I never understood people calling this show racist. 1st episode they had their arms around their black friend and were playing bumper cars in a junkyard
You wonder now how they got the car, stuck a engine in it. Painted it and still had a couple of hours before the race with dry paint in 2 days lol. I miss the dukes of hazard. Best show of all time.
I remember one time when I was a boy Daisy, and enos came to rupp arena in Lexington KY. They drove a pulling truck for exobition show. I loved that. I got to meet both of them. They were great. Daisy omg. Allen Gaines was there pulling with mid night express and I think enos drive that truck if I'm not mistaken.
Took me till I was an adult and lived in the South (Born a Yankee) that I figured out/learned that the reason they wanted a fast car was NOT to race, but to run Uncle Jessie's bootleg moonshine and get away from old Roscoe P. Coltrane!
two and a half days to create that masterpiece I've been attempting to restore my car for 16 years although we never until just recently had a garage to do the work in, now that we do it's a different story hopefully that car is gonna be terrorizing the streets like the general was/did :-D..! keyword:" hopefully"
Almost every young American Male born between 1965-1980 (thinking about kids watching this show back then) wanted that car. That car was more iconic that any that came after it. Be it a Delorian from Back to the Future to KITT on Knight Rider. The General Lee was on its own level.
The whole time was good for iconic cars. The three you mentioned, the A-Team van, the Magnum Ferrari and the Miami Vice Ferrari......it was a good time for car people. But the Lee is the first one I remember as being almost it's own character.
I never once in my life thought that the rebel flag was racist at all and I'm black. I love the dukes of hazards its a funny show about street racing and out laws nun racist about this show or that flag
Stone Crank From a Canadian fan's perspective I never thought it racist either. For me growing up, I just thought it was just a flag that was on the car.
Stone Crank and if you remember that they had a black actor on the show playing a sheriff of a neighboring town and he was black the sheriff's name was sheriff little
There are some good gems out here today. But even a zoomer (slang for a person born between the late 90's-mid 2000's) like me can't deny that the Duke Boys will always top the rest. Wish I was born during that time.
Im glad your not offended by the confederate flag the dukes of hazzard never was a racist show and thats why i dont get why they took it off the air. Its dumb that america thiks its racist, because when the were kids they all loved that show
@@tylerjohnson4635 believe me Tyler I used to watch this show when I was a little kid! As a kid I did not know anything about racism. All I know is I wanted Bo and Luke to let me ride in the General Lee and listen to the advice the Duke Boys, Uncle Jesse and Cooter and Daisy would give me. I know they would not steer me in the wrong direction. And I agree that I hate to hear why they took it off of reruns. And as for the flag, well it does not bother me. I mean I get what to stood for for both sides but it did not bother me. Hell when I was working for Dish Network I had a super nice white lady asked me of that flag offends me. I smiled and to her no and it's the pride of the South and I told her about how I watch this show and wanted to own a General Lee.
People are just brainwashed to think every southern being is a racist. I'm from Alabama. I grew up playing catch, drinking kool-aid, get some sun and let the dog run around the yard snd had hotwheels like most every other kid my generation. I played alot of games towards the end of highschool. My parents never tried to brainwash me to think anything racist. We always lived in apartments and such. I loved basketball. I was jacked up on Space Jam, Tony Hawk and Lion King. Nobody liked me in school anyway. Went to Michigan in 2015, got alot of work and actually started getting cars like I've always wanted. I've walked passed an '80 Trans Am everyday to and from school. Car hasn't ran in decades (still doesn't) so I got one off Craigslist in 2016 and was my first older car experience. And the rest is history for that scene. My stepdad's honda blew up and so did the grand cherokee so my older car was the only one that worked. This is my 3rd vehicle by 2016 and I didn't even have a license yet, so my stepdad dad drove it and brought me to work with my car and he went to work. Some guy at his job was asking him if he could ride in it, but my stepdad said he couldn't because it's not his car, so the guy went around calling my stepdad a racist at his job.
2 of the best there ,, we were just talking about smokey and the bandit we still have the canon ball run ,,, could do with investing in dukes of hazzard dvd box set
@Justin Blackface I personally am okay with diversity and multiculturalism in a private context. So long as that same culture recognizes their nation's culture first before their own. But you're right on authority and dictatorships. Authority should be performed by consent of the governed. Not by the threat of force. But most of them corporates in D.C. and state capitals across the country are becoming more thirsty for power. They are a government controlled by the elite. Not of the people.
