My best guess for the "see you in the next hell losers" dialogue is, yes, it was meant to be said by lancer. I imagine this was implemented at a time when toby did not have a typer sound he was set on for Lancer, so he just used Toriel's.
If im not mistaken toriel's dialogue sound is actually the first one you hear in the entire game, therefore making it possible it was the very first one added during development, so since this dialogue didnt have one, it defaults to the first
The idea of Lancer straight up saying that Kris and Susie would go to hell makes me chuckle, its just so distinctly out of character yet also seems like something he'd sadly pick up from his good ol' dad.

@@benthebuilder7983 That does make a lot of sense. She could be referring to the dark world as a Hell since she fell into it & "next" could be referring to a hypothetical other dark world, literal Hell, or the light world since she clearly hasn't been happy there.
I'm very curious on how Ralsei's character will progressively change throughout the chapters. Still a very mysterious character even when we can see his face now.
I'm willing to bet Ralsei becomes a Final Boss in one potential route, for which one I don't know, and neither of the circumstances surrounding the fight. I just think It's probably going to happ3n

Toriel's technically the first non mysterious voice you hear so maybe it was the prime choice for a placeholder for the fight. That and her name being "torial".
Allusions to Ralsei being the prince of Hell are probably intentional considering people sometimes call Satan the prince of darkness (dark prince) & there were some major Satan motifs going on with Asgore in Undertale considering he was a goat man who ruled monsters, he waged a war against humans because he & his people were angry about being trapped underground, he uses fire magic & wields a trident (very similar to a pitchfork), his son was compared to (and named after) an angel of death, & his other kid called themself a "demon that comes when you call its name." Ever heard the expression "Speak of the devil & he shall appear."?
It's not just Ralsei, Kris and Susie are also named as "Lightbringer" and "Beast" respectively in Chapter 1. Susie might even be a dragon monster -- dragon being another term by which Satan is referred to in the Bible. The entire party is from Hell.
@@vik.o1598 is it though? While yes, most of the worlds (except for castle town) are a threat to the balance of light and dark, the worlds themselves are nowhere near hellish or painful, filled mostly with kind people who are not really that malicious.
Just as a sidenote: Toby starting out by programming two enemies into the dummy fight but then gradually adding more and more little things to the fight and having to settle with one enemy in the end because of the ammount of things he added spiraling out of control *is incredibly relatable*

Pretty sure in Undertale it's implied that the battle UI is actually diegetic in universe. In the Papyrus date, Papyrus directly mentions the fight ui. I don't think this being the same in deltarune is completely out of the question.

I hope a rematch with the dummy becomes available in the dojo at some point, where Ralsei makes a show of "being evil" while teaching Kris and Susie (or someone else) to work better at the same time. In all honesty, just fighting the dummy as Susie would potentially be hilarious.

The fact that Ralsei *blushes* when you hit him and says its fine if you want to is both very interesting but also makes me VERY afraid of potential Weird Route shenanigans. Ch2 Weird Route already had big abusive relationship vibes, and theres a point to be made that you could interpret it as not just taking advantage of Noelles inability to assert herself, but also of her like of "scary" things and the very obvious hints of masochism she lets slip at times. If we assume that the dummied out dialogue is still in character for him, Ralsei ALSO potentially exhibiting some degree of either masochism or at least a willingness to let us do that to him does not bode well for the future.
ralsei i don't think is exactly a masochist but to me it gives me more a feeling of "doing anything to please someone" which is also a trait of sociopathic manipulators but ssshhh

Tbh, blushing at being hit does not strike me as either a sign of "Sociopathy" OR "Manipulation". Even if we make the jump and assume that Ralsei is "sociopathic", it isnt necessary malicious. Extreme people pleasing, including when its linked to cluster B personality disorders like ASPD, is often less a deliberate attempt at manipulation and more often out of deep abondonement fears, dependency, or a deliberate effort not to hurt people that ends in self-destructive overcompensation, depending on what symptoms you are dealing with.

I think it's interesting that it's specified that the heart is the culmination of a human's being... since as far as we know at this point we [the player] are the only heart and also... by that logic the only human. Still I can see why it was changed, can't wait to see what lore we get with new chapters~
I know it’s suspicious how hard Ralsei seems to lean on the fourth wall, what with being able to see the UI. But I think for a tutorial it makes sense for him to act that way. We wouldn’t question it in other games like Super Mario RPG for example, when Toad literally stops time to let us know when to hit the button for timed hits.
in most other games its just a joke in undertale being able to save itself is a super power you are acknoledged of having and is only known about by very important characters.

