I can understand throwing things away that are broken or out of date but to deliberately destroy things so they cannot be used is disgusting. There should be more people like you and maybe our landfills won't be so full.

im surprised more people don't know this but they have to do this because if there is a fault with the electrical appliance the company throwing it away could still be held liable for any damages etc this may cause, even if its from someone scrounging the bins. so if you're throwing electrical good away they have to be in a state that cant be used

Those bags of sugar: sugar usually never goes bad unless it gets wet and molds over. Remember sugar was used as a presrvative the same way as salt.

I’m a children’s nurse and most children’s wards in local hospitals still use DVD’s. It’s so sad to see they were all thrown away

Granulated sugar really never expires honestly. Its good for two years after the date & you can soften it by placing a piece of bread in the package overnight it will soften. You can do this w white & brown sugar. So there ya go! P.S. they also have these clay things they sell online to make sugar soft. As someone who lived in South Africa for most of my life, seeing stuff like this getting thrown out is very frustrating, especially as most things in SA will go on to have a second life, or be used as spares. The UK is a very wasteful nation unfortunately.

Right?? Reminds me of this one time a cafe was bagging up sandwiches and pastries to throw away that were perfectly good to eat. I asked if they were good to eat and if i could take the food and give it out to the homeless, surprisingly they said yes and that they were okay to eat. So i spent a few hours doing that with two friends. Didn’t film it either for “internet points” like most would, just wanted to do something good for people in need

sugar lasts indefinitely if you keep it away from moisture and heat. It is highly resistant to microbial growth...so all probably ok.

Bin doin this since I was about 12, I've just gone 37 an I'm still doin it! These companies are a fuckin disgrace truth be told but I ain't complainin! Ha had some right stuff out the skips/bins but I do it just after closin time 👍

Outrageous the amount of quality stuff they are throwing away. At worst those kids' DVDs could be given to a child's hospital or something. Why are we recycling as much as we do when these companies behave in this manner?

the dvds are worthless. just go walk around charity shops and they have loads, same with car boot sales. the last one i was at i picked up the alien trilogy and LOTR extended for like £2 and they are basically brand new

Just like records/ vinyl's those cd'sand dvds will again be another thing to come back in and so will tapes (theres still cars and people who use them, so they were a great find. Plus like someone said earlier hospitals still use dvds, i know i would never get rid of my cd's and tapes, my video tapes and dvds, they cost me money back in the day and will become expensive when they come back into the "items to have", so thus if i were to sell them i would my money back and some! 'One man's/person's trash is another man's treasure' as the saying goes and which has already been quoted in the comments. That mirror in the Dunelm bin the one with the grey frame which even you said was ' a good frame' you should have taken the frame, you could have left the broken mirror in the bin 😂😂 the frame i am positive someone would have been able to use it for something, after all there's alot of people just using the frames themselves to design feature walls etc which is called "art" these days 😂😊 as is walls of "records/dvd's and even video games (the disc's obviously). I found a tonne of dvds in a charity shop dumster a few years ago. Funny thing was i took them from the bin to CEX directly opposite and made £30 which i took back to the charity shop 🤦 not sure why companies feel they can do this, especially charity shops! 😤

With CDs - is it not worth taking all and pushing them through Ziffit or Magpie. Although not great value it would all build up over time as you are finding so many .

Cute elephant. One little child in a orphanage would have held on to that til they leave the orphanage at age 18. That will be their most precious posession that they will keep for the rest of their life because that is the only thing that are theirs and theirs alone. Try it some time. It is the most gratifying feeling you will ever have in your life. I LOVE HOW YOU SAVE THESE THINGS FROM THE DUMPSTER.

I guess companies don't donate their 'waste' because they are afraid of being sued by people, if they give it away, for any problems caused by it but its horrifying to see how much is wasted that could go to charities or still be used. Such a shame. Glad you were able to find some things and prevent waste
