So, you may have seen the recent posting of Larry Semon's DULL CARE by the wonderfully generous Cineteca Milano. However, on watching their print I started to think there was lots missing, so I went back to my dungeon and unearthed another version and started to compare and stick it back together again. And then after I posted it, I found some MORE footage! Phew. (It did become more than I bargained for!)
But at least it's now grown from 10 mins to 19.30 mins (and that's at a fair lick too!) You'll get breathless watching it. Sorry for the unavoidable change of quality now and again, but at least you can see how much work I got myself into!
This is one of the earlier 2 reel mega-productions by Larry and features Lucille Carlisle, Frank Alexander, Oliver Hardy and ex-Sennett player and ace stuntman Bill Hauber as the chief crook.

Larry Semon was a very popular screen comedian in the 1910's and 20's. He was the star of MGM's first adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz" in 1925, alongside Oliver Hardy. But like many in that era, he did not make the transition to sound. Note this is a Vitagraph picture, the forerunner of Warner Brothers.

Larry Semon. I realized there are a lot of silent actors I didn't know. I thought this is a nice work of recovery and reconstruction. Amazing.

Fantastic job of reconstruction, Dave. This short is a hoot - as are all of Semon's early shorts. This is the earliest depiction I have seen of the gag of releasing gas from a vehicle and then lighting a match to the stream of gasoline.

If you recalled the gas gag was used for the climax to Die Hard II. But mostly it lived forever in Hollywood cartoons. Larry Semon should be considered a poster child for that industry.

I wish! Somewhere on the planet, I'm sure the master tapes are lurking.... but they're not available as far as I'm aware. If anyone else knows different... please shout!

Thank You very much for putting it here, love Larry Semon. Love also the music of Malcom Mitchell(mostly the chase music at the end, its the best chase-music ever written for silent comedy!), its the same they used on Mad Movies with Bob Monkhouse.