All lifes matter no matter what enithisidy that is my input also i want to see this movie because I do not like modern earth i want to go to the 70' and 80' i was born early 2000
BLM also want white people banned so pretty hypocritical. BLM is just another KKK, but instead of weird ritual burnings it's as public as possible destroying police cars and restaurants
I'm black too and I watched this show since I was 8 years old and I still watch it now to this day and I got the DVD set and I tell you I'm a huge fan of the Dukes of Hazzard I love this show and you're right I don't really see why people make a big deal about the flag I mean some people think it's racist but it's a condolence flag
geewdanger no it simply was the battle flag for the Army of Northern Virginia. Designed in Fairfax Va. 1861 due to confused confederate soldiers rallying at the wrong flag At the Battle of first Manassas (or Bull Run depending on which side you support ). The Stars and Stripes (union) and Stars and Bars (Confederate national flag) were somewhat similar. Sadly it was used by the Klan as a rally flag and other racist groups.
I'm a Dine' (Navajo) I watched this show since was 5yrs old. And same time grew up with Hillbillies in Southwestern Colorado.... They always had that southern flag , which I didn't understand why peeps think of racist... When they see the flag. Me loved it cuz of Duke Boy's.... Thanks.
Im black born in the south me and my white friends we enjoyed that show! Good memories we had together we looked out for each other and the show wasnt racist cause of the flag on car!
The show promoted family and how to look out for one another, how to help a fellow citizen in need. I learned more about family and life values from this show then I did from my own family growing up. Hopefully we get past whatever nonsense they're forcing on us this time, stay safe out there my friend and God bless
It was the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia under General Robert E. Lee.The Confederate battle flag was never the official flag of the Confederacy. The civil war really had nothing to do with slavery anyway. Most of the black slaves in America, including the south were owned by blacks, ethnic Jews, Hispanics and "Natives". Whites had no reason to fight and die to free slaves that 98% of the population had nothing to do with. The war was more about preserving the union. The south did want to keep slavery though. But after the war we forced all of them, blacks and "natives" especially to free them. Black owners got insanely wealthy off enslaving their own people. But we don't talk about any of that. Wonder why.
@Kyle Rodriguez I agree, you're ignorant. Incapable of learning real history, believes the lies because it's easy. You're also a racist, a bigot, and given your name you're culturally appropriating my peoples language. I'm sorry you're so incapable of learning. Maybe some day you'll try. Until then, goodbye.
@@ianmurchie1567 : No, blame ignorant fools with zero intellect and those who are stupid enough to believe everything they hear, instead of fact-finding for themselves.
For anyone who says the show offended them because of the Rebel flag Here's a little piece of advice shut the hell up and turn the damn channel don't cancel a good show because of your own damn opinion
My son absolutely loved this show when he was about 7 years old. He would sit in my lap or beside me. Eating popcorn and coke. That was family time for us on Friday night. Memories, you cannot take away. Them Dukes. Loved all those schemes by Boss Hog, and his side kick. Rosco P. Coltrane.
There was never a racist moment on that show. Everybody grew up to it ,it is beaten into your heart! This is a big country you can have Southern Pride without being prejudiced.
For real right? I guess eveyone that displays the confederate flag must be in the same boat as those ignorant racist bigots. That go around and do horrible things to innocent people. I mean mental illness doent have anything to do with it? It hurts to see a part of my childhood in this show. Get attacked like this, if you know what I mean?
thank goodness i got to meet her n march at the donald e steven covention world of wheels n chicago even though she is 61 now and 25 when the show started
I'm 52 years old and this show has always been among my favorites. I bought all 7 seasons on DVD and my wife and I snuggle on our couch and watch it all of the time. It was a great tv show that had real family values and no racism. It you think that this show was racist, then you're probably a racist yourself.