I think it Toby Fox's universe seeing the UI is pretty normal. In the date sequence in Undertale, Papyrus mentions the battle ui directly, so I wouldn't set a wrong light on Ralsei for that.
Honestly, looking at all the stuff that is here, I wouldn't be suprised if fighting Ralsei as a thing later down the line simply because the enemy assets are already there (mostly). Although it's funny mental picture, to think you could essentially Recruit Ralsei to his own Castle Town if that mechanic actually worked. I wouldn't be surprised if it sent him to his room like a naughty kid or something.
“You know rectangles? They’re like messed-up squares?” Ralsei gave me some serious Flowey vibes when you kept missing the rectangle. When dodging the “Friendliness Pellets": “Hey buddy, you missed them. Let’s try again, okay?” “Is this a joke? Are you braindead? RUN. INTO. THE. BULLETS!!!”
If "See you in the next hell" was originally Lancer's line, it makes me imagine he learned about Hell from Jevil. This isn't speculation, I just like the idea of Lancer interacting with Jevil It's probably just that Lancer was originally a bit edgier of a character
Assuming the game is as it seems: people imagining a better/more fun world for themselves (via play, or game building, or religion etc.), then that reality starts actually coming to life and affecting the real world, with the Ice-E cryptid and Dess and Kris’s following shutdown to prevent it happening again; the ideas of the multiple layers of hell really works. And on a meta level too (by which I don’t mean Dante). The imaginings of one world leading to another, and another, deeper and deeper, darker yet darker, until the real world will become subsumed entirely. If we think about how Undertale wasn’t actually the start for Toby, but Deltarune, this was essentially the problem he was having - iterations of his imaginative world that now hinged on others etc. And of course that also works very well with the fan-verses, continuously iterating down and down. Hence a story probably saying there is a balance, don’t push away creativity entirely, but don’t fall too far down inside your own mind, or else heaven becomes hell, and what a deep hell that could be with no coming back to reality.
I’m like, 50% sure the “see you in the next hell losers” dialogue is Toby poking fun at dataminers and/or being frustrated at the programming stuff and not ending up replacing the placeholder text for that specific scenario after scrapping it
i can't help but notice that ralsei describes the red soul as "*a* soul", not "*your* soul". isn't that different than the version that's actually used? it's suspicious either way, though
man at first it seemed like missing/attacking Ralsei (not considered the dummy) showed how it was as if he was intentionally avoiding getting hit, like it would cause something bad to happen then he's like "i meaaaan i'm not saying i'm not enjoying it"
Is toriel's voice indexed as the first one? I imagine there was supposed to be a speech bubble for ralsei, so he just copied lancers bubble code and text. Then, toriel's voice might be the first one we hear in game so that could explain that weird bit
no, that's not quite how it works. each textbox in and out of battle sets a typer value to one of the ones defined in scr_texttype, which toriel's is 7th. the one that is the default is 4, which uses the mainbig font and snd_text speech sound. or atleast that's how i think it works since i have no idea how gamemaker's scripting language works. at all. i know like a little bit of it and also that it's weird. a bit offtopic, i want to buy a copy of gms just to understand why are the scripts written the way they are. probably won't though.
Personally I honestly think Ralsei is.... Asgore. I honestly think Ralsei is Asgore as a child. We saw that Noelle temporarily turned into a younger version of herself in the Dark World. It really seems like the Dark World matches one's mental state to their form. And I could see Asgore just wanting to go on adventures with his estranged adopted kid, and teach them good morals along the way. My other reasons for believing this: -Ralsei's outfit is an archetypical "black mage" getup, and while Ralsei doesn't use offensive magic like fire, Asgore does. -Ralsei is worried about revealing his face. Luckily no one seems to recognize him. -Asgore's reputation as "king fluffybuns" precedes him. He is absolutely a fluffy boy who loves hugs. -The server room in the librarby specifically says you could fit a "large person" inside. I feel like that was specified to explain how Asgore could be in close proximity to the gang during Chapter 2. Other than that, I really feel like it's a non shitty twist to find out Ralsei is just your goddamn dad. No one seems to like Asgore. But we barely got to know him as anything other than Toriel's eggs husband. Maybe now we can.
So interesting thing about Ralsei’s dialogue when Kris gets hit and asks if he threw too many projectiles and then only throws one That dialogue is an odd parallel to a part of the Snatcher Boss Fight from the game “A Hat In Time” where he throws a bunch of potions at you and then asks if that’s too many then just throws one at you. (But it’s a homing potion) That strikes me as odd since Snatcher is ALSO the quirky ruler of a Dark Realm who pretends to be your pal in a game full of fun quirky characters

But "FIN" is also "the end" in Spanish 😅 It starts from the end, like a broken record 👀 Interesting takes on the dummy fight. I think too that it was possible that Ralsei would've been also in that battle tutorial for the bullet dodging, but perhaps it was too glitchy or Toby preferred to turn it into a more streamlined tutorial for fans to breeze quickly or whatever else they would datamine to fuel their theories.

Personally, I think the unused flee dialogue being said when Kris is HUGGING Ralsei/the dummy is a hilarious juxtaposition, considering how crass &/or uncouth it is. Like, Ralsei, or even a supposedly inanimate dummy, responding to Kris hugging them with, in Toriel's voice, "See you in the next Hell, losers!" (When Kris is alone, no less.) & then leaving is hilarious. XD

I always thought it was implied that he at least had one at some point. Pretty sure Spamton's never been human. I think it just means that colored heart shaped objects are human souls, monsters have white upside down hearts and darkners might have something else, where did you get the spamton having a soul part? Not trying to debunk anything, just asking.

Seeing this has made me sad as reading the comments I realized Ralsei's Kingdom can't stand. Darkners want to be used, but being in a closet rotting away? If Ralsei is willing to tolerate so much aggression from Kris and others just to not be alone... what happens when Kris and Susie no longer need Ralsei? It makes me sad. We can't just hide everything in town in the school closet for 1,000 years.
I just realized something: you know kris's regular party: kris, susie and ralsei. Their initials are K R S what if there is a 4th member that will join, who's name starts with I? Then the party's initials would be K R I S !!
I think of the 7 hells from A Song of Ice and Fire or the 9 hells of Dante's Inferno when I see "See you in the next hell." It's also interesting to note the 7 chapters planned and the updated dialogue for chapter 2.
Toby Fox knows that people go through the files relentlessly. I think it's just easy to accept them as Easter eggs that may or may not mean something in the future. Speculation is very fun though
5:12 haveing the dark worlds linked to hells would make scence on more than one level as there are 7 layers of hell 7 deadly sins and 7 chapers of deltarune honestly it wouldn't suprise me if each character linked to one of the layers or sins and honestly if they did that would be an awsome way to structure the game.
I doubt this has anything to do with the actual story of the game and is probably related to the fact that kris was probably religious considering he went to church with his older brother
