Peter Duncan attempts to complete the Royal Marines 30 Miler with 184 Troop 1984. For the sharp eyed amongst you, you will see a very, VERY young Gordon Messenger in here
I was told they gave them the nickname manstoppers in Ireland because they would just shoot the fuckers through the brick wall instead of shooting them through the window
@@teddy1066 That's why the RN had a bunch with gubbins and barrel sleeve to fire .22 on the indoor range before letting people loose with the full-power variety outside.
I remember watching this when I was a child, this was what inspired me to join, passed out did 7yrs left in 2004..... Wish id stayed in sometimes, I'd be retiring this year...
I had a mate joined the Paras. I remember on leave he showed me this stealth technique. Not a sound. I was a dead man! Did you learn similar tactics as Marines?
I know some blokes hate it when people say this but; the blokes back then, especially the recruits, had so much more about them. They just look that much more physically and mentally robust.
The main problems with the new in take is there feet a life in crap sports shoes has done nothing but provide a complete set of foot problems add that to a very piss poor mental state of self important little me and that is the new standard and the military is so political correctness driven as to be a complete bloody joke
@SuperVHSchannel Utter nonsense. Standards have been falling across the board in HM Forces for 30+ years. It's got everything to do with our weak, soft society which sees children molly coddled and spending far too much time glued to a Playstation, as opposed to playing outside in groups- which was how children learnt to mix, communicate and fit in with their peers. I saw a decline in standards with my own eyes- declining fitness levels, lack of mental resilience, an inability to subjugate themselves for the greater good- the Individual Cult- Me, myself and I etc. Pastor Flaps is absolutely correct in his observations. Nor are the falling standards the fault of 80's personnel. An Army is only as good as the society it recruits from- our society is weak, decadent, hedonistic, lacking in discipline- and it is producing individuals, who for the most part, lack vigour. If you don't believe that there has been a decline in recruit standards, just watch one of the 1980's BBC documentaries on the Royal Marines, and compare it with the much more recent series from 2-3 years ago which was on Channel 5. The latter series showed recruits fidgeting, smirking and generally behaving like twats during a room inspection. One 30 year old recruit broke wind loudly- totally disrespectful towards the inspecting NCO. He earned himself 50 press-ups for behaving like a cock end. This behaviour is symptomatic of the lack of discipline which is so prevalent in British society now. The forces have been 'polishing shit' for quite a few years now. There are people serving today, who wouldn't have made it through Basic Training back in the 70's and 80's.
@SuperVHSchannel Their standards should be better, since humans are still evolving. That's why world records such as the three minute mile keep getting broken.
Speed marching… run down hill and on the flat. On the up hill… run that as well. 🤣 BTW in the commando phase, once you get your cap comforter… you are not allowed to walk anywhere… so you run everywhere.
Bugger i was 180.. that was scouse Carr shouting at the start on the mud ... claim to fame 84mm on corvette.... also old Captain Morgan 40Cdo C Coy. Andy, Ches, Jock.. lots of faces.
Had one go through my bottom lip on my 17th birthday whilst doing live firing CQB lane on Dartmoor . Medic stitched it up, sat under a dry stone wall in the pissing rain, using what felt like a mooring line for HMS Ark Royal !!! No anaesphetic ! 292 Troop 1985
Best rifle ever made and there were loads made under license by various companies best on semi auto and you had to be Hercules to fire on full auto as muzzle climb was harsh but single shot whatever you hit stopped dead in its tracks that coupled with extreme accuracy made a great medium range sniper and assault rifle.
Rubbish. It was the rifle that suited, for its time. It was heavy and inadequate. The sighting system was basic, to put it politely. As much as the SA8O has had its problems, it is a damn sight more easy to hit targets with than the SLR, for the average 18 years old squaddie, and that's what counts. A hit with 5.56, with 4xmag Susat sight is a hit. A miss with a 7.62 with iron sights is a miss, although it works better on parade, I'll agree.
Was the red and yellow card actually a thing. I've never seen it, only heard of it from other people who have heard other people talking about it. Isn't it bollocks?
I joined the mob in 85 and my first ship was hms intrepid. Full of bootnecks and as a 17 year old bosuns mate, it was no joke entering the mess ( barracks) of the marines with a shake book on channel night morning. But compared until back then the recruits are different. We were out playing football ect. They are all playing football online or being told their mental health is poor. Soft as white most of them now. Even the navy I joined is no longer the same.
Dam those recruits were tough back then. See how tired they all look back in the briefing room but still switched on. Watched one of the modern commando documentaries recently and one of the recruits was farting during inspection and answering back to the instructors. No comparison really.
That series is a crock of shite, channel 4 had dumbed it down massively for recruitment purposes as there’s been a shortfall of men in recent years due to various reasons There is a new one I believe on bbc1
Would have done himself a massive favour if he's given himself a number 2 before pitching up. There was no way they were going to let Joe civvie pass the final commando test with no trg.
Your obviously very young, the sound of the SLR cocking leavers and breech blocks clicking brought back memories at the unload pit a few lads had ND’s 🤣
@@purtlemoirrey1161 Best place to have an ND, one lad in another platoon put it straight through the range wardens heel and didn't get charged as the range warden stepped in front of the firing line, good times lol!
