. Thanks for the great memories John Schneider, and I love your song Country Girls as well!
John, thank you for all the entertainment you gave us. There has been nothing on TV in such a long time which you genuinely look forward to sitting down and watching with the whole family (because it’s suitable for all ages) and leaves you feeling so good after you’ve watched it. I hope it’s not lost on you the, the affect you and all the other people involved in Dukes had on people’s lives all around the world (somehow, I’m pretty confident with you that it won’t be!) #01
John, I agree if wasn’t for The Dukes of Hazzard, Dallas would never been successful. I got to tell you it feels that 1980 was just yesterday, I was 10 years old living in the Rainier Valley neighborhood of Seattle and when Friday afternoons came after school was over, I would look forward to the evening tuning into KIRO 7 (CBS) and seeing both Dukes and Dallas. Both shows were awesome and still is today cause I have both shows myself on DVD to relive my childhood fun. It’s really sad today on what television has become with cable and satellite TV having too much choices of 150 channels or more! These network executives are just not creative and that’s why we see too much nonsense going on today just to make profit! This is why I’m a 70’s television and music guy! Television back then was pure and simple!
The people that missed the 70's, it was an awesome time. I was the remote lol and rabbit ear's on at 5, off at 11, Dukes of Hazzard was a favorite, and then, the infamous Dallas, I am from Maine, the show brought me to Texas, lol, crazy!!! Thank you for sharing this 💜
I will be fifty this year and I get so nostalgic when I think of the old TV shows back in the 70s and 80s. Like the old Eddie Money song says, "I wanna go back..."
Thankyou for the talks John. Brings back great memories. Remember on the tapes where you all did a voice over and explained how it was shot, my son studied all of it. Lol a real great program to share.
I also have happy memories of the Duke's ...use to take my son's out riding in my car ..my son's always said Mommy do the General Lee..oh I did but just over back country roads here in Kentucky ...them sure are some great memories we made !!!!❤️💯 Ty Duke Boys Uncle Jesse and Daisy ..Great Program !!!! Thank you all for the Memories ❤️
