Lets see here. You're 21. Geddy was 58 during that performance. So you have 37 years of practice in front of you, to get to that skill level. I won't live to see you demonstrate your skills at that age, but I'm rooting for you to at least come close.
And for many of us, who are 58 now, that ship has sailed. But it in no way reacts from the enjoyment of listening to absolute masters of their craft. Rock on! 🤘
One of the best instrumental tracks of all time - just freaking phenomenal! Geddy is just next level on bass, but Alex & Neil are killing it as well. I’m thankful to have seen them play live a couple of times - great memories. Long live Rush! ❤🤘🤘🤘
You mentioned Tool. Tool was inspired by Rush and that is why you picked up on the instrumental concept that tool has used. In fact Danny Carey has said that Neil Peart from Rush was one of his biggest influences. Tool has covered some Rush songs in tribute after Neil passed away and Danny Carey stepped in to play the drums for Rush at the Taylor Harris Hawkins tribute concert.
Back in 76, my friends thought I was the weirdest friend they had when I told them I was a was fan, they were listening to Kiss,Rolling Stones, and the error of Disco music..my go music was Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and a new band out of Canada called, Rush..I was 11yrs old, and I followed them all the up to 2015..still, in my opinion, the greatest band ever
Dude our lives paralleled !!! I first saw them in 75 when I was 13 an saw them every yr into my late twenties… I’m still in awe of the bands I’ve seen live, some of the all time greatest an none ever compared too a Rush concert… their ability too recreate their music live was insane an they were the BEST
I went to dozens of RUSH shows through the years and let me tell you it’s amazing watching Geddy Lee standing right in front of him in the second row. All 3 members were masters at their respective instruments. Put those 3 masters together and you get the best band in the world. Great reaction. More RUSH! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Before "Leave that thing alone", they had another instrumental called "Where's my thing?" Check it out by finding.... Where s My Thing?/ Here It Is! (drum solo) - Live in Dallas
Plenty of drama, things most families go through. The lose of Neil is just an example, they all knew his diagnosis but carried on to fulfill what they all thought was important. That is only one example but they chose not to harp on that. Great artists, best friends and I would add caring humans to the top of the list.
@@Scottracine68 The loss of Neil's daughter and wife within one year was certainly "drama", but that's life happening. I think the "drama" is publicly airing disagreements within the band, and not being diplomatic about it.
I was fortunate enough to see Rush twice once in the early 80s at Madison Square Garden and then in the 90s. I always say that Rush only having three guys in the band had such a bombastic sound! If you think they sound good through your headphones or watching the videos oh my God they sound 100 times better live. Geddy, Alex and Neil R.I.P. 😔 will always be awesome. People will talk about the music I grew up with and the artist that I grew up with 400 years from now. I was blessed to have been part of a generation of the 60s 70s and 80s music. We will never experienced anything this fabulous ever again.✌🏻😎
I agree with you Dame!! I'm jealous and I'm old enough to remember Rush from back in the day!! In this video, the band members were pushing 60 years old!!
So nice to see today’s youth enjoying Rush, still. How many generations? My first show was in 1978 in the Warehouse in New Orleans. They were young but still made a hell of an impression on this once kid. My last show was on my 53rd b-day at the much more comfortable New Orleans Arena on May 22, 2015. That was live show #129 for me…. and I still enjoy the R40 dvd to this day!
Listen to their entire catalog. the best 3pc. band in history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you ever watch the Rush movies like Exit Stage Left, they interview other musicians that both toured with Rush or were influenced by Rush like the band Tool. Great movie to give you major history about the band and some insight on their own influences. Great band and this was a great review
You got it honey! Rush is an experience, Rush is a feeling, don’t be lookin’ for something to catch, instead just enjoy the journey they take you on. Progressive rock will change ya ;)
Again, though, you owe it to yourself to listen to these albums. They were meant to be consumed as albums, and these songs are even better in that structure.
Great reaction! Don’t be jealous… be inspired!! That’s what they did! You know that they are all self taught from Jr high and 40 ye later, Geddy was on the stage playing with one for his idol…Chris Squire! You get to work!! Lol! Be well and God bless… from Texas!!
I am not ranking people but Flea and Bootsy Collins are also on my bassist list. My dad played bass. Mom said I was kicking along to Smoke on the Water when she was very pregnant 😅
Since you are digging rush, here’s another great bass player to check out: Dirty Loops. Start with Work Shit Out, then Follow the Light for a rather unique bass solo. From there it’s a deep rabbit hole…
Sub from me. I'm 37 now and when I was 21, I had the same thoughts. I was lucky enough to see them 5 times live. Best 5 concerts I've ever been to, and I just hit Tool this month. Tool was crazy good, but they got nothing on Rush. Keep going down the Rush rabbit hole, and I'll keep coming back.
Rush lays down extremely complex sht that sounds good the first time.. then it just grows... pure talent no matter: undeniably singular and of the highest passion & talent
I don’t know if you’ve checked out the band Yes yet, but Chris Squire is another bassist you should listen to. He’s a big influence on Geddy. The song Roundabout will have you hooked. Cheers!
Saw them 6 times starting in 1975. Greatest power trio of all-time they were special Geddy and Alex grew up together when they grabbed Neil to replace their original drummer John Rutsey RIP, after the first album, they never looked back. I started on bass at 15 switched to keyboards then settled on guitar the last 25 years never reached their level but had fun in bands along the way. I'm retired now at 64 but I still play everyday, and not a day goes by that I don't still listen to this band. You are still young just go for it be passionate about something and it will always be worth it.✌👍🎹🎵🎸🎼
Well, you are listening to a band that has arguably the greatest rock drummer of all time. And the band that has arguably one of the greatest bass players of all time. Go to any top 10 list in each category, and they’re both on it. Alex is phenomenal in his own right, he’s just a different breed.
It's called " Leave that Thing Alone " from 1993's Counterparts album. Cut to the Chase is another fantastic track off the same album ( but then Rush has never delivered a bum track )