It is not our generation that finds it racist; it is those who believe a militant response to the lack of affirmative action in every situation is appropriate. Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. professed peace and equality, while Malcom X responded with militant action if priority was not given to "his" people. Priority of one over another based mainly on a characteristic which has nothing to do with the task at hand is called affirmative action. Affirmative action leads to quotas. Quotas lead to a sense of entitlement, and that sense of entitlement is killing America, on thing at a time.
back then that flag was like a normal flag and everybody who own something either have rebel flag on it or a American flag that's what it was like back then. And this tv series shows us how to use it for good and not for bad. like I said before people kill people
notice the show clears out the flag and stated that it is a rebels flag and im black and im not offended I love the show, characters, chases and races also the general lee
Google the meaning of the Confederate flag. it bothered me hearing it meant racism. turns out it's a battle flag representing freedom. do your homework chum
@@kylebuschhasover200winsinn5 that's not the Confederate flag douche bag that's the battlefield flag.. There was 2 flags in the South during the Civil War.. Confederate flag and the battlefield flag look totally different..
The Confederate Battle Flag was never the official flag of the Confederate State's of America. The first was named The Stars and Bars. The second was named The Stainless Banner. Last was the third National Flag named The Blood Stained Banner. The Battle Flag was used on the field to distinguish between the two forces. The Battle Flag is not racist! Learn your history and think for yourself instead of believing what you've been told.
@@kylebuschhasover200winsinn5 Learn your flags dumb ass, it's the Battle Flag on top of the car, regardless of what the writers had the actors say in the show - It's not the Rebel or Confederate Flag, it's the 'Battle Flag of the Army of Tennessee'.
im mexican american and i don't feel that flag is racist, and i have no problem with white people feeling proud of that flag. everybody needs to be proud of the roots they come from so we can all come together as americans and make our country great. 🇺🇸
Uncle Jesse: What are you doing? Luke: Welding the doors shut. Jesse: What are ya doing that for? Luke: You weld the doors shut on racing cars for safety's sake. Jesse: How do you get in??? Bo: Climb through the windows. Jesse: (Puts his hands on his stomach) Count me out. 😂😂😂
logic vs convenience. lol, everyone got that uncle that ask that question that make you think about you doing something smart and dumb at the same time. Like why everyone wants to take selfies with a selfie stick when you could easily use a phone stand and use the timer to take a group shot.
Choked me up! Like being 8 years old again and seeing the General for the first time. What a GREAT way to spend my evenings as a boy... Daydreaming I was in Hazzard County with the Duke family
Also as a black man and the fact that this show has been taken off the air because some racist idiot wanted to use the confederate flag as a symbol of hate is a shame. It's heritage, not hate plain and simple In fact Id love to own a General Lee if I had the money and means to restore one
I'm blaack and I love this car since I was 10! didn't now was a racesit thing. The show never talked about it. as the actors says it's a good family show. the whole thing with the flag is in the past! lets focus on the future!
Jesse: what are you doin'? Luke: I'm welding the door shut Jesse: what are you doing that for? Luke: you weld the door on a racin' car for the driver's safety's sake Jesse: how do you get in? Bo: through the windows! Jesse: ... count me out Later on Jesse has been in and out of the General so many times lol
the 69 charger wasn't as valuable as it is today because of the general lee and after the dukes of hazzard the popularity of the car went outta control, love the general!
Thousands of black soldiers fought FOR the Confederacy. Thousands of black soldiers CARRIED that flag onto the battlefields. Thousands of black soldiers DIED defending that flag. Isn"t it disrespectful to them to NOT fly it ? I think so.
Rubens Junior The main reason for the civil war was NOT over slavery, and you are just as brainwashed on that topic as everyone else coming out of American public school system. From the start, Good old Ab Lincoln believed in preserving the slaves in south if it could preserve the union. The main reason was unfair taxes on shipments of goods to the UK after the war of 1812. After that war the United States placed heavy taxes on exports to that country in an effort to complete severe any ties with Great Britain. Since Cotton and Tobacco were major exports to UK, they became the south's only source of revenue. The British refused to purchase those goods at such a major price. Scared the business in the south would go broke, the southern states argued with the U.S. Government to reduce the tax on exports for which the Government refused. Fearing the States HAD NO RIGHTS to choose their own exports and to whom to export to, they threatened to seceded from the union. Its wasn't about slavery. It was about MONEY! MONEY MONEY MONEY drives everything. The slave issue was inter-woven into the whole mess.
Birth of a Legend. It's a great show, a classic show, a good-hearted show, a fun show. Sad to see the show under threat again in 2020 because people are upset because of what the Flag means to them that day- It may just be light entertainment but it's still Art & Art shouldn't be censored. it's the intention of the Artists that counts not the interpretation of an audience member or viewer.
The confederate flag is not racist, the only racists are white liberals stirring people up to keep everyone fighting with each other while they steal all the money. My home town high school mascot is a confederate soldier, it has never represented slavery. It was the battle flag for the civil war, those in office today are desperate for measures of race hatrid that they will attack everything
Its a REBEL flag on a car of 2 good ole boys fighting the system never meaning harm. Never had anything to do with racism. I grew up around the rebel flag you might say, not really the flag itself but the symbol was on caps, tee shirts, license plates and whatever else it could be stuck on. Usually with some sort of Dixie logo, proud to be from the south, i remember one tee shirt said Southern by the grace of God. We all considered ourselves little daredevils mean and rebellious but never once do i remember any sort of hate toward anyone because of their race.
"50 years ago, owners manuals included instructions on how to adjust the valves. Today, they warns against drinking the contents of the battery." - Unknown
@@Ziggy_Moonglow I remember hearing that somewhere. I understand the removing of adjusting the values and other stuff like that because cars are more reliable, but the fact that people need to be told not to drink battery acid is worrying to say the least
The dukes of Hazzard the show was about making it anyway they know how. That didn't stop the Duke family from staying together loving and respecting one another and caring for others.
Love this show now, just as much as I did back then. This show is the reason I've owned 3 Chargers and plan on owning many more! Currently have the Go Mango color just like the General Lee! Just need the horn now!
sometimes a general lee will pop up for 25-40k, i hope as the year goes by less and less people want a car they have to work on and tune up so the general gets a bit cheaper
ikr i watched it when it started n 1979 all the way till it ended thank goodness at least they made the dvd reruns i thabkgoodness i still have all 7 seasons on dvd
I don't miss the show one bit.. it gets played every week at my house especially on the weekends.. got the full set on DVD.. when they wear out I'll start on the other set of dvds.
The first 5 episodes from season 1 where filmed in Covington Georgia and the surrounding areas. (also some places in Atlanta) From episode 6 to the last season the Dukes was filmed in Warner Brothers studio in Hollywood LA
Those were the days when television was television, my favorite friday night lineup on CBS, Incredible Hulk followed by Dukes of Hazzard and I only watched this to see Daisy Duke and then this was followed by of course Dallas.
Over the past few years I’ve tossed the idea of building my 69 Charger into a General Lee .... after all the dust settled from the liberal biased media , im more proud of that car than I’ve ever been ... it’s getting built 👍
The 68 was just a tad bit better. The wide open grill without the center divider and those dual round taillights that were inspired by rocket nozzles. The rest is the same.
Poor general Lee after what happened in Charleston now the whole country wants to remove the Confederate flag meaning that this would be the last time everybody will see the general Lee on the road again
Probably because that isn't the Confederate Flag. The Confederate flag came in three forms, Stars and Bars, Stainless, and Blood Stained. The Lee has roughly the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia.
Aw come on guys cant we just for a little while put all this stuff to the side and just appreciate so good old fashion AMERICAN hotrod muscle? WOW 69 dodge charger ! I love that car even though i am a big time chevy guy . just cant hardly beat the old general lee . gotta love the late seventies and early eighties. O and just got to mention Waylon Jennings rest in piece brother. Donnie .
GM, all the way, Chevy of course, I love all American muscle cars, i love my 99 GMC Sierra, its a little better quality than Chevy, don't get me wrong I'm still General Motors enthusiast. Question? How do you make a Ford run? Throw a Chevy engine in it! Ha!! I'm sure all motorheads know a lot of jokes, also I rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford!
Backstory: the 69 Charger was a getaway vehicle for two man and women bank robbers They stole 50k worth of gold dust The robbers got away and hid the gold in between the dashboard and the firewall of the charger The dukes needed a car to put a engine in so uncle Jesse took out a loan to be able to afford the Chassis for boss Hogg’s race A cop sees the robbers and chases the robbers making them crash and destroy the car The charger was sent to a junk yard and the robbers were arrested with the gold still in the dash The dukes went to the junkyard, bought it, fixed it up, put the engine in In it and then painted it making it the general lee The robbers escaped from prison and went looking for the Charger which still had the gold dust The robbers chased bo and Luke up until the race where they ran them off them off the road destroyed their car and left them unable to chase them anymore Then Luke found the gold dust in between the dash They ended up winning the race and reporting the gold to the police and the robbers were arrested
